NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2004 I know going into it, it isn't AS GOOD as the first one, but if it is HALF as good as the original it will still kick major ass.

Guest ArchoanJB Report post Posted October 7, 2004 I didn't like the 2nd one. It was just boring shooting for an hour. Wherease the first one's violence had a purpose and was creative, this was just random shooting for an hour, then some storytelling, then more random shooting. Maybe I need to watch it again but I was really disappointed by it.
redbaron29 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2004 When I read in the topic you just ordered i, I figured i'd stop in and tell you how sorry I am for you. It's really not that bad of a movie, but when you expect it to be as good as the orignal, you will be dissapointed. The biggest problem with this movie is it doesnt even follow the same plot device as the previous movie.

Guest M. Harry Smilac Report post Posted October 7, 2004 The GOOD- The great symphony music returns. One of the students is the daughter of Kitano the teacher from part 1 and they tie in the phone call he makes at the end. A cameo by Sonny Chiba. Nice body count and a couple decent battle scenes. The BAD- The new student main character they brought in is one of the most annoying over-the-top snarling whiney bitches ever and your expected to like this character. The new teacher is played by Riki Takeuchi who normally isn't that bad but just takes it to a new level of over-the-top.You will probably find your self unintentionally dying of laughter when you get to his final scene in the movie. The reference to the USA as "that country".The first movie had balls and that just shows how much this one doesn't. It's a shame Fukasaku died before he could really get going on this cause it probably would have been alot better. If you could i'd say cancel your order for this and get one of his classics like Graveyard of Honor or Yakuza Graveyard instead although it's probably too late. Guest M. Graveyard of Honor is a movie based on a real life gangster that is probably one of the more infamous ones in Japan.Think of him as their version of Al Capone. His character is a total bastard though and it can be tuff for yourself to like a character that basically romances his love interest by raping her and generally makes decisions that only make things harder for him instead of easy.Theirs also a massive amount of characters godfather style so if your not familiar with old school japanese actors or good with faces it can be tuff to follow at times. Their's a amazing looking region 1 dvd of it that just came out. Yakuza Graveyard is one of my all time favorites. The first time I saw it I thought it was just alright but it's really grown on me since. Not as good an ending as GoH but overall I like it alot more. It's basically about a cop who is a total badass and how his crooked superiors side with a gang that is opposed to one he eventually becomes tight with. Sadly theirs only a super shitty looking UK dvd of this that you can easily find a boot of on ebay. Their probably the best two i've seen aside from Battle Royale but I haven't seen the Yakuza Papers series yet, but soon.Less then two weeks till the boxset drops!! edotherocket 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2004 Did you end up seeing it Mike? Personally, I thought BRII was one of the worst films I've seen this year.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2004 eh, honestly, yes it was a dissapointment. I think they just tried to make it all too complex with the whole war vs. the adults. My other problem is that because the nature of this movie, every death was basically either from the collar or a bullet, not like in the original when half the fun was seeing how the next person got iced. Also, if you were terrorists, why would you isolate yourselves on an island, where any government with the capability, could just send missles your way and take you out!?! The original is one of my favorite movies ever, the 2nd is well.....ugh.
