Guest Nanks Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 He looks way too young. Maybe Walken was a better option.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 No one will be able to top Gene Wilder's performance.
Nevermortal Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I'm glad it's Willy "The Alien" Wonka.
justsoyouknow Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 ....it's Johnny Depp in a weird hat. I see no Wonka here.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Johnny Deep is great, he;ll be able to pull it off.
Guest MikeSC Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Will he bitch about America and praise France? -=Mike ...Why remake a classic? Stupid idea that will tank...
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I would tend to agree with Mike. I have zero interest in seeing this because it was done right the first time. I can't imagine Depp as Wonka.
Guest Smues Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Oh dear god. I already did not like this project, and now THAT'S what Wonka will look like? Dear god people have no respect for the classics.
Guest Nanks Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 It's being remade because Dahl wasn't happy with the original. His name is credited as writing the screenplay, but in fact it was heavily rewritten after he did it originally.
justsoyouknow Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 First of all, it's not a strict remake. They're shooting more closely to the novel, and it's a Tim Burton movie - I'm sure they gave Depp some crap to wear. There's no doubt in my mind that it'll be a very interesting, dark, sinister film, and that Depp will be able to pull it off. But that, right there, is not a very good spy photo. It's seriously Depp in a funny hat and Bono glasses.
Guest MikeSC Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 It's being remade because Dahl wasn't happy with the original. His name is credited as writing the screenplay, but in fact it was heavily rewritten after he did it originally. Thing is, I cannot name a real problem with the original --- well, outside of the kids all sucking, but that's a problem with kid actors. This isn't quite van Sant "Psycho" bad --- but lord, this is a bad idea. Does anybody know what was changed from Dahl's original screenplay? -=Mike ...A dark comedy Willy Wonka? Wow, this MIGHT be van Sant "Psycho" bad...
justsoyouknow Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I'm just glad they didn't cast Marilyn Manson in the role, as was rumored.
Guest MikeSC Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I'm just glad they didn't cast Marilyn Manson in the role, as was rumored. They considered Marilyn Manson? For "Willy Wonka"? Oh yeah, I have faith in this project. -=Mike
justsoyouknow Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 If it wasn't the Burton remake, then Manson was thinking of funding it himself, but either way he wanted to be Willy Wonka. I believe he's currently playing the Queen of Hearts in some sort of Alice in Wonderland remake.
The Amazing Rando Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 It's being remade because Dahl wasn't happy with the original. Wow, this MIGHT be van Sant "Psycho" bad... IMDB.com lists only one of the things that the re-writer changed, that being the fact that Wonka speaks many literary quotes during the film, something Dahl never wrote in the original. Also, a few lines down it simply says "Dahl hated the film" EDIT: I would like to also make my opinion clear that movie remakes like this almost always end up bad, and i can just see this "Alice In Wonderland" remake that JSYK was talking about being utter crap because of it.
Corey_Lazarus Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Actually, they didn't. Manson expressed interest, because he's been obsessed with the movie and book ever since he was little (hell, an entire chapter in his autobiography is dedicated to his love for the movie), but Dahl's family said they wouldn't allow it if Manson was cast.
2GOLD Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Please tell me that hat, sunglasses and collar are NOT Willy Wonka.... I have faith in Depp, but the outfit and Tim Burton worry me.
Guest Anglesault Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Tell me they didn't have Depp cut his hair for this project. The last time I saw him he had a decent length. I do have some faith in him to save this though.
Guest Shutterspeed Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 He's too young, and I don't know if he can play an eccentric enough character.
ChrisMWaters Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000136/ Depp isn't THAT young. ...hell, he was 20/21 when he became the human blood tower in "Nightmare on Elm Street"
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Will he bitch about America and praise France? -=Mike ...Why remake a classic? Stupid idea that will tank... And thats why you're going to start denouncing Johnny Depp? get a life.

And thats why you're going to start denouncing Johnny Depp? get a life. I denounce Depp for being a fucking moron when he's speaking publicly. I ignore his movies because I won't give one red dime to a slug I disagree with. When he has somebody intelligent writing the dialogue for him, he's fine. -=Mike
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Quit stating your preference as though its truth. Many agreed with Depp's stance.
Guest MikeSC Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Quit stating your preference as though its truth. Many agreed with Depp's stance. I'm supposed to give two fucks what a guy who barely finished high school thinks? I ignore the fry guy at McDonald's. I'll ignore Depp, too. He should only speak words somebody with an IQ above room temperature writes for him. -=Mike

A differing opinion does not equate stupidity. A different ideology is not stupidity. Its a difference in preference. No wonder your girlfriend beta you over the head with a phone, you're so goddamned pig headed and heavy handed with your bullshit.

I'm not stuttering here. A differing opinion does not equate stupidity. A different ideology is not stupidity. Its a difference in preference. No, idiocy is idiocy. No wonder your girlfriend beta you over the head with a phone, you're so goddamned pig headed and heavy handed with your bullshit. No wonder you're such a useless pissant. You have to live life with three functional brain cells. Continue listening to Depp for advice on how to live your life. I'd settle for a guy whose not noticeably less intelligent than a homeless man walking down the street. Now, stop holding your breath in anger as the trifecta of your intellectual capacity really can't handle that kind of punishment. -=Mike

I like his quote on Freedom Fries. If you don't agree, I consider you a write-off. I enjoyed your defnese for being pummeled like a little bitch. Really, seeing your online demeanor, it all truly does make sense. You've never supported any evidence to refute the fact that you did not deserve it.
Guest MikeSC Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I like his quote on Freedom Fries. You would. Considering the massive absence in your cranial cavity, I can buy it. If you don't agree, I consider you a write-off. If you think Depp has anything worth saying, you don't even qualify as a write-off. I enjoyed your defnese for being pummeled like a little bitch. Really, seeing your online demeanor, it all truly does make sense. You've never supported any evidence to refute the fact that you did not deserve it. Well, look at the bright side --- your right hand will never reject you. I know, you probably have no problem smacking a woman around, considering that you are a 12 year old child and all. -=Mike
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I like his quote on Freedom Fries. You would. Considering the massive absence in your cranial cavity, I can buy it. How old are you? About 27-28? How can you justify renaming FUCKING French Fries as a valid stance against France for not joining the war? That is a tactic a 10 year old child would use, surely not the government of the world's most powerful country. And about the woman. My point isn't that you should've slapped her back, it is more or less that you are such a contemptible twit that she resorted to beating the shit out of you. Its truly fitting.
