EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 What are the odds od San Diego making the playoffs now? 1%. To address the Padres, they do have some good players. Brian Giles is a very underappreciated hitter, as is Mark Loretta. Mark Loretta has played insanely well this season. Akinori Otsuka is one of the best relievers in the game, with a funky delivery to boot. I enjoy watching them. Last year's Cubs were no choke, just the end. That was a pretty overachieving team. Now this year, with Wood, Prior, Maddux, Nomar, Sosa, Lee, Alou, Ramirez, and friends all unable to muster anything better than a Wild Card and end up 14 games or so behind the Cardinals...that's a choke. 2004: 88-68 (.564) 2003: 88-74 (.543)

mike546 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 God dammit. Why does the Rays pitching suck so much?
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 A better question is why is Maddux so horrible against the Reds? An even better question is why can the Cubs score 12 runs one night and look incapable of scoring one the next? This isn't just a case of pitchers, either. They've messed up some good pitchers and had tough times against weaker ones in the next game.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 And the Cards get robbed out of run on a botched call at home - Haren hits a shallow fly to Beltran, Sanders tags, Beltran guns, Sanders slides, Ausmus tags his back foot after it's already crossed the plate...and the umpire is FIXATED on whether Ausmus held the ball on this non-collision. He calls him out, despite the fact that it's a violation of the law of physics for Ausmus to slip the tag on the front of the foot and then materialize his glove behind Sanders' leg. I mean, I can't complain too loudly - we're in the playoffs and we've had our share of things break our way this year, but I'd much rather see umpire consistency, personally. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 29, 2004 Why would anyone outside of SD want to see the Padres in the playoffs? These guys bring nothing to the table in terms of intrigue or fan interest, BOOMAH!
strummer 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 Red Sox take a 10-8 lead in the 11th in Tampa on a 2 run homer by Millar
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 29, 2004 Shit, Boston leads 10-8 off a Millar home run in and it's time for Tampa Bays final chance. Edit: Strummer beat me to it.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 29, 2004 So 2 1/2 games behind the Yanks, possibly? While the Yanks face the Twins? Oof. Not worried. The Yankees are a better team than the Twins, and Minnesota has nothing to play for anymore.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 Cubs fall to the Reds 8-3. Maddux was awful and the Cubs haven't looked good since the beginning of the Mets series. Giants are also losing, so it looks like they may at least stay up in the WC for now.
strummer 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 On the message boards on Yankees.com, they are saying the Yankees are "hiding" EL Duque from the Twins for the Post Season. The "tired arm" is a work so to speak.
mike546 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 But that Santana start is one automatic loss. And El Duques not pitching tomorrow because of a "tired arm" I'm scared.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 29, 2004 (edited) But that Santana start is one automatic loss. No it's not. Santana's going to go six innings, and if we keep it close, it absolutely isn't an automatic loss. Edited September 29, 2004 by Anglesault
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 Looking at Eric Milton's stats, he's allowed 41 HRs this season. And less anyone thinks that is due to the new ballpark, 23 of those have come on the road. 23 road HRs in 96 2/3 IP.

Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 29, 2004 Of course, the Yankees will probably play great tomorrow's first game, then turn to horse shit for the next two of the series.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 I really enjoy listening to the Devil Rays' broadcasters. They do a good job. Isn't one of them blind? I don't have a clue what their names are even. All I know is that they are informative, and very good at making sure the listener is updated about the count, outs, score, and little things like that. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 The Astros win, meaning they're a half game back of the Cubs. If they get the sweep tomorrow, I think they've got a great chance to sneak in the back door and snag the WC. Everyone's talked about the Cubs and the Giants, basically ignoring the Stros who've remained in it. While the Cubs draw the Braves, the Giants will have to deal with the Dodgers. Who do the Stros get? The Rockies.
