Also the Twins prefer to build their players through the farm system, instead of buying their players such as the Yankees, Cardinals, and the Red Sox. The Twins farm system can't be too good then, since they haven't won a world series for nearly 15 years....heck, they haven't even MADE a world series since last winning it. When were the Sox and Indians Wild Card contenders? In July? The only teams that have been a consideration in the past month or so were the Red Sox, Angels, and Rangers (as usual). On the other end, the Twins have gone 24-9 since August 15th, effectively locking up the division. ...and THAT'S how the Indians fell out of the race. You come up with a point about the how the Indians and Sox have been out of it since July, thus I proved how both teams were in it up until two (or three) weeks ago, until both teams imploded and lost the race themselves. Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 21, 2004 A wild card race doesn't mean anything until September when it comes down to fewer games, thats the point I was trying to make, but should've worded it better. The only teams recently that have been at the top for the Wild Card have been Boston, Anahiem, and Texas. Either broadcasters didn't bother to include Chicago or Clevland for the past month+, or they haven't been close enough to be mentioned. Kind of like the Phillies. Their winning percentage is better than both the West division leaders, the Dodgers and the Athletics, and its the same as the NL East leading Braves. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2004 The Twins are a nice little team and at best could make the ALCS again before jobbing out to either NY or Boston. They might have a slightly higher win % than Oakland, LA, and are tied with the Braves, but those teams all play in tougher divisions. Dodgers have the Giants and Padres to contend with, both of whom are in playoff contention. Oakland has the Angels and Rangers to contend with, and those teams have been in the race (at least until recently when TX fell off). Braves have the Marlins. I can't help but think either the Twins or A's will upset the Yankees in the first round. I base this on absolutely nothing other than I think the Sox will reach the Series this year, but we all know they can't ever beat the Yanks so someone will need to upset NY. The Twins are a good ball team and have been good for several seasons now. Just accept it already. Until last month when the D-Rays just went to shit, they were teatering on .500, the Red Sox are a great team, and so are the Yankees. The Orioles may have a bad record, but they beat the Red Sox plenty of times this season, and held their own against the Yankees. The only team thats really sucked for the entire season was Toronto. I was just noting that the AL East isn't exactly overflowing with powerhouse teams, so to argue that the Twins somehow get a break becuase of their division is fairly weak if you're a Yankee fan. BTW, I'll give you a nickel if you can tell me who which AL Central team has a winning record against both the Sox (4-2) and Yanks (albeit only 2-1) this season. Give up? It's the Twins.
