Hoff Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I am curious to see what the preference is, although I'd rather NOT have people changing because of the polls. I like that everyone brings something different to the table. But I am curious as to the outcome and the reason. I think if used effectively, spaced-out counts bring a lot. You can't make it JUST for the finish, or it's predictable, but if you tease them at the end, it gives a feel that anyone can win.
King Cucaracha Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Spaced out counts for me. I'm guilty of it more than most, especially over in the WF. In the right situations though, i.e big matches and PPV. It kinda takes away from the appeal if you use long-drawn out counts in jobber squashes and the like.
Phoenix Fury Legdrop Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I'll use them in big feud matches, but I hate seeing them in every match; some get almost parody-like sometimes.
Hank Kingsley Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I typically just use two or three spaces in between each count, near fall or not. 34 spaces is just ridiculous, and it's almost as bad when someone decides to add "2 1/4! 2 1/2! 2 3/4! 2.999999999999! Three! No! Kickout!" Conversely, I see nothing wrong with the way PFL writes his near-falls, because really, we *are* talking about text wrestling matches. When I read a match and see a spaced-out near fall, I don't say "OH MY GOD! THERE'S THREE! ..oh, wait, nevermind. Damn, this is intriguing!" Whatever's there is there.
Zack Malibu Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I've always tended to space them. I just think it reads better that way, although for quick kickouts I've used normal text or not even counted the fall (ex: Malibu goes for the pin...but Sly kicks out at one!).

Mystery Eskimo Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 When I read a match and see a spaced-out near fall, I don't say "OH MY GOD! THERE'S THREE! ..oh, wait, nevermind. Damn, this is intriguing!" Whatever's there is there. Really? I kinda buy some of them. I must be extra gullible I think spacings are a big part of matches, but the really big gaps should be saved till its clear the end of the match is imminent. I've seen some matches where they're thrown out in the first few paragraphs, which is obviously silly.
