cabbageboy Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Actually if the Dodgers lose tonight and Cubs win today then they are both tied....if the Giants lose the Cubs can go ahead of them. Basically it'd be nice to see SF and LA both lose.
The Man in Blak Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Actually, if I had to pick my World Series, I think there could be a good shot of seeing the 1987 Redux~! of St. Louis and Minnesota...which would make for an absurd set of games.
CanadianChris Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Reading the box score for the SF/Houston game last night...this line is ridiculous: AB R H BI BB SO Bonds LF 1 0 1 1 4 0 3B - Bonds (2) IBB - Bonds 4 Reading the game account, this was the fourth time this season Bonds has been intentionally walked 4 times, once again tying his own major league record. PITCH TO HIM, DAMMIT.
2GOLD Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Cubs are ahead 2. Bottom of the 7th. Fransworth has just came in. Cross your fingers Cubs fans. Fransworth actually pitches well and sends the game to the 8th with the Cubs up 5-3.
Brett Favre Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 What? You thought a shitty closer was going to stop the Sox from winning another game and gaining a game on the Yanks? Shitty closer? Are you talking about Keith Foulke?
2GOLD Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 What? You thought a shitty closer was going to stop the Sox from winning another game and gaining a game on the Yanks? Shitty closer? Are you talking about Keith Foulke? No, I think he meant Jorge Julio.

Bruiser Chong Posted September 23, 2004 Author Report Posted September 23, 2004 Actually, if I had to pick my World Series, I think there could be a good shot of seeing the 1987 Redux~! of St. Louis and Minnesota...which would make for an absurd set of games. I was actually thinking about this the other day. If the Cards don't choke, they should make it to the WS easily. I'm thinking that with Johan being unhittable for the most part, the Twins have a great shot at advancing for once. In a seven-game series, you KNOW they'll find a way to get Johan out there three times. I'd personally love to see how the Cards would fare against Johan. That is, if the Cubs don't get to the postseason.
Bored Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 It's Tim Hudson vs. Chan Ho Park today in Texas and you'd think the A's would win easily but so far down 2-1 in the 4th. If the A's can't win this one then it might be panic time.
2GOLD Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Cubs win, 6-3 Maddux wins #15 The 17th straight year that Maddux has won 15 games in a season. Amazing and totally gets no press for the things he does.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 23, 2004 Author Report Posted September 23, 2004 That's because he goes out there, does his job and that's that. He isn't animated and isn't always stirring shit off the field because of his mouth. The media's so used to shining the attention down on people who are creating controversy that they don't know how to treat Maddux.
strummer Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 I'm sure the Red Sox are appreciating the Devil Rays' "effort" against the Yankees today. There have been about 11 first pitch outs of the 21 outs recorded so far (game is in the bottom of the 7th) Sterling and Steiner on the radio have been laughing at Tampa the whole game.
strummer Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 and the Rangers come back and beat the A's in the bottom of the 9th, 5-4. Wow, Rangers are only 2 back of the A's.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 23, 2004 Author Report Posted September 23, 2004 Damn, I don't mind them winning, but getting three runs off of Dotel? It's a bad week for my relievers, considering I've got both Dotel and Smoltz, two closers who've been shelled this week.

EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Just the usual whining. Seriously, if you don't like ESPN, turn it off and quit bothering the rest of us.

Or the Baseball Tonight Trade Deadline Special last year with Rich Harden updates every five minutes. 'Hey Rich Harden farted let's go down to Oakland!'
Bruiser Chong Posted September 24, 2004 Author Report Posted September 24, 2004 I agree about the Bonds thing, since what he was aiming for was something we'll probably only see once in our time. By the same token, I agree that Maddux gets little credit. Yeah, he's praised everytime he's on the mound, but think about what he's done here. 17 straight years of at least 15 wins. That's amazing, especially when you consider he was playing for some pretty average / lousy Cubs teams and how off he was in the first half of the season. Pitching's almost always taken a backseat to hitting, but Maddux is one of those guys you just don't hear about these days. You can't hear about pitchers without hearing names like Schilling, Johnson and Santana (and rightfully so), but Maddux is almost always ommitted. Why? Because he's so low key and just does what he's paid to do: pitch well. He doesn't strike out in the double digits every outing, he'll give up some runs at times, but he rarely walks batters, he usually keeps his team in it and he almost always gives them at least six or seven quality innings. On top of that, he wins. Can't ask for a whole lot more.
cabbageboy Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 In all honesty Maddux hasn't done anything really all that amazing in years....his last Cy Young was 1995. Maddux is one of my favorite pitchers mind you, but there's not much story in a guy who goes out and pitches 6-7 innings, strikes out few people, and gives up 3 runs.
Guest Brian Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Consistency doesn't make much highlights.
Cartman Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Please, Baseball Gods, let that worthless piece of garbage Byung Hyung Kim be run over by an enraged Boston Cab driver tonight. P.S. Fire Terry Francona NOW.
mike546 Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 I gotta hand it to the Orioles. Even though they lost two out of three, they played a HELL of a series against the Sox. They could have even possibily swept the series if it weren't for Lee's HORRIBLE coaching. And, we have a 4.5 lead again, meaning if we get swept by the Sox, we need to lose 2/3 to the Twins, and they need to win 2/3 or better to win the division against the Orioles.
strummer Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 And the Red Sox lose 9-7 after David Ortiz's fly ball is caught right at the wall with 2 men on in the bottom of the 9th. If that ball goes out, it would have made the weekend a lot more interesting. That lose pretty much gives the division to the Yankees. A 4.5 game lead with 10 games to go. Hopefully the Red Sox play well this weekend to put some juice into the series. It looks like the West races in both Leagues are going to provide the most drama down the stretch.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Amazingly, the Phillies sweep the Marlins at Pro Player Stadium. Hopefully now the monkey is off the Phillies backs heading into next season. And the Florida fans gave the Marlins a nice ovation for their final home game.

P.S. Fire Terry Francona NOW. Isn't that a little harsh? You can simply wish for a NYC Cabby to do it. Most of them don't speak english, so they can get away with it probably instead of a concerned baseball fan going to jail.
mike546 Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 If that ball had gone out, I would have killed myself.
strummer Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 It took over a 150 games, but Armando Benitez finally gives up a big game winning homerun. Could see that coming a mile away as all Mets fans know. Seriously though, he's had a great year and could be a valuable free agent in the offseason
