Pimp a local band

Recommended Posts

I'm sure you get the gist from the title. If you've got a local band you love, just name-drop em here and give a description of their music. I shall start

Locale: Seattle

Band:

Schoolyard Heroes- A great hard rock band with a classically trained lady lead singer, and a backup singer well versed in the art of metal-growl. Great B-movie lyrics reminiscent of White ZOmbie, before Rob Zombie sucked (including a song called Contra which consists almost entirely of the Konamie code.) They have songs for download at, appropriately, [http]www.schoolyardheroes.com[/http]

I'll have more later.

Inheritance

A thrash/death metal band out of my hometown of Franklin, MA. Originally known as Spinecast, they changed their name to Inheritance because there was already another death band named Spinecast. Reminiscent of Morbid Angel, early In Flames and Dark Tranquility, and Slayer. I highly recommend them, as I went to high school with the singer/lead guitarist, Ricky Zampa; worked with the lead guitarist/backup singer, John Crawford; and grew up with the bassist/backup singer, Pat Matheisen. The drummer I don't know at all, but the rest are pretty cool guys. Save for Pat, who's a major cocksucker.

And even though they broke up due to creative differences...

Sound Like The Hu-Man

Rap. Funk. Hardcore. Death metal. Folk. Industrial. Indy rock. Psychadelic. Prog. All of these make up the influential styles of Sound Like The Hu-Man. With Steve O'Neill on guitars and his younger brother Daniel O'Neill on drums, and Mike Roberson on bass and their friend Nathan Peavey on vocals, the band had a unique sound, probably best described as "Fugazi meets Cannibal Corpse." Very experimental, often heavy, and always good to groove out to. The band's name is derived from the classic b-movie Robot Monster, and the band's lyrics come from satire of "I hate my life" bands, b-movies, and even episodes of The Twilight Zone (as the song "Twilight" is based off of the episode where the woman is in a coma due to a high fever, and dreams that the Earth is heading too close to the Sun, but in actuality, the Earth is moving too far from the Sun).

The Legendary Klopeks.

Loud, abbrasive, dirty, punk rock band from Niagara Falls. Very popular band in the local area, and will attract a crowd. When performing, don't be surprised if an ambulance or two show up and the whole stage looks like a tornado went through it. Not great musicians at all, but they get the crowd right into it.

There was one local band I kinda liked, but they broke up earlier this year. They weren't very original—they sounded a lot like Joy Division crossed with late 80s, early 90s-era Sonic Youth—but they played with a hell of a lot of energy.

Just about every local band, otherwise, is either shitty emo/punk, metal (which I'm no judge of, anyway) or bland indie rock.

Location: Boston, MA

My favorite local band is a cover band called Beefy/DC. They play AC/DC covers (obviously) but mainly only play the Bon Scott era. The band itself is remarkably tight, and the singer is a 400 pound guy that puts on a really good show.

Definitely worth checking out, if you're in the area and get the chance.

/just realized this sounds like an oral report done by a 7 year old

Location: The South (mainly Tennessee)

The Loft (website) is a great bluesy-southern rock-almost jam-rock band. They put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen (thanks mainly to lead singer John Banzhoff). The whole band is just obscenely talented.

Location: Kentucky, Tennessee

Floord (website) is your basic southern rock band. They just put out an EP and are currently recording their second full album.
