JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Post your thoughts about this show here. Have you seen it? What do you think of it? What are the best and worst matches? Any other thoughts? We've done Halloween Havoc 1994 and Survivor Series 1989 so far...and today's pay per view is WCW Hog Wild 1996. This is obviously a key pay per view for WCW, as it was the first after the nWo angle went down at Bash at the Beach. Hogg Wild 1996 August 10, 1996 in Sturgis, SD Sturgis Rally & Race drawing 5,000 ($0) Shown live on PPV (0.62) # WCW Cruiserweight Champ Rey Misterio, Jr. pinned Ultimate Dragon (11:35). # Scott Norton beat Ice Train (5:05) via submission. # Madusa pinned Bull Nakano (5:00). # Chris Benoit pinned Dean Malenko (26:55). # WCW Tag Champs Harlem Heat beat Rick & Scott Steiner (17:53) when Booker T pinned Scott. # WCW U.S. Champ Ric Flair pinned Eddie Guerrero (14:14). # Scott Hall & Kevin Nash beat Lex Luger & Sting (14:36) when Hall pinned Luger. # Hulk Hogan pinned The Giant (14:55) to win the WCW World Title. MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 I marked hard for The Giant hulking up on Hogan. And just an opinion, maybe you should only post 1-2 shows per week. After a week or two, 7-14 shows will probably become overkill.
Guest Loss Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Benoit v Malenko was a classic for the ages that, sadly, the live audience refused to give a chance. Rey v Ultimo was a good encounter, although they'd have a far better match at World War 3. What makes that match an interesting one for Rey, though, is that his dives outside of the ring are even more dangerous than normal because the ring is elevated. strummer 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Commentary was great here. Bobby Heenan and the "Sea of Heads" and Dusty's reaction When Benoit comes out for his match with Woman and Liz: Heenan: (talking about Woman) Wow, look at those gams!" Dusty : Yams!? What yams?! Tony: No, gams, legs,... she's got nice legs (holding back laughter)

algrim 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 I remember the Flair-Guerrero bout not being as good as I expected. Flair's workrate was horrible.
Guest Loss Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Flair/Eddy would have been the good _start_ to a feud that eventually saw Eddy beat him and take the title that could have culminated at Starrcade '96. The problems were that: (a) Flair was injured and (b) No long-term thought was put into anything except the NWO
Just John 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 This show had about the widest range of good and bad matches on any single card. Benoit/Malenko is one of the most overlooked matches ever. I would give it **** 1/2 easy. The crowd doesn't affect it. And while they weren't into that match, they were HOT for the Steiners/Harlem Heat match. Benoit/Malenko ruled, and Rey/Ultimo was at least *** 1/2. The ME was pretty bad and Norton/Train was terrible. The rest of the matches were varying degrees of average. To be fair there were a few cheers when the overtime period was announced but they were than overwhelmed by boos so there were at least a few good fans out there. Loved the outdoor venue and how it changed from day into night. The worst crowd ever! Ever!
