Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 5, 2004 What do you need in order to DL from one of these torrent sites? Do you have to download a program/server similer to Kazaa and Soulseek? Everytime people talk about torrent and give links it's just pages full of files, but I can't figure out how you actually download said files.

Yes, you do need a special client to download from BT sites. http://www.download.com/BitTorrent/3000-21...tml?tag=lst-0-1 That's a good one. What you do is you save the link to your harddrive 'Save Target As' and then double click it in whatever folder you downloaded it in. Then the client should pop up and start downloading it. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 7, 2004 Alright, thanks alot That's exactly what I needed. Someone saying "here, download this" and then giving a simple explanation of dowloading.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2004 BT's slightly different from P2P services like Kazaa. It's more like eMule (you download in parts, from lots of people)..but a hell of a lot less crappy. There isn't any central server or anything, just the tracker. (usually wherever the torrent file's uploaded to, which connects you to everybody else) The good thing is that it's capable of some VERY good speeds. The bad thing is that there are a bunch of leechers, who don't stay around and help everyone else get complete files. All you really need is the torrent client (I use Azureus myself), and a site to download from. Hope it helps.
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 I don't know if anyone else has come accross this problem, but using Suprnova, most albums available seem to go via 'warezcorps.com' and have the rar files passworded. I try to get the pass' from the warezcorps site, but 1 ) can't find myself to register and 2) can't read to register. It's quite annoying, i don't suppose there's just a general password for everything..? - Also a request for someone to maybe try and register there.
Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2004 emule doesn't depend on servers anymore either. IMO it's the best client to use if you want to have access to all kinds of movies/shows/games/porn etc. for a long time. Most Torrent trackers only serve their files for a few days and then they're gone. BT is great to get new files really fast, but if you're often searching for stuff that's a bit older or not exactly mainstream eMule is still the better alternative. The best way is to use both, of course.

Guest The Gecko Report post Posted January 6, 2005 My Shareaza is getting shitty speeds for BTs. Any suggestions to help improve this. I have a new computer and its a pretty damn good one and I also have cable internet, so I don't think thats the problem.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 15, 2005 I'm curious about something relating to bittorrent. I love the Don Vitorrent site put up earlier in this thread, but I noticed that there's categories in these BT sites for video games. How exactly does that work if say I download an Xbox game, do I just burn that to a CD/DVD or what? Or is it similar to the ROM/emulator thing you see often with the older systems?
Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2005 You download the XBOX DVD-ISOs via BitTorrent and then either burn them on a DVD-R or transfer it to your XBOX Hard Drive via FTP. All of that only works with a modded XBOX*, of course. * http://www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php

Eclipse 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2005 I just got into the torrent thing, since I have DSL now. My friend told me he uses that, and it's pretty awesome. He told me to download BitTornado, and also to go to the site he uses, TorrentSpy.com Man, the downloads are slow, and I don't get how this works. Can anyone explain to me this entire process? Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 4, 2005 Good holy mother of fuck. I owe you, `Tack. I've had Soulseek sitting around on my hard drive for quite some time now, since I'd heard bad stories if you don't have your shit organized. I cleaned up my MP3 folder recently, and gave Soulseek another go-round, and I don't think I'll ever use WinMX again. I've also been using Shareaza for finding single MP3s, but find its best use is for finding movies and software, and I use it as my BT client. Only problem I'm having is similar to some others in this thread: I cannot, for the life of me, ever get connected to eDonkey, although I connect to Gnutellas 1 and 2 just fine. Other than that though, I've begun something of a personal renaissance in music after taking a year or so off from being into really any kind of music, and Soulseek is paying off in spades at the moment. Golgo 13 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2005 Are you sure you have an eDonkey server.met file? I couldn't connect to eDonkey either, until I searched one out. If you do and there are servers listed under the Host Cache, they could be outdated and it wouldn't hurt to seek out a new one anyway.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Another problem with both BT and eDonkey/Mule is that if you've got a firewall or router, your ports may be closed off. You'll also want to choose ports other than the default 6881 - 6889, because a lot of ISP's have begun to throttle the bandwith on those, so you won't get very good speeds. It's a pretty easy thing to fix..just google it.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 So, how about an update on this? I DL'ed Shareaza last night, and downloaded about 15 songs. But tonight I get on, and can't find shit. I got one song in an hour. Advice? What's the best program around right now, and what stuff do I need to make it work properly?
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 8, 2006 I use Limewire lately for music. Get downloads very fast, usually. Just need a brain to know which dummy files to skip over.

k thx 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 soulseek is good for music. I don't know if it's still considered the best, but you can find pretty much anything on there.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted February 19, 2007 I've been averse to limewire because of the rampant virus/spyware/dummy files that seem to be on there... My problem at the moment seems to be that I can't get the new version of soulseek up and running. I'm thinking this is a problem with my new router, but yet it seems no matter what I tried to do, whether it was setting up a stable IP or opening up ports on my motorola SBG900, I can't seem to get soulseek to want to play with it. So, sadly, I've just about given up on it. So, my question is, does anyone know if this can be fixed, and if not, what other file sharing program to use for music? I use bittorrents, but those don't come nearly as fast as I can get music on soulseek, which I use for getting entire albums. I hate not being able to use soulseek. EDIT: Oh hey, look at that I got it working. Apparently what I had forgotten to do was to unblock the TCP ports not just on the router but on the included firewall in the SBG900 as well, which I didn't have to do with my old modem. I <3 Slsk. Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2007 Can't believe Demonoid got closed down... again. Looks like its for good this time too. Papacita 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2008 I've been out of the downloading scene for the last couple of years. What would you all recommend for getting movies/etc?
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted February 7, 2008 Torrents are all the rage these days. The best client used to be Azureus, but now it uTorrent, which is open-source and lightweight. I recommend going to scrapetorrent for the torrents themselves, since they aggregate all the torrent search engines into one, and even better for finding TV shows and movies as well. Guest Danny Dubya v 2.0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 uTorrent, which is open-source and lightweight. It's closed-source freeware, actually... not that it makes any real difference in how hard it wins. Frostwire for music, and uTorrent for everything else, is my preference. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted February 15, 2008 I haven't used or heard of Frostwire before. How is it better than Soulseek for music?
Guest Danny Dubya v 2.0 Report post Posted March 25, 2008 It probably isn't. Hadn't heard of Soulseek until seeing this thread, but Frostwire's a fork of Limewire that performs like Limewire Pro and has no nag screens, if that helps comparison at all. I've seen the dummy files too, but they're easy enough for me to spot and avoid that I don't care about them.
