Smarkish Comments

Recommended Posts

Reading the D'von thread got me thinking...

At the last NHB show that I attended, there was a heel tag team "From India". Someone in the crowd yelled out "You're not even from India, you're from Winnipeg!" while they were cutting a promo.

I don't really think that something like that is appropriate. They are playing a character, and people should respect that character and go along with it.. It's all just a show.. being a smark at a show is like going to watch a movie and pointing out everything that's wrong with it, it just sucks the fun right out of it.

Anyone agree/disagree?

It's the only way a smark can get a reaction, as most of us are lonley, deprived, loveless shells of men.

And we don't have families.

Nor girlfriends.

And we suck.

I wouldn't give them too much though (unlike what I've seen from some RoH fans, who are seemingly obsessed with fan behaviour).

They have their place (the more smark-oriented promotions, namely RoH and maybe even IWS and CZW), and there are times when they're not needed at all (the "YOU FUCKED UP" chant during somebody SLIGHTLY slipping but still managing to hit the move perfectly), but they're welcome at times. I routinely chant semi-smark comments at NECW shows every time I go, and I'll be damned if the wrestlers and non-wrestling staff don't enjoy them. I keep them clean, I don't chant "HEEL TURN COMING UP" if I see it coming, but I do try my best to add a little smark flavor to the fans in attendance.

:headbang:

I disagree. While watching on television, (and at a live event) with my dad, we had some fun, saying things like "Why is the referee allowing this?" Why not have some fun? It seems like common sense that wrestling is planned.

It all depends, if the booker books like shit, you should have a blast with ur buds blasting the show.

But that particular comment would get a shut the fuck up by me and my friends in a heart beat.

At the Pac Cup this year (A Junior Tourney up here in BC) some kid yelled boring 2 minutes into the first match. I yelled at him to fuck off and the crowd laughed and clapped. Comments have their place.

Some comments are ok, some are just stupid.

Example: At the last ROH show in Dayton, some kid (who was sitting WAY in the back) kept taunting Roderick Strong with "I saw you lose to AJ on IMPACT!" Shit like that is retarded, and I'll gladly tell someone.

It's not even that the "you fucked up" chant is bad...it's just that fans over-use it for any MINORLY blown spot. It was originally used when a spot was blown and ruined the complete flow of the match. Now, it's used whenever somebody stumbles but still hits the move perfectly. Hell, there have been "you fucked up" chants during matches where a wrestler slips on the ropes because they were selling a hurt knee. This is a case of fans trying to be impressive because they're acting like smarks, but coming across as idiots.

I have similar feelings towards the "HOLY SHIT!" chants. I hate when the crowd does this for things that are not surprising, shocking or major.

I know that does really have anything to do with "Smarkish Comments" but it just got me to thinking.
