Orton is a ratings DRAW~!

Recommended Posts

Bah "the ratings don't matter until the next few weeks" Can it hold the 3.5-3.7 rating with Monday Night Football as competition? Will there be the cliche "This weeks rating was disappointing low after the PPV......it is apperent that the fans don't care about the product"

With Green Bay vs Carolina as the Monday Night game?

I'd expect the ratings to drop to a 3.2 or lower. I know which I'll be watching. Well actually, mostly RAW but I'd rather watch the football game.

Once I see the ratings getting over the 4.0 mark consistently or drop below 3.0 consistently then I'll care. These net writers are silly because the ratings have been going up and down for years within the 3.0-4.0 range. This was the ratings for nitro when they were kicking the wwe's ass.

I'm happy for Randy and hope he draws well as Champion. It's never hurt to have another guy in the company who you could put the title on at a moment's notice and the fans would buy it. Benoit became a guy who could pull that off earlier this year, and I hope Orton will too. I guess you could say I'm trying to stay positive about this good news.

I rather see RVD, Booker T, Jericho, Christian, Matt Hardy, Stevie Richards, Val Venis with the belt......at least they had an established fan base to work on instead of attempting to make one for a wrestler who is new to the company.

Val Venis? Established fan base? What?

Oh and Stevie Richards with the belt is pretty hysterical.

I rather see a midcard wrestler get elevated to the main event than a rookie getting the push just because he is "family". Stevie + love triangle = ratings

Yeah because the smark with the computer that likes Stevie Richards--a guy who no one cares about outside ECW--is more important than the average fan who watches RAW and goes to WWE events (like say Smackdown on Tuesday) and buys stuff and buys a HHH-Orton main event. Yessirree.

Does anybody else not have visions of the Homer gets elected as mayor episode of the Simpsons when picturing smarks running the McMahons out of WWE in a major coup and taking over WWE? Brand extension, gone. Hello London/Richards for the world title while people say 'What the hell is this crap?!'

Amazing that business for WWE is in general back (and in some cases, better) to where it was before the Monday Night Wars and it's OMGWWEISDYINGLOL2004!~

I rather see a midcard wrestler get elevated to the main event

Actually aren't we bitching about JUST THAT? See Layfield, John Bradshaw............

Because everyone here wants Stevie to be champ, and not one or two, yup.

A Simpsons reference? Reeeeally dated. They're fine for my professors who are in their 40's/50's, but I would think you can do a little better than that.

You're assuming that lots of fans are actually going to *buy* an HHH-Orton main event. That hasn't been proven. Plus you ignore that a lot of the TSM posters are all over Orton's cock lately.

Brand extension, gone. Hello London/Richards for the world title while people say 'What the hell is this crap?!

Yeah, because we all want the brand extension gone. That's the reason by SD sucks; it has nothing to do with shitty booking and maybe a slightly unbalanced roster.

Lord knows that WWE doesn't do something at least every two weeks that makes people say "what the hell is this crap" as it is.

Actually aren't we bitching about JUST THAT? See Layfield, John Bradshaw............

Because when you looked at the list of midcarders around, the one that just screamed "star" was Bradshaw. Man, he was sure proved to be a success, didn't he?

Amazing that business for WWE is in general back (and in some cases, better) to where it was before the Monday Night Wars and it's OMGWWEISDYINGLOL2004!~

Actually, they're mainly having profits because of DVD sales and increased PPVs/increased ticket prices. Buyrates have, save for the major ones, been on a steady decline. They aren't in dire straights, however, they're nowhere near how they were during the boom.

However, before the Monday Night Wars WWF wasn't really doing all that hot...they nearly died in 1995, bounced back a little, and were doing merely okay throughout 97-98 until Austin really took off and then they were heading towards their most successful period since the 80's. Saying they're doing better than they were *before* the Monday Night Wars is damning with faint praise. The MNW seriously hurt WWE at first, but it forced them to turn themselves around to the point where they got better and pulled in new viewers while WCW stagnated and ran out of new ideas. Of course, WWE's account of it in the MNW DVD probably is a lot different...

Until the WWE heads on a several-year-long downward spiral even worse than WCW (remember, WCW had the plug pulled mainly because Turner couldn't justify keeping it around any longer and it was beyond repair, so he was under tremendous pressure to kill it or sell it), and end up losing one or both of their TV deals, then they're going to be doing just fine. However, none of that sort of thing will happen, if ever, for a long time. Once Vince croaks, then I'd be worried about the future of WWE, because neither his kids nor his stooges seem to have a clue how to run things.

Maybe I'm not *exactly* correct on my timeline, but at least I'm trying to look at the whole picture instead of jumping to conclusions. However, playing that anti-smark card, judging a minority's opinions as being everyone else's and making assumptions and claims few or any are making will do just fine instead of a decent argument, I suppose. I guess somebody has to fill in for Zsasz now....

Bradshaw should not be the champion either. There is no reason why RVD could not be Smackdown champion.

Actually....

Naw...

*isn't going to touch that one*

RVD can't act, and his in-ring work isn't good enough to make up for it.

In WWE you have to be exceptional in one of the two areas or be good in both to be a successful champ. Neither scenario applies to RVD.

Kane is a terrible wrestler too, probably worse than RVD, but he could make a good champ just because the audience always seems captivated by his character. Hulk Hogan is the ultimate example of this type of champion.

Chris Benoit has a limited character, but people love him because he is so damn great to watch in the ring. Bret Hart is an example of this type of champion.

HHH isn't stellar in either category, but he's good enough in both that he is also a successful champion.

Bradshaw is a failure and he is much better than RVD character-wise. I could see taking a shot a couple of years ago, but even then I did not think RVD would have a successful run at the top. He just isn't talented or motivated enough. He reminds me of DDP in WCW. Someone that everybody likes, but not somebody good enough to build the promotion around.

Kahran did a very good job of summing it up. DDP was a great midcarder, but main eventer...? Not really. Plus RVD as champ would fall somewhere between the Jericho and Benoit runs, IMO. He'll be a midcarder holding the World Title, while the booking never lets you forget he's not the real star and is only a transitional champion.

Plus his style really doesn't work well for having money-drawing, dramatic matches.

Eddy, Benoit, HBK, and so on can really sell the drama of the match in the ring even if they may not always be so hot in the mic. RVD isn't up to doing that and has shown he has no interest in doing so. He wants to wrestle some matches, get paid, and be left to do what he wants. He doesn't want to completely change his style nor have the responsibility and aggravation of being champ. If not for his paycheck he'd probably have retired long ago, since he doesn't seem to care at all.

RVD doesn't appeal to nearly as wide an audience as Kane. People have trouble getting behind a character that doesn't seem to care whether he wins or loses.

Some wrestler have "it." Some do not.

Stevie doesn't have it. He was a joke in ECW, and shouldn't be anywhere near the World Title.

As it stands, Orton is being pushed as the #1 babyface and is probably no higher than the #3 babyface, in terms of crowd favorites. And I think I'm being generous.

It's very similar to Angle's runs as top face in the company.

What's the big deal with the rating? It's the normal rating. It wasn't 3.2 throughout all of Benoit's reign...just one show.

On the other hand though, it needs a little more Kane.

Okay, maybe 2 people will get that, but ah well.

Stevie has "it" but the establishment will not let him use "it". Stevie Richards can be more than the mere sidekick or runt of the stable.....its more than I can say about the current champion.

He's right though in that whether Stevie has "it" or not he's really damaged goods.

It would take a company smart enough to book him strongly for long enough.

Right now they can't come up with anything beyond having him do run-in's in

a dress.

You and I both know the closest Stevie Richards will be to the championship is you mentioning it :D

Anything past a tag champ right now would be a joke.

Both Orton and Bradshaw are champs that are not ring leaders.JBL was totally carried by Haas on Smackdown last night as he has been by Eddie and to a degree Undertaker.Orton has been carried by Foley,Benoit and soon HHH.As for his Edge match they probably pulled a slight ddp and planned out the last half of the match and just dogged it with rest holds for the first.

As much Orton love as their's been lately I still think most people here would agree that Batista should be getting Orton's push right now.

Orton has already become more than the runt of a stable. Stevie looked minor next to women wrestlers. You can't that about the current Champ either. ;)

Doesn't have it. Never will.

When X-PAC is a more natural leader of a midcard heel stable (X-Factor vs RTC) then we've got problems..........................

There's a huge differance with the Beniot title win and Orton title win. With the Beniot title win at Wrestlemania most of the focus was put on HBK and HHH with Beniot just in the backround. As soon as Beniot got over to Raw, the HBK and HHH feud pushed Beniot along with his Royal Rumble win to the side and made Beniot look like the underdog so when Beniot won the title it was a lot more emotional and the win ment a lot more to the crowd and fans because before hand it just seemed like the HBK/HHH feud had surpassed the Beniot story. Now with the Orton thing, Orton was favored to win his match with Beniot. He won the battle royal a few weeks eariler, he pinned Beniot in an actual match, while Beniot just made him tap once not in a match. So when Orton won the title it wasn't really a surprise to most fans it was either a "yay" or a "fucking son of a bitch" response...yes mine was the second one. So the reason why Beniot's title win got more of the "anyone can win the title" feeling was because the focus was mainly on HBK and HHH with Beniot as the add on to the match, while Orton's win was something to suspect.
