Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2004 Burton and Depp... the clever masterminds behind 'Sleepy Hollow'. And 'Ed Wood'. And 'Edward Scissorhands'. Obviously, I'm definetly looking forward to it. For those curious, here's more pictures:

Guest TheLastBoyscout Report post Posted November 10, 2004 That is pretty terrible. Wilder's "look" had more eccentricity to it- the frazzy hair, odd color choices and sometimes nonsensical speaking style made it all work. This doesn't look eccentric, it looks like he's bringing Charlie to his "chocolate factory" for another reason. Oh what a lovely tea party, indeed. Oh and Johnny Depp is not acting Jesus, and he gets way more love then he is owed.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 10, 2004 Aren't the musical numbers the biggest difference between the book and the wilder film. I seem to remember hearing the book didn't have any. You can't call this a remake, unless you also consider movies based on Shakespeare to be remakes. If the tunnel ride from hell is in the book, they should have Manson do the song or appear during it. Guest JMA Report post Posted November 10, 2004 Depp really looks like the O'Neil/Adams' Joker in those pics. Come to think of it, he may be a good choice for "The Clown Prince of Crime" in the new Batman movie franchise.

I just can't imagine ever being scared of Johnny Depp. Tim Roth? THAT'S The Joker.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 10, 2004 I wouldn't complain if Depp played Joker, but I'm unsure if he could pull off complete psycho in a convincing manner. Of course, he has never done it, but he just doesn't seem the type. I'm sure he could pull off a Jackesque Joker, but I'd like to see a more psychotic portrayal. Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2004 He's too young, and I don't know if he can play an eccentric enough character. Did ya even SEE Pirates of the Carribean? Are you saying that WASN'T eccentric? I have faith that Depp can pull this off. It's just that too bad that he looks like Michael Jackson in that pic. For all the people hanging off his nutsack, I'd say he's not nearly as talented as the matinee idols who came before him. I'd rank him below: - Sean Connery - Cary Grant - Tyrone Power - Errol Flynn - Ray Milland (Lost Weekend and Dial M are classics, folks) - Basil Rathbone - Humphrey Bogart Keep in mind none of these guys are particularly noted for their diverse range, however they've all given more truly great performances (in my opinion) than Depp. Depp strikes me as a guy trying to be like David Warner and pick "quirky" and "offbeat" roles. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 10, 2004 What's the point of saying he's not better than a random list of "screen legends"? I don't see how saying such a thing would show that Depp isn't a great actor.
Guest TheLastBoyscout Report post Posted November 10, 2004 What's the point of saying he's not better than a random list of "screen legends"? I don't see how saying such a thing would show that Depp isn't a great actor. Because you know what all those guys have in common? NONE are considered "great actors" Johnny Depp IS by a lot of people This is an inequity that needs to be fucking remedied.
Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2004 If the tunnel ride from hell is in the book, they should have Manson do the song or appear during it. Indeed, yes. If none of the above are available, any one of his songs would be perfect for the scene. 'Sweet Dreams', perhaps. More pictures: Now, I have faith in Depp and Burton, but this scares me completely. The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 Aren't the musical numbers the biggest difference between the book and the wilder film. I seem to remember hearing the book didn't have any. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I don't think "Sweet Dreams" would work. Maybe "Dope Hat," considering the video for that IS the Tunnel Ride From Hell, only done all shock-rocky, since it is Manson, and all. And who the fuck is that above Veruca? And what does Mike Teevee look like?

Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2004 For those curious, here's more pictures: They should have gone with Robin Williams. Robin Williams as Wonka... oh that would be so fuckin' hilarious. He's zany and random enough. In the one pic, did anyone notice his cane? It's made of candy! Fun, fun. [i just woke up and I'm bored...forgive me. I have an hour of time to kill before my Finding Neverland download finishes] What I hate about the pics is his hair... *way* too perfect. I prefer crazy*hair Johnny meself.
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2004 I pictured Depp as Wonka having the Sleepy Hollow hair, with the pimpin' tophat. Then I saw this and was crushed. It would have been so much better with the long, crazy hair.
