sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 I thought the Braves moved Hampton up to Game 2 and are going to hold Thomson back for another couple of days. Brandon Backe will go in Game 3 for the Astros.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Hampton is going Game 2 and I think Ortiz is going Game 4. I'm so excited for this game. I'm gonna bail on class if our teacher keeps us past 3:
Guest Smues Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Ortiz is pitching game four? Fuck he's been terrible lately. I'm so tempted to skip class, but I really can't afford to so I'll miss the first hour in class, then another hour or so commutting, and get home in time for the end. Hopefully I don't get home in time to see them down 9-2.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 I'm on a plane during Game 2 and I might have to miss some of 3 and 4 so it's essential I see Game 1. Ortiz hasn't been great lately but he still won 15 games and is a damn good pitcher. I don't like that he's one of those guys that needs men on base and then he starts pitching effectively. It always worries me. I'm glad Cox is not going with a 3 man rotation. It never seems to work and I don't like guys going on 3 days rest.
Guest Smues Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Well, I guess I'll just be glad if we get to a game 4, so go Ortiz! I miss half of games 1 and 2 with class, but can catch 3 and 4 if it's played. If there's a 5 i'm sure they'll show it during class again, bastards. Ortiz just scares me though, he has been horrific the last month or so. If he can get his game back he could be great, but he hasn't shown any signs of it lately. But he's not until game 4, my current fear is we get a lead, and Reitsma has another melt down. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 I'm glad someone else noticed Chris Resuckma's tendency for blowing games. The Braves' middle relief has good stats but they scare me. Resuckma has a sub-4 ERA but it always seems like he is out there blowing games or cutting it really close. He's like Ortiz. Even though he hasn't been good at all to end the regular season- I still would've pitched Ortiz in the rotation. He did win 15 games and when he's on- he's on. I don't know if the Astros are going with a 4 or 3 man. I hope it's a 3 man cause I don't want to face Rocket in the event of a Game 5.
Guest Smues Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Reitsma did what many Braves relievers tend to do. Suck to start the season, get red hot in the middle and lower that era, then pitch like shit at the end of august and september. He had a couple decent outtings inbetween the suckage at the end, but he didn't show me any signs that he could be consistant again like he was in june/july. Smoltz feel apart in September as well, but not to the extent Reitsma did, and he seemed to pick it up again his last few outtings. Hopefully Roger gets a real stomach virus or something and the Braves can get a bunch of runs in early and not need relief to hold a tight lead, although if they did Alfonseca would be the man I'd pick at the moment, not Reitsma. Clemens would be in game 4 on short rest, Oswalt in game 5. As for whether they'll 3 or 4 guys: Phil Garner has said it depends on how the series is going, and how hard Clemens has to work today. If he throws a ton of pitches today, I don't think he'll be back on 3 days' rest, unless they're facing elimination.

Guest Wart Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Everett, who recently was activated from the disabled list after missing nearly two months with a broken left wrist, convinced general manager Gerry Hunsicker and manager Phil Garner that he was game-ready and did not need a full week of Instructional League. Apparently, two games were enough. "We talked about the pros and cons," Hunsicker said. "The question is, what are we going to gain by leaving him down there three more games? If we activate him, it gives us more versatility. If something happens to Vizcaino, Bruntlett is the only guy who can play shortstop without Adam here." Everett will not be thrust into a starting role immediately, but Hunsicker would not object to Garner giving the shortstop a start or two during the playoffs. For now, Everett will mainly pinch-run and enter games late for defensive purposes. http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/h...s_hou&fext=.jsp
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Andruw Jones batting behind Adam LaRoche? How the mighty have fallen. (Even with LaRoche being hot down the stretch.)
Guest Wart Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Astros score 4 in the 3rd inning thanks to an Ausmus solo home run, Bagwell rbi double, and Berkman 2 run home run. 4-1 Astros middle of the 3rd.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 I'm not watching the game, but for those who are: is Tim McClelland just putting a huge squeeze on Roger Clemens, or is Clemens just really off today? Clemens has six walks today.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 The Braves are absolutely infuriating me right now. They've had baserunners in every inning and can't get anything going. Of course, it's Clemens, but they've had runners in scoring position in every inning so far and they've only scored one run (which came without courtesy of a hit). Seems like they'll get a couple guys on with one out and then Clemens will get a big out that doesn't move the runners along.

Clemens has six walks today. He's just really off, which makes the fact that the Braves are drawing tons of walks and hitting the ball around but only have one run, all the more annoying. This game should probably be tied at the least right now.
Guest Smues Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Atlanta does that all the damn time. They're favorite trick is to get to 2 outs with nothing, then with 2 outs get 2 or 3 baserunners, and strand them.
Guest Smues Report post Posted October 6, 2004 And go figure I get out of class, turn on the radio, and it's 1-0 Atlanta and blame right then they say it's tied at 1. Before we're even off the freeway it's 4-1. bah
Guest Smues Report post Posted October 6, 2004 On the upside of all of this Clemens' pitch count is high and he's been inconsistent, I can hope Atlanta can string a big inning before he's pulled.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 This sucks. The Braves are so frustrating right now. 1st and 2nd 1 out- JD Drew pops up. COME ON. It's just one game and maybe they can put some runs together- but Rocket's given them a gift and they can't do shit with it.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Why is TSA posting in the baseball thread? This is game of wasted opportunities and the Braves are paying for it. They got the top of the order coming up in the 6th- they need to get something done off the Houston bullpen.
