1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 I saw several scenes just in the trailer that appeared directly ripped off from the Ring, including a very Samara-like character crawling down the steps, and the static flashing well known from the original as well. What's the deal with this flick?
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 I wasn't at all impressed with The Ring...but the Grudge looks creepy. I think I'll go see it.

1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2004 Just noticed another one. Showing the "evil longhaired chick" in a mirror on the wall. People I have talked to have thought this was the sequel to The Ring they look so similar.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2004 Just noticed another one. Showing the "evil longhaired chick" in a mirror on the wall. People I have talked to have thought this was the sequel to The Ring they look so similar. Cause they are very similiar. Just like Ringu and Ju-On were very similiar. I'm more pissed that the trailer is now revealing the ENTIRE movie. I hate that, I already know going in that nothing really cool is going to happen cause they have spoiled it all. I'm losing faith in this project very very quickly.

Okay, the only similarities I see between the two are the fact that they're Japanese and that they're ghosts. Other than that, Ringu uses a waterlogged female child. Ju-On uses an adult female and a male child, neither of which are waterlogged.

People I have talked to have thought this was the sequel to The Ring they look so similar. Cause they are very similiar. Just like Ringu and Ju-On were very similiar. They're both ghost stories, of course they're somewhat similar. Ring/Ringu was about a demonic child, whose ghost reaps it's revenge through a cursed video tape. Ju-on/The Grudge is about two poltergeists who haunt a house and massacre anyone who comes into contact with said house. I'm not talking about visuals, here, either. The look and tone of the original films are miles apart from eachother.
Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2004 ^^what he said. Besides the language and the fact that they are both ghost stories they're not very similar.
Special K 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2004 It must be noted that long haired women with the hair covering the face is sort of a standard in how the Japanese represent ghosts. What the trailer gave me is that it looks like a shot-by-shot remake of the first film. Ju-On, it must be noted is far scarier than the pussy Ringu and Ring (All right, Ringu had one GREAT scene) I agree that they show far too many of the scare moments of the film. dubq 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 The Grudge remake is pretty much a shot by shot remake of the original theatricl Ju-on movie. I believe they added some new stuff, though, as well as some tweaks to the story to explain why all of these American's are the focus of a story that takes place in Japan.
