Guest CronoT Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Spike TV's second annual video game awards, or VGA's, are going to be on Dec. 14th. So, does anyone else think it's going to suck outloud like it did last year?
Lightning Flik Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 That's like my dentist tells me a lot of work needs to be done on my teeth; when I've got two shattered molers that need to be taken out. ...in other words, yes, this will suck. A lot.
Lil' Bitch Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Well, Snoop Dog will be hosting this year so that should be fun. All I'm asking for is for them to have at least acceptance speeches, they don't even have to be long. Just make it feel like an awards show! Oh hopefully some better music guests unlike last year with the lady who does the fucking Milkshake song.

Oh hopefully some better music guests unlike last year with the lady who does the fucking Milkshake song. Also, maybe they can actually have some quality games in categories. When Madden Football or whatever it was won Game of the Year, and Tony Hawk Underground (I think) wins Sports Game of the Year, something is definitely fucked up. Although, chances are it will be an all Halo 2 Fanboy vote.
Ted the Poster Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Indeed. The fact that there are two Halo threads in this folder is saddening.
Red Baron Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Its such a great game, it needs two threas.
AndrewTS Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Preview of the VGAs: "The Game of the Year is...Madden 2005!!! Now, the nominees for best CG boobies in a video game are..." In short, the answer is "no." Naturally, the fighting game of the year will be Mortal Kombat: Deception.
Ted the Poster Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Especially since no other really good firghters came out this year. Oh, were you being sarcastic?
AndrewTS Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Especially since no other really good firghters came out this year. Oh, were you being sarcastic? You're saying MK: D is good?
MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 So..as bad as last years was, I dont think the 2nd one could be as bad as G4TechTvs awards show a couple months back.
Ted the Poster Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 I'm saying it's good in the sense that the game is easy enough to master that online mode is hilariously fun. Graphics aren't too bad though.
The Man in Blak Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Last year's VGAs were the worst thing I had ever seen on my television up to that point, hands down. I'll pass this time around.
Golgo 13 Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Wouldn't Def Jam Fight for New York count for fighting games? Regardless, MKD winning is likely a formality.
starvenger Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Last year's VGAs were the worst thing I had ever seen on my television up to that point, hands down. I'll pass this time around. What, you weren't impressed by Bubba Sparxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx?
Lightning Flik Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Wouldn't Def Jam Fight for New York count for fighting games? Regardless, MKD winning is likely a formality. Fighting For NY would count as a fighting game. However, MKD would probably win hands down unless Def Jam paid them a shitload of money. Still, I ain't watching this. I'd rather work on producing TSM's Video Game Awards.
AndrewTS Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 The categories are up with nominees and you can vote now. The design to do so is really, really awful, though: http://www.spiketv.com/events/vga2004/ The fighting game nominees are DOA: U, Def Jam, FFNY, Fight Night 2004, MK:D, and Smackdown vs. Raw. Maybe I was wrong, and Fight Night will win that award... Hell, I'd almost have to vote for MKD based on those selections. Shock--Katamari Damacy is nominated...for best soundtrack.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 I went to vote, voted for one game, and the design of the voting template turned me off that I just stopped after one vote.
Slayer Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 The only good thing about the Spike VGA show last year was that it was preceded by an all-day MXC marathon Wonder if they'll do that again
AndrewTS Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 I went to vote, voted for one game, and the design of the voting template turned me off that I just stopped after one vote. See? "Best gaming publication" includes Game Informer, Official Playstation Magazine and Official XBOX Magazine--meh. "Best Song" (separate from best Soundtrack) doesn't actually let you preview any of the song selections, just pics/trailers from the game it is from.
Ted the Poster Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 The only good thing about the Spike VGA show last year was that it was preceded by an all-day MXC marathon Wonder if they'll do that again Let's hope so. <---- worst hit EVER.
Guest CronoT Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 I just checked out the categories and the nominees. It's definitely going to be an all fanboy Awards show. Halo 2 all over the place, and not a mention of Rainbow Six 3, Rinbow Six 3: Black Arrow, or Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. The only bright spot is that all of the Handheld nominees are for the GBA. Finally, someone's admitting that the N-Gage and the N-Gage QD are pieces of shit. As for RPG of the year, please don't make me laugh. The ONLY game there that deserves to be there is Fable. Where the fuck is Star Ocean 3? Or any of the .Hack games? This Awards show has a complete lack of legitimacy.
Slayer Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 For some reason I checked out the nominee list One of the GOTY nominees is a game that hasn't even f'king been released yet. That's something else
The Amazing Rando Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 For some reason I checked out the nominee list One of the GOTY nominees is a game that hasn't even f'king been released yet. That's something else They did this last year too. I think the game that actually won wasn't even out yet.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Wow, that's got to be the worst selection of games to vote for. Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 are the only choices for PC game of the year? Madden 2005 and ESPN2K4 are the only sports options? I won't even go into the non-RPGs nominated.
Slayer Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Is Half-Life 2 even going to be out this year?
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 It's supposedly coming out today.
Slayer Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Really? *checks* Holy crap it is..... Talk about underwhelming PR. I knew Halo2 and Doom3's release dates a good month in advance. I haven't heard any hype about HL2 though.
AndrewTS Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 It seems they quietly killed write-in votes as well. I distinctly remember writing in votes for Ratchet & Clank 2 and Aria of Sorrow in their respective categories. Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 are the only choices for PC game of the year? They're the only ones the mainstream cares about.
Ced Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Hmm...categories sponsored by endorsers? Surely this awards show is going to be fair and unbiased... *looks at the nominees listed* Fuck it, I lied. *Gives Katamari Damacy some votes and leaves*
