If you use drugs, you're with the terrorists

Recommended Posts

Obviously, the pharmaceutical lobby would be crushed by marijuana legalization...no doctor would continue to prescribe heroin-based painkillers that destroy families(morphine, methadone, and Rush's favorite Oxy) when a non-addictive, far safer, and still effective option were to be made available.

Dead wrong on a couple counts. First of all, there's no such creature as a heroin-based painkiller, and methadone DEFINITELY isn't a painkiller a doctor is going to perscribe someone. I see what you're going for, but it's terribly incorrect.

Pot doesn't even work in the same fashion. If your back is in terrible pain, and you smoke a joint, you're going to be high, and your back will still hurt. The placebo effect could do wonders for the patient, but it's really not a suitable analgesic. Morphine actually changes the chemistry of pain.

Sorry guy, but methadone has been prescribed as a midterm painkiller while patients get hooked on other pills...

Morphine, oxycontin, etc are heroin based...this is common knowledge. They all come from the poppy plant, all have the same effects, and consequences.

Yeah, I've known a few people who loved eating Oxys like candy, and it can really mess you up. But how many families have been destroyed by someone taking their legal prescription in accordance with doctor's orders? Not many, I'd guess.

when a non-addictive, far safer, and still effective option were to be made available.

Safer, sure. You can't OD on weed. But non-addictive? Please, any serious pothead will tell you that's bullshit. And "effective" as a painkiller? It can give you a mild body buzz, but as for serious crippling pain, your average Tylenol is more likely to have an effect than maryjane.

Many families are hurt by oxycontin prescriptions....that stuff is highly addictive, and effects everyone who uses it very strongly. Its not just recreational usage...its a guranteed side effect unfortunately. It comes from the same plkace as heroin and thus has the same inherant results.

Many many doctors will disagree with you on the last point.

What about Loratab (spelling)? That's what I took for surgery a little while back.

Loratabs aren't terribly strong, in moderate doses they're just a step up from over-the-counter stuff.

I know exactly what Oxycontin does; I've taken it on more than one occasion. And I've known a couple of heroin addicts. Trust me, the two drugs are very dissimilar.

Why is this even being argued?

Heroin is derived from the poppy plant...Oxy is derived from the poppy plant..

Both are classified as opiates, both have nearly the same effects (both are painkilling downers), and both have nearly the same consequences of addiction.

This is just acknowledged fact.

Yeah, I'm not arguing that they're both opiates, I'm arguing that Morphine and Oxy's aren't based on HEROIN. HEROIN is a completely different derivitive. If you do a little research, you'll note that Heroin was actually invented as an alternative to Morphine. Heroin is an offshoot, not the basic element there...

dunno how this thread got resurrected, but re-reading the original editorial pasted in the thread, I got a good laugh out of........

"if you take drugs, you stand against freedom"

Is that some irony or what?
