It might be from his days of being the "brother" of Dusty Rhodes, which was just before he became the Nature Boy.

I'm guessing it's in Georgia, but I'm not sure.

Flair talks about wearing the head band and tie-dye get up in his book. At the time, it was cool, I guess.

Looks like Flair in an amagalmation of various Billy Gunn gimmicks.

LOL.....very true!

If you would have looked at this picture back in the 70s, would you have believed he would become "The Man"?

Photo looks to be from 1976, judging by Flair's size.

That's the Mid-Atlantic championship he's wearing. Flair first won it on Sept 20 1975. He remained champion as he recovered from the plane crash (Oct 4 1975).

1976 was about the end of Flair's mock hippie look, though the headband remained for a little longer.

You want different? Flair in 1973. He's at least 275 lbs.

I think he looks kinda like Ted DiBiase minus the beard.

I was going to give DerangedHermit props for being the first poster to ever use a word that I had to look up in the dictionry.....

Then I saw that he spelled it incorrectly.

Flair used to be an offensive lineman in college for I think Minnesota. How the fuck did he lose so much weight

He wasn't that big in college. He did play freshman football at Minnesota, but was academically ineligible by the time his sophomore season rolled around and he didn't stick around college.

He sorta indicates that the weight gain was due to him training with Ken Patera and eating the way he did. 'Course, Patera was a bit taller, could carry the weight better, and was training for the Olympics.

Flair says he was 300 lbs. when he first started wrestling. He was trying to lose some of his bulk, but was 255-270 lbs. at the time of the plane crash.

Plane crash knocked him down to 180. The quick weight loss probably didn't help his physique (a quick substantial weight loss often leaves loose skin), though Flair was quickly up to a decent weight for his return, which was slightly less than four months after the crash.

Guest Loss

As much as I've hated on Flair a lot over the past few years, I do have to give him HUGE props for returning from a broken back in four months. He also wrestled with a broken neck for much of 1987.
