Guest Cerebus Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Whoops did I say Bush, I really meant John "Backdoor Draft" Kerry. Oh no! It looks like the link is down! Could it be because it would hurt Kerry's chance to wallow in the condesending demagoguery of scaring young people from voting for the Draft Loving Bush? Nah. Don't worry though, you can read the real deal here. As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes requiring mandatory service for high school students and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service. MANDATORY SERVICE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS * Service Should Be a Graduation Requirement: John Kerry believes that knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship - including the duty to serve your community - are as important to American adults as knowing how to read and do math. Combined with a curriculum that teaches students about democracy, citizenship and civic participation, this high school service requirement will be a rite of passage for every young person in the country. As President, John Kerry will ensure that every high school student in America does community service as a requirement for graduation.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Too bad this "military service" will probably consist of being a crossing guard or something. And while we're on this subject, am I the only one who finds it odds that MTV and Big Media aren't mentioning who is trying to enact the draft right now? I'd mark out if Bush would say "I will not let Democrats bring back the draft!..."
Swift Terror Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 And while we're on this subject, am I the only one who finds it odds that MTV and Big Media aren't mentioning who is trying to enact the draft right now? I'd mark out if Bush would say "I will not let Democrats bring back the draft!..." repeat a lie often enough... If Bush proposed this, it would be described as a "disturbing, jingoistic indoctrination initiative reminiscent of Hitler's Germany..."

But, according to Halperin, Kerry doesn't tell lies to try and win this election... -=Mike

How much more reliable can you get?! Well, in Chrono's defense, it IS Kerry's website. You never know what he'll say. -=Mike ...I'm shocked Chrono didn't KNOW this was part of Kerry's policy, as I was aware of it back in August.

How much more reliable can you get?! Websites can be faked. There was a big shit going down with the neo-con's here a few weeks ago about a website that's domain name was completely opposed to it's actual content. Like I said, until independent verification comes forth, this is bullshit, nothing more. [EDIT]-I did a little checking, and the "John Kerry USA Flag" header from that "draft page" is completely different from the header on every other page on the official John Kerry/John Edwards website. Look for yourself: That's the fake^ That's the real one^ You can even check the url, and see that they are different. Next bullshit, please.
Guest Cerebus Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 From someone's "Anti-Bush" page, another "All American Patriots" website, oh and here's another page from Kerry's website. 7. Launch a new era of national service Click on the "blueprint" link. See where it takes you. I think you may be pleasently surprised.

I doubt anything will convince him --- and God knows Kerry will never utter it publicly. It was mentioned, REGULARLY, in conservative circles months ago. Before the "Bush wants a draft" crap started. Kerry was smart enough to delete that page and re-do it when those rumors started up. -=Mike

Did it ever to occur to you that maybe the pages are running on different resolutions, resulting in the differnet banners? Or no? Edit: Jesus, actually how do we know it's simply not an update? Seriously, a change in the banners does not really equal IRREFUTABLE PROOF OF FORGERY.

All those people are saying Bush is going to restart the draft. It must be true![/sarcasm] Hilariously enough, there isn't one reference link to BUSH'S ACTUAL SITE, which, well, Cerebus actually sort of found, along with Kerry supporter sites saying the exact same thing. Of course, this is probably a bit too complex for ya, I guess. Oh well, let's put your blinders back on...
Guest Cerebus Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Here's some more: A discussion from April of this year which links to the, now dead, page. A youth page also links to it and mentions it has been taken down. Also, the best answer to your question is that they re-did their website.

2GOLD Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 This is old news actually. I myself am tired of Democratic supporters claiming "BUSH WILL BRING BACK THE DRAFT" when the only party that purposed the return was the Democratic party. Also, the plan as well as the draft actual never had anything to do with the war to begin with. It's meant to be a balancing factor since it is of common belief that only poor children join the military while the upper class who can afford college do not even consider the military. The plan is designed to even the playing field by forcing all high school students into the military before college. Course, they never explain what this would do to college costs since most university would see this as a reason to boast tutition even more.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 As opposed to Academia boosting tuition already?...
2GOLD Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 As opposed to Academia boosting tuition already?... Well yeah, but the last thing we need is for the government to GIVE them an excuse. Before it was just because they are greedy assholes. This would give them a defense so they wouldn't look like the greedy assholes they are. Basically.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 They'd just say the increase in tuition was Republicans trying to hold back minorities.

Doing ANYTHING to cut tuition rates through gov't funds only leads administrations to skyrocket their fees again, since they can always find the money. -=Mike

They all sound wonderful until you actually realize what the hell they would cost and what kind of backlash they would receive. Leaving Colleges bare for two years may be the stupidest idea the US government would ever think of. And if anyone thinks a college student will really love the idea of making time for National Guard duty on weekends to go along with College then you are crazy as crazy can be.
Guest MikeSC Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Sadly, the only way I can think of to cut tuition rates down to where they BELONG would be for gov't to divest itself, offer no aid, and let colleges deal with virtually no enrollment whatsoever. With virtually no income, they'll have to fix their business model --- and, rest assured, colleges are little more than businesses. -=Mike

Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I think colleges love nothing more than to waste money. My friend works at the Ohio State library and it's insane what they'll pay for a science journal subscription. I mean there's no need to drop 10k on 5 journals that 4 students will need a few times.
