Arrested Development Season 2

Recommended Posts

Mattdotcom, that is indeed very strange.

The following bit from The Simpsons tonight had me bust out loud laughing.

"I'm turning this disco into a hockey rink!"

"You mean a HONKEY rink!"

why does every thread turn into a Simpsons debate? This thread is for a show that is still relevant and consistantly funny.

Yeah that Simpsons was baaad. I can't stand Lisa at all.

The only joke I sort of liked was the neighborhood's reaction to Homer's sex talk, and even then it was a half laugh.

Hopefully they bust out another (close to) great episode like they did with "The President Wore Pearls" last season.

I'm suprised noone has mentioned that last night's Simpsons was just "$pringfield" re-written.

"$pringfield":

Marge has obsession(gambling)

Bart has a club in treehouse(casino)

A celeb in treehouse(Robert Goulee)

Lisa is the reason Marge becomes un-obsessed.

Last Night:

Marge has obsession(cooking & cheating)

Bart has a club in treehouse(Playdude)

A celeb in treehouse(James Caan)

Lisa is the reason Marge becomes un-obsessed.

And in both Bart took an adult thing and made it for kids.

"I heard zoo noises."

In the history of TV, that is one of the greatest lines ever.

The blue circle is classic also.

Tobias blending in everywhere.

The "Mission Accomplished" banner on the house.

Job's music playing out of nowhere as he unleahses the pennies all over the table as he shouts "TWO WEEKS, LET'S DO IT IN TWO WEEKS, HEY!" had me rolling, oh my God that got me.

Bah, I can't list everything is great from each AD episode, there are just so many.

Is Barry really in jail? I hope not. And where was Annyang?

'My (reproductive organ) is shaped like a (lobster tail), but without the shell.'

'This doesn't look good for anybody' 'Especially that dude' 'That's Ann'

The Rock/Paper/Scissors thing was hilarious, too.

I love this show. And this'll be the season 2 thread now, too.

maybe we wanted to enjoy the show first THEN talk about it.

This show just keeps getting better and better. Oh my god.

Michael completely forgetting about Anne in every episode is so great. I also loved Ice the Bounty Hunter and GENE PARMESAN~

I just love how, even with how funny every episode is, the story is still progressing.

Also, Tobias reusing the 'blue myself' joke is classic.

First chance I've gotten to see AD this year, and I gotta say - awesome ep. They really do a good job of making sure you don't get too lost if you jump in.

Tobias' line about Michael's dead wife was great. I won't try to re-write it because I can't do it justice.

Tonight was the first episode of Arrested Development that I've actually sat down and watched entirely, partly due to an article in this months GQ about how criminally underrated it was.

Rest assured it won't be my last viewing.

Holy fuck that is the funniest show on TV today, easy. Who knew Jason Bateman was so goddamn hilarious? Portia Del Rossi looks a lot more delicious then I remember her looking on Ally McBeal and Jeffrey Tambour is money in whatever he does.

"Your knee is on my heart."

" That cousin of yours is something special. Too bad you can't date her, huh?" (And the sons reaction is just a perfect follow-up).

" This is your father" *Hold up giant purple-blueish photo*.

The mom freaking out whenever the Private Eye shows up is awesome.

I think George Sr. isn't dead--he's too great of a character, this has gotta be a scheme to get back into America. Tobias' "I blue myself" line was great again--GOB's reaction was priceless. Buster with the Mexicans and catching his mom and Oliver again? Great stuff. This show really is the new Seinfeld, it's easily my favorite thing on Network tv. The little jokes that reoccur are awesome, like Maybe telling Michael "It's not even a race thing" about Ice, which he thinks is about racing home, and then once they get into the house he turns to the other car and brags about beating them. The little stuff like that, awesome.

The only thing that does suck is it doesn't have huge name recognition yet, like when it's on I try to get my roomates to watch but none of them have watched it or really heard about it--so they all leave after watching The Simpsons and I watch Arrested Development in peace.

Well; to draw with your Seinfeld comparison...It took that a couple years to really hit big.

The latest episode helps prove once again just why this show is so great. It's almost like in each episode, you have a new "greatest line ever on TV".

Last week's classic line was:

Buster: "I heard zoo noises."

And my favorite line/exchange from this episode was:

Buster: "Mother!"

Lucille: "Buster, I thought you were in Mexico!"

Buster: "So did I!"

But like I said, you can list funny laugh out loud bits from each episode, there is just so much here for it to be only 21 minutes of show. I still can't believe that they cram so much fantastic material into so few minutes.

Another good bit was with Michael and Maeby:

Maeby: "And it's not a race thing.

Michael: "Yeah, whoever get's there first.

*then later on when Maeby and Michael get back home*

Lindsay: "Hey you're here already."

Michael: "Yeah, we won."

My favorite visual gag from this episode was when Michael showed the BLUEprint of his father to Ice, and then Ice goes off to find him. Later in the show, we see Tobias walking in the house, and Ice tackles him, just because he had blue paint all over his face, Lindsay says to him "That's not my father!", and Ice holds up the blueprint and says "According to my photography, it is."

I also liked:

Buster: "And a hand chair, I had one in my room! I wonder where that went."

Narrator: "It went right there."

And just one more:

Narrator: "At no point were Michael and Maeby talking about the same person, and there were only four people in their group.

It sounds like the narrator even forgets about poor Ann. :D

Opie is great at being a narrator. Yet, I still gotta say that he's only the second-best narrator guy in sitcoms that I can remember - because I think Daniel Stern is still the standard for that kinda thing.

Look, I'm stretching for a negative here...

!!!

I didn't even notice that before. That's hilarious.

This show is so God damn good.

I was laughing for at least five minutes after the "Buster in Mexico" plot.

And not to mention...

Michael: That's Anne, George Michael's girlfriend.

Gob: Is she funny or something?

I'm almost done the entire first season on DVD (God bless my unlimited free rentals) and this show is, without question the funniest comedy since Seinfeld. On top of that, it has the best writing and camera-work to come along in a while, on top of being very innovative with it's use of background files and Bluth Family history.

Last night, as always, was gold. Gob may just be my favorite character on television right now. Everything about him screams shifty and sleazy but he comes off as strangely legit in everything he does. Buster runs a very close second.

- Buster's birthday card for his dad. "Ooooooooh. That's wicked!".

- THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

- "Remember, Pop-Pop gets a treat."

- "I'll be bringing up some salmon rolls soon."

- Michael thinking that George Michael was tappin' Ann in the attic. "Just the fact that you refer to lovemaking as Pop-Pop shows me that you're not over his death."

How come Annyong never gets credit in the opening montage? He's technically a Bluth child now too.

BTW, in Season One, Tobias as Dorthey in jail was just about the funniest thing ever.
