Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 This is the first I've heard of this film, and it sounds just a bit odd. http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30500-13217883,00.html Nicole Kidman had to endure boos and jeers at the premiere of her new film in Venice - as well as a verbal swipe from co-star Lauren Bacall. A chorus of displeasure, mainly from the audience of journalists, echoed around the hall at the preview screening of Birth. Kidman plays a woman in the film who thinks her dead husband has been reincarnated in the body of a 10-year-old boy. In one scene they are both naked in the bath - and in another they share a kiss on the lips. Kidman defended the film, saying: "There was something in this woman I felt I understood and knew. "I responded to this woman who was in mourning. It wasn't that I wanted to make a film where I kiss a 10-year-old boy. I wanted to make a film where you understand love. I read a lot of scripts and this is the one that spoke to me." After receiving a hostile reception from the critics, the Oscar-winning actress then suffered a dressing down from Bacall. Hollywood veteran Bacall, 79, who plays her mother in the film, took exception when a journalist described Kidman as a "screen legend" during a tense news conference. "She's not a legend," Bacall snapped, "she's a beginner. "What is this legend? She can't be a legend at whatever age she is. She can't be a legend, you have to be older." Sincerely, ...Downhome... bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 The film looks really upsetting and disturbing. If it comes to my arts theatre I might check it out but I don't really like Nicole Kidman
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 This is just creepy. I watched the trailer for it and was like "Oh, no they won't", and apparently they will. ... They're letting her do her American accent. *Shudders*
Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted October 27, 2004 After receiving a hostile reception from the critics, the Oscar-winning actress then suffered a dressing down from Bacall. She can't be a legend, you have to be older." For what it's worth, since this is indeed a little old now, both Bacall and Kidman are on record as saying Bacall's comments were taken out of context. It was at a press junket and Bacall was basically sniping at the reporter piling needless pressure and accolades on someone so young (i.e. not "she's not a legend because she ain't shit", but "why does she have to be called a legend? Why does she have to be called anything? Stop hassling the poor girl"). Indeed, Bacall said on Parkinson that you cant be a legend until you're dead, which sounds fair to me. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 I'd like to know what Kidman has done to even be considered in the running for the title of legend to begin with. What? Days of Thunder?

Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted October 27, 2004 shut up dude, that movie rules. I think that it would be nice to see some women finally admitting to wanting to get it on with little boys, after us men have been so unfairly persecuted for wanting to nail little girls. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I refuse to watch this movie, I'm totally digusted and offended by the plot of the movie, not only is it just plain dumb (Seriously, Nicole, what the fuck have you been snorting lately?), but it might as well be a movie based on Mary Kay Letourneau. Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Boy I love our society where people go apeshit over a fake movie scene involving a woman kissing a boy And why is Kidman getting all the heat? I'm pretty sure there are other people responsible for this movie, unless, ya know, she wrote the script and set up all the cameras and all the lights and the studio, all so she could get her mack on with a ten year old boy God you people are stupid

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 For those that don't know the plot Husband dies. Kid is born. Flash forward 10 yrs, Boy shows up, basically talking and acting like dead hubby. Wifey starts to buy it. Hilarious hi-jinks ensues. "Lolita" with Jeremy Irons got sent to hell so I don't see why this movie isn't going to get the same treatment. Do I care? Nope, so Kidman kisses a boy. Big deal. She doesn't toss him on the bed and start riding him for god sake. I'm more confused how Kidman and legend even popped up in the same sentence.
