EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 28, 2004 Author Report Posted September 28, 2004 A's lead the Mariners 2-0 in the 3rd, btw.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 You, regardless, the Rangers don't have anything to be ashamed off. This will be the first time in years they don't finish last and when was the last time they were in a pennant race the last week of September? This is a team everyone said would fade away because of no pitching. That'll be one of their undoings, but they never did fade away, as it looks like they'll just fall short in an otherwise impressive season.
Cuban Linx Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Figures the 3 guys on the team that could actually do something in that situation were the ones sitting on base. Losing 2 out of 3 to Seattle and now this one just about ends it for Texas, barring some sort of miracle where every result goes in their favor.
strummer Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 The Rockies are about to blow open the game with the Dodgers, 7-5 in the 4th with Colorado batting with men on base
strummer Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 A's extend their lead to 5-1 over the Mariners
Bored Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 A's have a 5-2 lead heading to the 7th but they've had plenty of chances to make this game a blow out. I'm not overly concerned about the Angels coming back to win tonight (as long as the A's win tonight) but the Rangers better win tommorrow. If they lose they'd be pretty much done and I'm worried about them tanking the final two games of the series.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 A's have a 5-2 lead heading to the 7th but they've had plenty of chances to make this game a blow out. And Dotel is a-coming, I would assume.
Bored Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Wilie Bloomquist just hit a three-run homer to tie up the game. WILLIE BLOOMQUIST That might be the water shed moment for the A's meltdown of this season right there.
cabbageboy Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Hey, the Cubs at least won tonight 12-5 over the Reds. That puts them now 1 game over the Giants for the WC, which is nice. 3 more with Cincy and the Giants have a tough series with SD and then finish at LA. I think the Astros will end up giving the Cubs more of a headache than the Giants at this point. SF has too many tough games left and Houston has the Cardinals (who are likely resting guys at this point) and hapless Rockies left.
Guest GreatOne Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Ichiro's up this inning if the mighty trio of Lopez, Wilson, and Bloomquist can turn it over against Dotel.
Bored Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Thank you Bob Melvin for intentionally walking the bases loaded with one out. A's win 6-5 and advert this game being known forver as "The Willie Bllomquist Game" among A's fans.
Guest GreatOne Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Melvin's strategy of BTB walking Hatteberg and Scutaro doesn't exactly pay off as Crosby wins it with a sac fly, A's keep a slim lead in the West.

The winning run's at third anyway, why the hell not?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 28, 2004 Author Report Posted September 28, 2004 Los Angeles came back to beat Colorado last night, extending their lead to three games. Tonight we've got Anaheim at Texas (Kelvim Escobar vs. Chan Ho Park). Last horrah for the Rangers (but I've said that before). Also San Francisco @ San Diego (Jason Schmidt vs. Brian Lawrence).
CanadianChris Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 D-Backs beat Milwaukee 3-1 last night. Randy Johnson pitched 7 innings of 1-run, 5-hit ball and struck out 10 more. If he can win his last start this weekend and get to 16 wins, I think he's the frontrunner for the NL Cy Young.
Guest Staravenger Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 What are the odds od San Diego making the playoffs now? Hopefully higher than 3% because I'd rather see them in the Wild Card this year for a slight change instead of the Cubs...again.
The Czech Republic Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 The series with the Giants will determine how in it the Padres are. But the Cubs should have it locked up by the end of the week.
sfaJack Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I figure 3/4 from the Reds and 2/3 from the Braves ought to do it for the Cubs. I don't see the Giants doing any better than 4-2, nor do I expect the Astros to win all 5 of their remaining games.
The Czech Republic Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I was thinking it would end up being a sweep and 1/3 myself.
Guest Brian Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 The Cubs shall always disappoint.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 What are the odds od San Diego making the playoffs now? Hopefully higher than 3% because I'd rather see them in the Wild Card this year for a slight change instead of the Cubs...again. This coming from a Yankees fan. Perish the thought of the Cubs making the postseason two years in a row. Man, that possibility makes the entire postseason so stagnant; good thing we'll have new teams like the Yankees, Red Sox and Braves in the postseason to freshen things up.
Guest Staravenger Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 OK, I'll cheer the Cubs like last year and watch them choke again. I'd rather the Braves and Red Sox not be in the playoffs either, but both teams have been good-great for quite some time (Braves won 13 straight division titles, Red Sox have been Playoff contenders every year for past 7-8 years if my memory is correct). Besides, I have someone who's always pushing the damn Padres on me for the past couple of years, so I just kinda have a soft spot for them to win...even though they probably won't.
Guest GreatOne Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I wouldn't call the Cubs season as whole last year a choke, maybe just the NLCS by itself. Now this year, different story....................
The Czech Republic Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Last year's Cubs were no choke, just the end. That was a pretty overachieving team. Now this year, with Wood, Prior, Maddux, Nomar, Sosa, Lee, Alou, Ramirez, and friends all unable to muster anything better than a Wild Card and end up 14 games or so behind the Cardinals...that's a choke.
Guest Staravenger Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I wouldn't call the Cubs season as whole last year a choke, maybe just the NLCS by itself. Now this year, different story.................... I meant the NLCS...they had the series won, and I was glad they would be in the World Series, but then disaster struck.
strummer Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Yankees/Twins postponed, DH tomorrow at 4:05
Guest Staravenger Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Yankees/Twins postponed, DH tomorrow at 4:05 Thanks for the heads up, I gotta change my fantasy league team roster around fast.
cabbageboy Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Why would anyone outside of SD want to see the Padres in the playoffs? These guys bring nothing to the table in terms of intrigue or fan interest, particularly when compared to the Bonds led Giants or the Cubs. What if the Padres do make the playoffs? They'd be swept in 3 quite easily by the Cardinals. That said, I'll be rooting for the Padres to take out the Giants the next 3 games to help the Cubs out.
Hektik Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Why would anyone outside of SD want to see the Padres in the playoffs? These guys bring nothing to the table in terms of intrigue or fan interest, particularly when compared to the Bonds led Giants or the Cubs. God forbid a team make the playoffs without any ~ESPN STARS~ I mean that is what baseball is all about, right. Elite teams with "Superstars" that ESPN and Fox can get behind. Hell, get rid of the rest of the league and trim it down to six teams. Then the "real" teams won't have to deal with "little" teams that nobody cares about. Because we all know that if you don't care about a team, nobody does. What if the Padres do make the playoffs? They'd be swept in 3 quite easily by the Cardinals. You do know that the Cardinals would have to face David Wells and Jake Peavy in the first two games. I guess you never heard the phrase that good pitching stops good hitting.
cabbageboy Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I'm sure the Cardinals are just shaking in their cleats over the prospect of facing Jake Peavy. Okay, I'll amend it: Padres might take 1 game if Wells is out of his mind, but that's about it. Hektik, I noticed the Padres logo on your posts so I take it you're from the SD area or somewhere in S. CA? My original post doesn't really apply to you since you're a fan. I'm just saying that for most of the country the Pads are mostly viewed as a spoiler. As far as teams still contending for the WC that people would want to see, they'd finish a distant last behind the Cubs, Giants, and Astros. You can argue it all you want, but this is reality.
