One interesting point:

Josh Beckett will be going for his 3rd consecutive shutout. Two starts ago 9 IP, 0 ER and last start 8 IP, 0 ER.

I'll definitely be rooting for him, since I inadvertently left seven innings of shutout ball from Ben Sheets on my bench in the SNKT fantasy baseball league (never, EVER, trust Yahoo's probables).

I'm guessing because Florida is under a hurricane watch due to Ivan, and since they're already in Chicago, why not play the games there than risk more games being rained out.

Couldn't they have traveled to Montreal so someone had a home base crowd, or is it a way for the Marlins to get in "Home games"? I knew about the hurricane btw, and shouldn't have taken out where I mentioned it in my original post.

I'm willing to bet that they get a better turnout in Chicago than they would get in Montreal. Just a guess though.

Yeah, it's a way for the Marlins to get "home games" in that are effected by the conga line of hurricanes coming through here.

The game being played in Montreal is wrong for many reasons. The Marlins are in the thick of the wild card hunt and already lost one home game to the Chicago Cubs, one of the teams they are chasing. It's not their fault Miami is in the path of multiple hurricanes, and they are still entitled to home games. This isn't a natural home game, per se, but at least they get to bat last and it's in a neutral site. If the game were in Montreal, the Expos would have to bat last and the Marlins would, in effect, lose two more home games. The fact that they are playing in chicago is suboptimal, but it's better than nothing.

Also, did anyone see the play that happened in the second inning of Cubs/Marlins yesterday? I was flipping back to football, so I missed it. Apparently, this is what happened: Moises Alou hit a foul ball into the stands...Cabrera chased it down, fake jumped into the stands and then mocked Alou's temper tantrum when Bartman interfered with the ball. Even though the ball was about 30 rows deep. All the Marlins think it's the funniest thing ever. Coincidentally or not, Miguel got plunked in his next at bat. Maybe a little unprofessional, but he said it was just meant to be funny and none of the Cubs were that offended. So I give it a thumbs up. I'd like to find a clip of it somewhere though.

Today is the start of a four game series between the Padres and the Dodgers. Those games are always interesting, especially the fans in the stands. If you put LA and SD fans in the same place you're bound to get some arguments and fights.

Moises' temper tantrum wasn't appropriate in the least, but this is a load of crap from a punk. He's going to be a great player, but last time I checked, his job was to play baseball, not do improv in the middle of the game. I would've plunked him, too and learned his ass some respect.

I think I might move to San Diego now just to catch brawls between LA and SD baseball fans...of course I am kidding.

There's an auto show or something that has the Expos' stadium booked, that's why they aren't there.

Well, no shutout for Beckett. After the first inning, yes. Overall, no. Expos, however, are shutting out the Marlins 2-0 heading into the 8th. Marlins have squandered a ton of opportunities.

They've got another one going here; runners at the corners with no outs and the big guys coming up. Chicago was probably a good home venue for the Marlins, since almost of the people in attendance hate the Cubs and thus, are truly treating the Marlins like the home team.

And the Marlins are now up 6-2, thanks to the dipshit Expos making FOUR errors, one of which would've been a key double play and another that would've ended the inning, but plated two. Dandy.

There was a motocross show at the Big O this weekend (and I guess into Monday and Tuesday, too), so that's why they couldn't hold the games there, even if they wanted to.

The Yankees must sweep here.

They're playing the worst team in baseball...besides Arizona. It shouldn't even need "options".

Brian Anderson is the luckiest pitcher alive. Jeter gets a hard hit single, A-Rod has a hard hit double, Sheff has a lazer groundout, and Posada hits a lazer grounding into a DP and we don't score.

ugh.

EDIT: With a runner on second, Olerud hits a ball going into center for a hit. Luckily, it hits Anderson in the foot, and goes right to the shortstop. Then Sierra hits a rocket, but it goes RIGHT to the CFer.

Jesus christ.

Why isn't this a blowout yet? It's bordering on hilarity how the Yankees keep getting runners to second and third with less than two outs and not come out with any runs. Can't forget about that dandy pitching, either.

EDIT: Never mind, it's a blowout now. The Yanks are just on the short end, that's all.

Eh... Cubs suck! (worst comeback ever) I got nothin, and the WORST TEAM IN BASEBALL is making the New York Yankees' their whores.

I'll watch the San Diego/Los Angeles game, watch a pitcher who can win (David Wells).

I stand corrected on a statement I made on Wells a few Game Chatter Threads ago, having barely walking 1 batter per 9 innings. It's actually 0.8 per 9. Not too shabby.
