This Week in the NBA

Who goddamn it?

The Shaq foul on Desmond Mason. The game was on ESPN.

I didn't think that was flagrant. Dez Mason was driving right down the lane and Shaq stepped up and made a play. If I'm the coach I'd like to see him take the charge, but there isn't anything dirty about jumping for a block and giving body.

I also noticed that we forgot to start a new thread for this week, so I guess we'll just pretend we made this for two weeks.

I'm interested to see if Seattle and the Clips can keep it up, Toronto is coming back down to Earth as they've now lost four straight.  Seattle has started off with similar records the last couple years as well, if I recall.

Clips went down in LA yesterday by 14, 103-89. Somehow NBA League Pass was working on my TV for that game (I was getting a feed of Fox Sports Net West.. *sniff* I miss Jack-in-the-Box commercials and it was surreal for me hearing the ads tell me to go to my Southern California Dodge Dealer..), and I was able to watch the game, at least the second half. It was a tight 3rd quarter, but they pulled away in the fourth to take the lead for good. Bryant led the team in points with 23 and had a game high 11 assists.. Which I found interesting. LA is now 3-1 when Bryant leads the team in assists, and 1-2 in games where Kobe leads in points but not assists. The most notable one was the Utah game where they lost 104-78.. Kobe had 38 points, but the team high for assists in that second game was 2 made by Brown (?). Said Brian Cook:

``We knew they wanted to come out and get us,'' said Cook, a second-year player who mostly sat on the bench as a rookie. ``We've got a big target on our back. We came out and showed them what's up.''

There are nine newcomers on the Lakers' roster this season. Cook is one of six returnees.

``With everybody we had last year, there was only one ball to go around,'' Cook said. ``Everybody had their egos. Everybody gets along this year. We know that we have to work every day to get better.''

Asked about Bryant, Cook said: ``I think he's more involved with the players, talking to them, even hanging out with them a little bit. You can tell he wants to be the leader of this team.''

Here was aforementioned ridiculous dunk on the alley-oop pass by Atkins yesterday (caught in midair)-

Tomorrow is a rematch of the REAL 03-04 NBA Finals, Pacers vs Pistons. ESPN. 8 PM. Be there or Artest will cut a rap diss against you.

So you think Indiana was a shoo-in to beat LA last season?

^ Yes. Indiana was almost as good as Detroit, and played D in a similar fashion. I think LA may have had an actual win rather than a fluke one, but I do think Indy would also have beat LA.

I disagree. The Pacers didn't have the same kind of athletic ability the Pistons did, not to mention a ton of momentum and a smart coach who was able to counter the triangle offense and the Laker star power.

Plus JO had lingering injuries, and Tinsley was playing with a partially torn hamstring. Carlisle should have played Kenny Anderson more so Tinsley could rest rather than blowing the Detroit series for us with his pitiful shooting in game 5. I'm not bitter, though.

Also, I forgot to mention that SAS is blaming all of the Nuggets' struggles on Andre Miller. I've always thought the guy was underrated and knew that he'd probably end up the scapegoat if Denver didn't meet expectations, and that Crymelo's 36% shooting percentage would go ignored.

Also, there are talks of a blockbuster trade between Portland and Toronto

This is what I got from NBA.com

Portland would get Vince Carter, Jalen Rose and two unnamed players in exchange for Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Derek Anderson and Vlad Stepania.

Charles Barkley: Now why are we showing a Nets game without Jason Kidd? It's not gonna be any good.

Ernie Johnson: Well, because they'll be playing the Clippers as part of our doubleheader next Thursday.

Charles Barkley: OH, WOW! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT GAME! WOW!

On that subject, how long has it been since the Clippers won a nationally televised game? They should be able to end that streak next week.

They won Saturday night on WGN, but I don't know if those are on the Superstation...I'm still not sure how that WGN vs. NBA lawsuit worked out as to Bulls games on the national feed.

Okay Charles Barkley just hit a coconut with a hammer. Compelling TV.

Knicks beat the Rockets 93-92 on a buzzer-beating 3 off the glass by Jamal Crawford.

Huge win. Crawford, KT, and Penny stepped it up. Marbury also made some nices passes, and a timely hoop. Hopefully it carries on to Dallas.

That's why Charles Barkley is the man, he says what everybody else is scared to say. My favorite quote from last night was when he called Vince Carter half man half a season.

Good, I want to check out Shaun Livingston's game, since I did not get to see him during the free League Pass week. And I am not going to pay 20 dollars more. I'll wait until the first price drop.

Yep. Then there will be a probably last quarter of the season at like $30-40 bucks for the stretch run.

Seattle wins 9 straight after beating Toronto. Will they get any love?

Speaking of NBA League Pass, I still have it at my house even though we were only supposed to get the free one week preview. Hopefully it takes Comcast awhile to realize this or that I don't get charged for it.

There's no excuse for going into the crowd, but the fans need to show a little more class they're throwing a ton of shit. This isn't WCW. Holy crap more fighting with the fans.
