How are the Yankees getting RJ now?

Its not like our farm system got any better since July.

He's sending the entire team over to Arizona. EVERYONE.

That's not fair. Four or so of them have earned the right to play another year.

Moose, Lieber, Bernie and?

Mussina and Lieber.

Who else?

Bernie i guess but he's retiring anyways.

Loaiza amazingly made himself worthy to survive George's wrath.

Mussina's an ass, so I could care less. I still haven't forgiven him for the '93 All-Star Game.

CITO SUCKS! CITO SUCKS! CITO SUCKS~!

Actually, I was in the section (right behind home plate, w00t~!) that started that chant at the '93 ASG. The four guys behind us started, then my boss and I joined in. Soon, the whole section was chanting it, and then it spread to the stadium. Within days, "Cito Sucks" T-shirts were available outside Camden Yards.

Mussina was getting some work in. Gaston could've tossed the home fans a bone and brought him in, if only to face one bloody hitter. But your boy was too much of a jackass and thought he's gotten "shown up," so he doesn't. Who doesn't play the home players in an ASG? Stupid assholes like Cito Gaston, that's who. Fuck him, I'm glad he can't get a job in baseball.

As for Mussina, I honestly can't fault him for going to New York. He'd given the Orioles the "hometown discount" on his previous contract, drawing flack from his agent and some others players (I know either Glavine or Maddux were quite outspoken about it -- I think it was Glavine, since he was the Braves' union rep). He let them know that would not be the case on his new contract. So the Orioles ignored that and lowballed him the entire time. When it became clear he was [i[thisclose[/i] to signing with the Yankees, the O's upped their offer, but it was still below NY's bid. Note that they pulled the same tactic on Rafael Palmeiro when he left after the 1997 season, also. It's Angelos' fault those two guys left town; the Orioles should have locked them up for life.

Why would you keep him anyways?

Why would you keep him anyways?

Because he tried.

If they're lucky, Giambi might retire because the steroid withdra... sorry, benign tumor has left him so weak and shitty. Of course, he should stick around and continue to be ineffective while counting for about $18 million in totally unmoveable salary. Ha ha. Yep, free agency sure is the best way to go...

I've had more than my fill of Javier Vazquez after his top notch damage control effort last night. 2-0, even 3-0 gives us hope. So he throws a meatball to a guy who couldn't hit off a tee for six games.

You know, I just really don't find that as cute as everyone else does

I never thought I'd wish Loaiza at that spot rather than Vazquez.

WHERE THE FUCK WAS DUQUE?

Were we saving him for Game Eight?

The A-Rod article is hilarious.  How about clutch god Derek Jeter hitting .200?  He escapes blame free?

How about Sheff's .071 heading into Game 7?

As a Braves fan- I could've told you that was gonna happen.

Ditto.

Ohmygod. We really have turned into the Atlanta Braves.

Nah, it will take another 8 years of choking before that level.

Cut your team salary in half and maybe we'll get back to you.

Yea-

Watching Sheff losing the ability to hit after Game 3 was very nice to see since he's the player on the Yankees I hate the most.

If Sheff hit the way he did in the first round and Games 1-3 for the Braves- we wouldn't have lost in the first round.

He can go fuck himself

I actually thought the same.

Heck, I would rather have had Moose on 4 hours rest than Vazquez.

You were going to choke anyways. Sheff just went ahead and made himself the goat for you to blame.

I would have dragged Lieber's caracass out there.

You should have just thrown Mel Sottlyemare out instead.

I think this weekend's collapse is equivalent to everything the Braves could've possibly done wrong in the past fourteen years.

1 Championship in 13 or whatever years is far worse.

Really. The Yanks 4 in 8 is so much better.

The Braves have choked but at least they let you know of their intentions beforehand.

They've never even blown a series with 3 wins. Came close to it in 1998 but thank you Kenny Rogers

The worse they did was when 1996 when they had 2-0 on the Yankees.

That's not as bad as what happened over the last 4 days.

Those teams were different. What happened last night was the collapse of the Yankees.

I watched that game in stunned silence just staring at the TV. I still don't believe the last 4 days really happened.

Posted

Yeah I was pretty stunned too. But just think for a second how bad it is to make the playoffs each and every year and only come out of it with only one title. It's not like the NBA where there are 8 teams, but only 4. It was bound to happen sometime (the 3-0 blown series).

Posted

I don't care that their 1 for 13. That one title is everything to me.

People can criticise the Braves all they want but I'm sure there are many teams who would love to be in that position every year to win it all and have that one title.

I want them to win again just to erase J-- L----- and everything that has gone wrong since Mark Wohlers lost his mind but seeing them one title is a feeling I'll never forget.

If they had blown that 3-0 cushion to the Mets (Thank you again Kenny Rogers) I don't know if I'd ever be able to watch baseball again. Living in NY at the same time wouldn't have helped.

Posted

I'm devastated. But i'll get over it as soon as we win a title. Which I hope will be in the near future. But one title out of 13 pretty much kills the point of making the playoffs in the first place. Kind of like a jobber.

Posted

I don't think so. People throw 1 for 13 around but winning 1 World Series is an accomplishment in itself. It's not a foregone conclusion that you'll win the World Series just by winning the title.

They give you hope every year and even though they have failed the past three years, the fact that there is always hope is enough for me.

And seeing Boston celebrate to New York New York pretty much takes the pain of Chris Resuckma away

Posted

It's not like being a jobber, because the World Series is the main event. It's like being a former champion who's getting cycled in and out of the top spot.
