Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 Down at my Local EBGames, they're having a special on trading in consoles. Trade in any console and 5 games, and get up to $150. Now I have a GameCube, and with this deal I can get $100 which I was planning, along with the rest of my my Gamecube Library (14 games total), to put towards a PS2. Most of the games I have are pretty much cross-platform games, so replacing them is not a problem. So the question I pose to you, my fellow SmartMark'ers is should I go thru with this deal? I really like my GameCube, but there are a lot of games I miss playing that are only on PS2.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 Get the PS2. Thank us later.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 Sell the games and system online. You're better off, unless the games are pretty much ones not many people would want. EB almost never gives you any decent trade-in deals. Remember that they usually say "non-sport," too and you don't get full credit unless you have instructions and everything. I sold my GC and some games, but only the "leftover" games were included. I had several more GC games--good titles too--that I sold already i.e. Viewtiful Joe for 20, Zelda Collection and Wind Waker for about 30 bucks each, Mario Sunshine for 15, Prime and the strat guide for 25.... That's over 100 bucks right there, not including the system. Of course, at this point those titles would probably be worth less, but still you're probably better off. Check what half.com and Ebay have as the main prices for those games. If you'd only be able to sell 5 of the games for about 10 bucks each, do the trade in. As for the PS2--I'd get one (as abominable as 90% of the game library is, it's still got probably the best actually number of good titles), but you may as well wait until the "PStwo" is out unless you really want the hard drive. It will save you the cost of the network adapter (if you're thinking of playing online) plus it's smaller and easier to find room for. If the PStwo doesn't sound appealing, with it will come a cheaper price on the existing PS2 units. You don't need to get the PS2 right away.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 Wait until December and demand cash instead of gifts then use that money on the new mini PS2. Do not waste your time on the old model which will self destruct in a few weeks if you get a used one. Keep the GC and get the Gameboy Player.......if you need store credit take 8 of the lamest dvds you own to the local Blockbuster to trade in for the hardware and games. Then look thru the used game section of Game Rush and buy any or all of these games: Fire Pro, Final Fight One, Metroid Zero Mission, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, Phantasy Star Collection. the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 New mini PS2 is already out, that thing is fucking small. Picked up one Monday when my old one finally gave out (not bad considering I got one during the 1st month PS2 was out)

Do not waste your time on the old model which will self destruct in a few weeks if you get a used one. EB offers a warranty for a year (maybe even 2 years...) on used stuff, and they fix up the broken systems before reselling them. I still say if you keep your system unplugged when not using it, keep the lens clean, and it wasn't one of the crappy first-run PS2s, your system should last a while: 3 years already and going strong with my PS2 that I bought used in September '01. razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 But the price difference between new and used is what $30 now?
Coolclint 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 About this deal... It's not non-sports games only. I did the deal with some 2002 sports games, they give $10 on the deal, instead of the .38 you're going to get without it. You have to have the original box and instruction manual, that's all. Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 GTA:SA and SVR this holiday season (GTA is just out now, actually) is more than enough reason to go through with this deal. Does Nintendo have anything planned for X-Mas? Seems Sony has SVR & GTA and Microsoft has Halo 2, but I've no clue what Nintendo has planned to compete with that. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Good to see their guns fully loaded as well. While not technically holiday release game, don't for get about Resident Evil 4 on January 11th. Its a shame they couldn't release the game a few weeks earlier. I'm looking to get MP2 and Viewtiful Joe 2 (which of course is also on the PS2...). For the record, I would never advocate selling a gamecube. Find other ways to come up with the money to buy a PS2.
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Dude, don't sell your Cube when we're so close to Metroid Prime 2's release date. Give it a month.
nogoodnick 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 GTA:SA is a must have. My recommendation however is to just buy a PS2 and have both.

Plus the Cube doesn't have as much loading times.
