Special K 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 Anyone who likes quirky, fun games should give this a serious look. It's only $20, and is fun to pick up to blow off some steam, and little kids can play it pretty well. IGN has a better summary than I could write up. GameFAQS also has Katamari Damacy review links. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 You mean it's a) out now and b) using the Romanized version of its original title? I'll be damned.
Special K 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 Yup, they didn't change a lick of the game besides translating it. Same cover too. Same (awesome) music. It's getting stellar reviews as well. i wouldn't pay $50 for it, but at $20, it's a steal.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2004 I got this game on import, highly recommended.
Ced 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 I gave it a test run at my local GameSpot and found it really addictive. I may have to pick this up, and the cheap price makes the deal sweeter.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 I almost bought this as a blind buy the other day based ONLY on how weird it looked.
Ced 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2004 Finally got my hands on a copy after driving to four different stores and finding they had already sold out of their limited quantities. And this game is insane in a very good way. The only major drawback is that the camera doesn't like to cooperate every so often, but the sheer craziness of the game is completely addicting. When you go from rolling over little pieces of fruit to cars to friggin' buildings in the same level, you'll understand.
Guest Mr.Negativity Report post Posted October 6, 2004 This game is so out here, and I love it. Seems like it'll be another buried treasure like ICO. Since I bought it today, I've been pretty much playing all day. The gameplay is simple and a bit challenging. I've done some levels a few times over. The multiplayer is very simplistic, but I had a blast with that too. Nothing like rolling over your opponent and adding them to your katamari. The soundtrack is awesome, absurd yet catchy tunes. I'm loving the colourful world. The people remind me of those old fisher price toys I had as a kid. Great game, my thumbs are sore from playing all day. Ced 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 I'd so buy the soundtrack except the fact that it's more expensive than the game itself. Lonely Rolling Star has been stuck in my head all day.
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 I've read the reviews and it looks great. I think I'm gonna pick it up sometime before I get GTA: San Andreas.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Completely sold out in my area. I'll have to wait and try to get ahold of another copy next week.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2004 Just picked it up. It IS good, and jaw-droppingly insane. Bad translation, but that's part of the charm. I keep playing the same levels over and over, trying to get the biggest wad of junk possible. You gotta know when to step up to bigger stuff, when you can easily roll up enemies. Music is weird, though, and damn it takes a lot to impress the King. I'm still amazed this made it State-side. I hope it sells really well.
Ced 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2004 I'm up to a 92% collection status, and making a mission out of trying to get 100%. And the Taurus and Ursa Major levels are by far the most difficult levels in the game to score well on, for me at least. By the time I get my katamari big enough to get a large cow or bear, I accidentally run over a tiny bear carving or a milk carton. That makes me so very angrily sad. I also watched the entire intro movie for the first time today. It makes absolutely no damn sense whatsoever, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2004 So getting 100% of a certain kind of animal for the constellations is more important than getting a certain number of them? The game does a poor job of explaining that, if that's the case.
Special K 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2004 In taurus and Ursa, the goal is only to get the biggest one you can find.

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2004 You mean it's a) out now and b) using the Romanized version of its original title? Damacy isn't even a Japanese word. I wish they should have come up with something more traditional, the title makes it absolute hell to ask over the phone whether a retailer has it in stock.
