LENNON'S KILLER IN NEW PAROLE HEARING

JOHN LENNON’s killer MARK CHAPMAN will appear before a parole board later this week in a bid to secure his freedom.

Chapman, 49, was sentenced to 20 years to life for shooting the former Beatle in the back outside his New York apartment on December 8, 1980.

A spokeswoman for the State of New York Division Of Parole told BBC News Online that Chapman is one of a number of prisoners set for parole hearings on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The appearance will be his third since he was sent to a separate facility in a maximum-security prison in Attica, New York state.

All his previous requests for release have been rejected.

Lennon's widow Yoko Ono is opposing his release along with 2,000 fans, who have signed an online petition campaigning for him to remain in prison for the rest of his natural life.

Ono, who was with Lennon when he was assassinated, has sent a letter to the parole board which says Chapman’s release would "bring back the nightmare, the chaos and the confusion once again".

Four years ago she also told a parole hearing that she would not feel safe if he was released.

Ono believes that Chapman remains a threat to the safety of her and Lennon's sons, Sean and Julian.

Chapman’s last bid for release in 2002 was rejected on the grounds that it would diminish the seriousness of his crime.

That reminds me.....*plays Imagine*

My mom is a huge Beatles fan. She cries everytime she hear Imagine and cried when George Harrison recently died. It really made me feel bad for her b/c she went on about how much they meant to her growing up and how there music has always been a part of her life.

(kkk mode) Okay, he killed a hippie, served most of his time--come on! Give the guy some slack! If it wasn't some famous celebrity he'd have been out in 2 years or less. :P

Am I the only one who thinks John Lennon was horribly overrated

Didn't deserve to die, of course, but he was still overrated

I'm on the same boat. For me, it was all about George and Paul. The only Lennon song I really like is "Instant Karma."

He should never be released for one simple reason.

He MISSED Yoko!

Not funny.

Anyways, I liked some of Lennon's solo stuff and didn't like some of it. I thought "Instant Karma" and "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night" were both great, though.

Guest The Decadent Slacker

I LOVE Lennon, but i don't think he's the end all be all. I enjoy him more as a star persona & character than as an artist, though the whole "Plastic Ono Band" album kicks ass. When he was on, he was on, as shown by his '67-'70 Beatles stuff.

EDIT: Murder jokes just aren't funny. Not me playing fanboy, just is truth. Now group suicide, that's amusing. And Chapman won't get parole, just like he didn't get it the other times.

No no, not kill her. She doesn't deserve to die. No one deserves to die over MUSIC, that's just insanity.

Maybe he could have hit her in the arm, or knee. Something that could have prevented her making music a little bit.

Things would have worked better if he used a dart gun.

I appreciate the shout-out, but that sounds more like something Rant would say.

Sure, he should be released. Him and Hinckley can go for walks in the park or something. I'm sure he said he's sorry by now...

LENNON KILLER STAYS BEHIND BARS

JOHN LENNON’s killer MARK CHAPMAN has been denied parole for the third time.

Chapman, 49, was sentenced to 20 years to life for shooting the former Beatle outside his New York apartment in December 1980.

A parole board decided yesterday (October 5) that Chapman remains unfit for release.

The board said that their decision to keep Chapman behind bars was because of the "extreme malicious intent" he had shown during the shooting, and that he had a "clear lack of respect for life".

The appearance was his third since he was sent to a separate facility in a maximum-security prison in Attica, New York state.

All his previous requests for release have been rejected.

Lennon's widow Yoko Ono opposed his release along with thousands of fans, who signed an online petition campaigning for him to remain in prison for the rest of his natural life.

Four years ago Ono told a parole hearing that she would not feel safe if he was released.

Ono believes that Chapman remains a threat to the safety of her and Lennon's sons, Sean and Julian.

Chapman’s last bid for release in 2002 was rejected on the grounds that it would diminish the seriousness of his crime.

No, way too many Beatleheads that will use all of their tree loving power to keep him behind bars, even though Lennon went to a Buddhist school and preached the benefits of loving everyone on Earth.
