bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 Larry the Cable Guy in a Pixar movie is awesome. Chicken Little stars Zach Braff and Steve Zahn, I think. Don Knotts is in it too. Awesome. So is Amy Sedaris and Joan Cusack. I hate how Dreamworks gets every big star they can think of and throws him in a cartoon. Pixar doesn't get huge A-list names but they fit their characters and work perfectly
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted November 6, 2004 Shrek 2 was all about Shrek and Fiona and I just couldn't care about them enough to sustain my interest in the movie. It just dragged a lot. And the movie lacked Faarquad It wouldn't have made much sense for Farquaad to be in Shrek 2, but I get your point. Most of the characters in Shrek 2 didn't interest me very much. The Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming weren't exactly good villains. Puss In Boots was probably the only character I liked. Anyone else love the cartoon short right before it? I thought it was so cute and funny Which cartoon short are you talking about?

Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I also loved the short film before The Incredibles. I was also VERY impressed with the hair in this film. I noticed it instantly, but then again it'd be hard not to notice it. I couldn't help but pay attention to that aspect throughout the entire film. This animated film just felt so full of life. I thought it was so cute and funny Which cartoon short are you talking about? Faarquad and Donkey were the best parts of Shrek 1. Donkey got castrated with Shrek's Am I Good Enough for Fiona complex. Of course they did this- IN THE FIRST FUCKING MOVIE. I thought Prince Charming would rock thanks to Everett but the whole thing with the Fairy Godmother was just stupid. The movie was just too dramatic and it required me to care about Shrek and Fiona when I don't and never did. Shrek worked because it was bitingly funny and wasn't afraid to take potshots at anyone. I hope if Shrek 3 what's rumoured (Something about Shrek and Donkey being knights of the roundtable) they just stick to them two having fun and ripping on Disney

The animation is just fun to watch
Guest Shutterspeed Report post Posted November 6, 2004 While we're on the subject, who has the Monsters Inc. DVD and has seen the animated short "For the Birds"? Great animation and great fun.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I remember it- That was pretty good. Oh and if Disney goes ahead and makes Toy Story 3 w/o Pixar- someone dies
Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 Yes, For the Birds is pretty good also. I'll just say I like all of Pixar's work up to this point. They haven't let me down yet.
Tawren 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 First off, I hated that "Bounding" crap before the movie. What the hell was that? Next: the Incredibles. HORRIBLE is one word I can use to describe the comedic moments - they sucked. I laughed ONCE in this movie: "You'll miss his graduation!" "It's not a graduation! He's moving from Grade 4...to Grade 5!" All the other "funny" moments made me want to puke. Aside from that, the serious moments of the movie were fantastic. The chase through the jungle, the first fight against the Omnidroid, and the final battle (or most of it) were great. The musical score throughout the entire movie was GREAT. GREAT. Love it. The movie got too cutesy for me several times. I don't need to see Dash giggling about how great the vacation was or Sindro being beat up by the baby. I HATED THOSE PARTS. God. The characters could have been built up a lot more, but they really wanted the kids to laugh so they tossed out so much pointless "funny" stuff that it made me sick. I really liked what I saw as the three main themes of the movie: love, unity, and doing the right thing. I think they could have done a lot more with Sindro and the doing the right thing theme, because he wasn't that evil, just misguided - he wanted to be a hero. Instead, the baby beat him. LMAO! LOL! ROFL! Woop-dee-doo. Great serious/action parts + fantastic animation and voices + fantastic music + overall coolness - dumb comedy = great. But + dumb comedy = decent. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I thought the movie wasn't cutesy enough and at times was too serious and dark. The scene at the beginning where the lawyer sues Mr. Incredible or at the end when they make Dash slow down so they're not exposed were hilarious.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 Looks like a good flick, but I swear DH calls nearly every new movie he sees the "best" something. Would you rather me bitch about all the things I hate? I could do that you know, but then I'd be not unlike so many others. When I go to the theater and pay my $7, I make sure to the best of my ability that what I watch, I'm going to like, at least a little bit. I stay away from things that that just flat out look like they'll be horrible. But when I end up going to see a piece of shit, I call it. The Village - POS The Day After Tomorrow - POS Alien Vs. Predator - POS The Grudge - POS Fahrenheit 9/11 - POS Van Helsing - POS Resident Evil: Apocalypse - POS The Forgotten - POS Garfield: The Movie - POS And when I see a truly great film, I call it also. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Great Garden State - Great The Incredibles - Great Shaun of the Dead - Great Collateral - Great Ray - Great The Passion of the Christ - Great All of the above are just off the top of my head, there are plenty of others that I liked and disliked. I'd just rather talk about things I thought was great, more often than talk about things I think are shit. Still, when I hate something enough, like all the movies I listed as a POS, I make it more than known, and have done so here.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I thought the movie wasn't cutesy enough and at times was too serious and dark. That's the main reason I liked it so much I do believe. Just because it's Pixar does not mean it can't be a bit serious and dark. This one ain't rated PG just for the hell of it.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I know- at times it seemed a bit too dark for me. I invited my teacher and his 3 year old son to come to the screening but he held off worried about the violence- he was right.
Guest Shutterspeed Report post Posted November 6, 2004 The Village - POS The Day After Tomorrow - POS Alien Vs. Predator - POS The Grudge - POS Fahrenheit 9/11 - POS Van Helsing - POS Resident Evil: Apocalypse - POS The Forgotten - POS Garfield: The Movie - POS I enjoyed Fahrenheit 9/11 and The Day After Tomorrow. Sure, they were biased as hell and extremely far-fetched respectively, that goes without saying, but they were worth my money. The rest were throw-away, except Garfield - it was just plain offensive. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Great Garden State - Great The Incredibles - Great Shaun of the Dead - Great Collateral - Great Ray - Great The Passion of the Christ - Great Yep. All quality viewing. Hey Bob, expect Shrek 3 in 2006 too. Sans Disney, as expected.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 Fahrenheit 9/11 - POS Agreed- I was talking to a classmate whose a huge liberal, hates Bush etc. and even she agreed with me on a lot of the flaws of the movie. Moore jumped all over the place and just kept bombarding the viewer with Bush is bad stuff instead of focusing on a few issues and making a real point. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Great Agreed. Jim Carrey blew me away- I was rooting for his character so much. Such a frustrating movie- in a good way. Garden State - Great The last 15-20 minutes just kill it for me. I still liked it a lot but come on DH- didn't you hate the ending? Oh and I can't buy Natalie Portman as a 20+ year old. Collateral - Great Agreed- saw it thrice in the theatre. A couple plot holes I didn't like but me and this usher I worked with discussed the movie so much that we both fell in love with it. Tom Cruise was terrific. The Passion of the Christ - Great This movie deeply disturbed me and affected me greatly emotionally. But because of the violence I don't want to see it again
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I know- at times it seemed a bit too dark for me. Where was it too dark? Really, even the fight scenes had some humor (attempts) tossed in. The part where the guy jumped off the building was kind of 'Whoa' for me. And the stuff where the mom said the bad guys would kill them. Some of the scenes where Mr. Incredible was being tied up and he kept wanting to get away. I need to see it again because the first time I saw it I was on 4 hrs sleep b/c of Election Day
Guest Smues Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I just got back from seeing this, great fucking movie. I'm not a huge Toy Story fan, so for me The Incredibles ranks right up top with Finding Nemo for best Pixar movie. Probably a tie. Maybe The Incredibles get #1 because Craig T. Nelson owns and is from my city. Cars on the other hand looks like crap and I don't know if I'll bother to watch it ,it just looked horrible. It was like they took the Chevron commercials and decided to make them into a movie. Whoopy. The Episode III trailer got me pumped to see it, but I really fear being let down. As great as it looks, I have a feeling Anakin is going to ruin it for me. That and George Lucas the magic CGI man.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 Like I said before, if there is any fault with this film in my eyes, it's the simple fact that if felt too short, even at 121 minutes. It's pretty rare for me to not want a film to end. The only times that happens with me is when it's something I just fall totally into, and this one did it for me. When I noticed the end was coming up, it had to drag me kicking and screaming, heh. I felt like a kid in a candy store whose mom was yanking them by the arm pulling them out away from the sweets. Mole 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I can't agree anymore how much Shrek 2 is overrated. I'm still pissed off that it is the third highest grossing film ever.
Ted the Poster 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 The overabundant pop culture gags in Shrek 2 were its most obvious flaw. Although the O.J. and COPS gags mad me laugh. The Spiderman thing however, made me sick. I think we can all agree though that Antonio Banderas and Jennifer Saunders CARRIED that movie. I'll prbobably see Cars for LTCG. I just hope Owen Wilson shows some of his rarely seen emotion.
