Considering they are in a division where the 2nd place team is barely above .500, it's not really an acomplishment.

What a feat.

Winning the Comedy Central (and then doing little or nothing in the playoffs) three years in a row. Really quite exciting.

Hey, remember that for along time the White Sox and the Indians were fighting for the Wild Card.

Also the Twins prefer to build their players through the farm system, instead of buying their players such as the Yankees, Cardinals, and the Red Sox.

Also be afraid of facing Santana in the playoffs.

The Twins farm system can't be too good then, since they haven't won a world series for nearly 15 years....heck, they haven't even MADE a world series since last winning it.

When were the Sox and Indians Wild Card contenders? In July? The only teams that have been a consideration in the past month or so were the Red Sox, Angels, and Rangers (as usual).

And look where that's got them!

Besides, one man can't win 11 games single handedly.

...and you're comparing them to? You can say the same about the Cardinals AND the Red Sox, and it's been a longer World Series drought for the latter two teams.

Here comes... *gasp*....actual research.

The Indians were 63-55 after August 14th, winning 10 of the last 11 games. On that date, they were 1.5 games behind the Twins (64-53). Since that date, they've gone 9-23, with a three, three, five and NINE game losing streak peppered through that period. On the other end, the Twins have gone 24-9 since August 15th, effectively locking up the division.

...and THAT'S how the Indians fell out of the race.

The A's winning again will be an amazing feat, not the Twinkies.

They still won the worst division in the Major Leagues. Thats like celebrating beating the pants off the Detroit Tigers & Kansas City Royals. The Indians WERE good, but haven't been able to do anything for over a month. The White Sox forget about it. Without Thomas and Ordonez, they have nothing, and even then they couldn't win anything.

Who are you arguing against? You come up with a point about the how the Indians and Sox have been out of it since July, thus I proved how both teams were in it up until two (or three) weeks ago, until both teams imploded and lost the race themselves.

Look at your original post.

Hence, my earlier post.

A wild card race doesn't mean anything until September when it comes down to fewer games, thats the point I was trying to make, but should've worded it better.

The only teams recently that have been at the top for the Wild Card have been Boston, Anahiem, and Texas. Either broadcasters didn't bother to include Chicago or Clevland for the past month+, or they haven't been close enough to be mentioned.

Kind of like the Phillies. They haven't been really close enough in the Wild Card race, and were pretty much written off with a very slim chance of making it.

Wow, the Twins won the AL Central, what an amazing accomplishment.

And yet they still only beat the Mariners 5-4 in the season series...........................

Brad Radke..an improving Carlos Silva, Kyle Lohse is pitching better. The best bullpen of the AL playoff teams.

Ha. I love how everyone bickers senselessly and then Al comes in and throws down the hammer, with I dunno...facts.

For what it's worth, I'd like to see the Twins succeed, and at least win one series, preferably against the Yankees.

If you really want to pick nits with the 'weak division' argument, I'd like to point out that the AL East includes the Orioles, Devil Rays, and Blue Jays. How can you bitch about the Twins playing in a 'weak' division when the Yankees play 1/3 of their schedule against those teams?

The Twins are a good ball team and have been good for several seasons now. Just accept it already.

The Twins are a nice little team and at best could make the ALCS again before jobbing out to either NY or Boston.

They might have a slightly higher win % than Oakland, LA, and are tied with the Braves, but those teams all play in tougher divisions. Dodgers have the Giants and Padres to contend with, both of whom are in playoff contention. Oakland has the Angels and Rangers to contend with, and those teams have been in the race (at least until recently when TX fell off). Braves have the Marlins.

I can't help but think either the Twins or A's will upset the Yankees in the first round. I base this on absolutely nothing other than I think the Sox will reach the Series this year, but we all know they can't ever beat the Yanks so someone will need to upset NY.

Until last month when the D-Rays just went to shit, they were teatering on .500, the Red Sox are a great team, and so are the Yankees. The Orioles may have a bad record, but they beat the Red Sox plenty of times this season, and held their own against the Yankees.

The only team thats really sucked for the entire season was Toronto. They may get a win here and there against the "better" teams, but they can't do it on a consistant basis.

By default, whoever wins the Central is my second team to root for in the playoffs if Boston makes it (and the only team I root for if the Sox don't), since I won't root for other AL East teams, of course, and I hate the West (except for the Angels, they're allright)

So, go Twins. Hurah.

August 18th, 2004 - Metrodome

Ah yes, the little known August playoffs.

And...?

And...?

Come on, you can say it!

There were (and are) two great teams fighting out for the AL East crown. The Twins had to outlast Cleveland.

It's not like the Twins are sneaking in thanks to a weak division. Their winning percentage

Which has quite a bit to do with their weak division...

I was just noting that the AL East isn't exactly overflowing with powerhouse teams, so to argue that the Twins somehow get a break becuase of their division is fairly weak if you're a Yankee fan.

BTW, I'll give you a nickel if you can tell me who which AL Central team has a winning record against both the Sox (4-2) and Yanks (albeit only 2-1) this season.

Give up? It's the Twins.
