Canadian WWE Farm system

Recommended Posts

From todays edition of the Moncton Times and Transcript:

Headline: Wrestling School in Proposal Stage

The Father and son team of Emile and Jeffery Dupre have been approached by the World Wrestling Entertainment to open a "Farm system type" wrestling school in Moncton. "The School is still in the proposal stage," said the elder Dupre, a wrestling icon during his days with the sport. Meanwhile, Jeffery. 23 plans to attend a WWE training school in Louisville, KY. later this fall. Jeffery's 20 year old brother Rene Joined the WWE in 2002 and is doing great. He since has wrestled in a number of world centers in North America, Europe and the Orient

-----------------------------------------

I think it would be great for us here on the east coast to finally get a regular company out here.

I don't know about the Jeffery's abilities, Rene was the kid that has wrestled since high school. May be interesting to see, Vince likes the French brother tag teams

The concept of a wrestling school in the Atlantic provinces is interesting, but I wonder why on the east coast? You would think that the WWE would have looked to the western provinces, like Calgary or in Ontario, where the population is bigger and you can attract more people for the school.

Perhaps the WWE just wants a school that they can pick up the talent and not have to put in any resources in, since OVW is their main farm system. I do not see WWE splitting their farms into the Canadian and the US farm system.

I would like a farm system on the east coast, then perhaps some current WWE members could do shows down here.

Moncton, geographically, is a good place to set up camp. It's about 3-4 hours from Halifax, 3-4 hours from Fredricton and St. John, 3-4 hours from any place in Prince Edward Island. It has its own airport, train station, bus ways - in other words, anyone can get there, anyway.

It is, however, a shithole of a city.

The Maritimes has a pretty good tradition of wrestling history; my dad talks about Emille Dupree, the Vachons, etc. and Halifax has always been a good stop for the WWE to set up shows.

The East Coast makes more sense because its closer to NYC and WWE HQ than say Calgary or other Western cities

The Beast, Killer Kaller Krup, Leo Burke, "Big" Steven Pettipas, Rip Rodgers and most of all the Cuban Assasin. Leo Burke wrestling Poffo (Savage) for 60 minutes. Give me true professional wrestlers, not this WWE everyone look alike model crap. If the farm system can produce wrestlers like that then the future is indeed strong.

WP -- faintly remembers when people were talking about the British Bulldogs coming to Antigonish for World Grand Prix wrestling and being so skeptical (You know, you'd see those ads with wrestlers imitating other big time gimmicks) that I didn't believe it. I still don't know wether it's true or not but it was definitely possable at the time -- Yeah, there's a story and a lesson to be learnt here somewhere.

I loved seeing the ads for Maritime Wrestling Shows. They were so tacky and featured guys I never heard of.

Yeah, I loved looking at the ads too. Just the design of them I liked and seeing what wrestlers were on the card. The gimmicks they had were always interesting and I also liked to see if I knew who any of the wrestlers were.

We should start a World Grand Prix Prix thread on this board. Start talking about some real wrestling stories!

Another story (not online yet) in in today's business part of the same paper stating that Dupree's new school will be open iin November and they are working on getting the WWE to sign on as a farm system. A bit of a different tone then yesterday's story.

It also says that this is the second wrestling school in Moncton as a "Kardinal Sinners" school is getting ready to open up as well. Check it out here

spman: This is off topic...but seeing who Tenta is giving the splash to in that picture kinda brings a tear to the eye.

Back on topic though...I'm kinda hoping the other Dupree makes it into WWE. The sooner he gets in, the sooner the chance of Rene dumping Kenzo as a tag team partner.

I kind of liked the rumour that had Vince buying the Hart mansion and using it as a training school. Of course, we know the problems there don't we? Anyways, Vince's "schools" have not actually pushed out any legends like Austin, Flair, or Hogan has it? Brock and Angle are good, but don't have anything on the old school students from the Pipers to Shawn Michaels.

Of course, I am overlooking that great prospect Nidia aren't I?

When in the World did Ontario become a Western provice? That is an insult to us in the West.

Having formerly lived and wrestled in British Columbia, I can tell you that there was some sort of talk about the developmental system at one time.

The problem with most of the West is that (take BC for example) the majority of the large population is in a huge city (Vancouver) . Everything else is small towns with relatively small populations or poor economies that wrestling has already failed in.

I am sorry lumping Ontario in the Western provinces. I should have meant West of Ontario.

I know, especially considering it's quite likley that by this time next year, both men will have left us :(

Kind of like how the west is an insult to the rest of Canada?

But Randy Orton gets heat! Just wait another 5 years so he can learn how to do a headlock & finisher.
