9. Carl Pavano - Red Sox

10. Richie Sexson - Diamondbacks

12. Nomar Garciaparra - Angels

13. Troy Glaus - Red Sox (some rumblings up here about him signing and being converted to 1B)

14. Armando Benitez - Giants

15. Odalis Perez - Cardinals

16. Troy Percival - Cubs

17. Matt Clement - Yankees

18. Orlando Cabrera - Cardinals

19. Jeff Kent - Cubs

20. Moises Alou - Dodgers

And for bonus points, here are five players frequently mentioned in trade talks. Are they traded, and if so, where?

1. Sammy Sosa - Yes, Mets

2. Randy Johnson - Hmmm......No, if you mean by the start of next season. Probably will be in midseason though.

3. Kevin Brown - No

4. Charles Johnson - No

5. Jose Guillen - Yes......Mets

Finally, does Roger Clemens retire? Yes, but then he unretires because his 4 little kids begin to cry because they have always wanted to see him play close to home. He then signs with the Texas Rangers, wins 19 games, ESPN goes "What a great story" and he takes a giant piss on every franchise he's ever played for.

Roger Clemens, sucessfully uniting Sox and Yankee fans on one issue.

I don't think Alex Gonzalez is that terrible. He's not very reliable, but that's why he hits in the 8 hole. Anytime you can get 20 HRs out of your 8 spot hitter, that's not all bad.

As for Cristian Guzman, I did not even think about him or know he was available. That would be a good pickup, but I don't see it happening.

In my view, a .270 OBP is unacceptable no matter how many home runs a player hits. Remember, outs are the backbone of the game. Over any other factor, teams that use outs more sparingly are more likely to score runs. Alex Gonzalez made outs at a higher percentage than any hitter in the Majors. That's a tremendous obstacle, and 23 home runs does not cut it. With Gonzalez, followed by the pitcher, the Marlins were essentially giving up entire innings of offense. They cannot continue to do that and still compete for a title.

I see your point, Al. It appears as though I was also deceived by his win share data. I noticed that he ranked 7th, but then I looked at those below him and it included Nomar and Orlando Cabrera and it did not sink in at first that they were half-season data. The only regular player below him that I don't think is terrible or past his prime (Barry Larkin) is Kaz Matsui.

You're correct. But, I'm not going to conceed just yet. He does make a lot of outs, but this statline: .232, 23 HR, 79 RBI is better than a lot of shortstops. He's contributing SOMETHING, which is more than can be said of Juan Encarnacion.

Sweet, I was the only one that had Guillen going to Washington. Now watch that be the only pick I get right.

Um, i think Troy Percival should be removed from any lists posted from here on since it doesn't take much predictive ability to name the team he just signed with!

Anyway, I'm really curious, as a die hard Orioles fan who follows the rumors in the papers and the message boards every day, where are all of you getting Odalis Perez to Baltimore from? Is it just one guy predicted it and the rest of you didn't really know where he'd sign so just assumed Baltimore too?

We are likely looking for a starting pitcher, the ones I've heard will be the biggest targets are Carl Pavano, Derek Lowe and Erik Milton with Brad Radke and Matt Clement also getting some mention. I haven't heard Perez mentioned at all I don't think.

I decided to take a look back at these. No one correctly guessed Beltran, Martinez, Percival, or Glaus. Twenty out of 23 correctly guessed Varitek's return to the Red Sox. Cuban Linx currently holds the lead with seven correct guesses, but Deranged Hermit can tie it if the Mets sign Delgado.

Actually, if you discount his late pick of Percival, Precious Roy has seven picks as well.
