So can we tell who the future of the WWE is yet?

Recommended Posts

Benjamin can look like a legit badass at times, something that I have never seen from Orton, and I've only seen it a few times from Cena. Shelton needs someone to help him out with his mic skills. I can see him being bigger than Cena and Orton.

Don't forget about this guy either.

I'm going with Cena. Neither of them look like heading a new boom period, but Cena is above Orton, and he could become more mainstream if (and it's a big IF) his movie is successful. If he won the World title around the same time as his movie was released it could be a nice link that could put his name out there, as World Champion John Cena obviously has a better ring to it than just plain old John Cena, especially if they put him on the talk show circuit to promote it. Randy has been shoved down peoples throats too fast and he doesn't appear to really know how to carry a babyface character. He may learn, but will it be too late by then?

Ever.

Not even during the Latino Street Fight with Eddie? He's looked like a badass occassionally. Can't say the same for Orton.

Mark Jindrak COULD be the future of WWE, but he needs a God damn gimmick.

(Why did they get rid of him being the new Narcissist? I thought it was perfect for him.)

I see John Cena being "ahead" of Randy Orton in terms of being more mainstream. However, I don't see either one of them as "the future." Personally, I believe that Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas are the TRUE future of WWE. Both are young guys and are already very good. I predict that they'll have a very good feud in the future, elevating both of them.

WWE seems to be trying to recruit more and more wrestlers with amateur backgrounds, and I expect Benjamin, Haas, and Lesnar (if he ever comes back) to be the "leaders" of this new movement.

Not to mention some semblance of talent and ability. Some charisma would be nice too.

But he's been proven to be a heat magnet if booked right. Just watch the Heat match against Funaki from JD this year, he got a LOT of negative reaction from the crowd.

Mark was also cheered over Bob Holly at my last SD house show.

You'd be hard pressed to find a first match of the night not get good heat. The fans are happy to finally see action after waiting for it.

Jindrak is in no way, shape or form the future of WWE, unless the future is bland, boring, and lacking in flavor.

Cena is this generations Luger: Has potential, but refuses to improve in the ring and sticks to the same, boring style he's wrestled since he started. Also his rap gimmick needs to go. The dick jokes were funny the first 2 or 3 times...in the Winter of 2002-2003. It's been nearly 2 years, and he's beaten the gimmick into the ground so far it came out in China.

I'm still waiting for the X-Pac/Chyna sex tape joke.

I think there are four wrestlers in the WWE who could be 'big time' players for the company. They are Orton, Cena, Carlito and Benjamin.

Orton: He definately has the pedigree. He is a third generation superstar amd has the best 'look' of any wrestler on either card. He has improved out of sight in the ring and has already had memorable matches with Foley twice (albeit as part of Evolution at WM XX) and Benoit. He has good mic skills although that is an area that most wrestlers in the WWE have to improve on.

Cena:Some people say that Cena's act is gettin stale. I disagree. I just think that working the same show, with the same opponents over and over again week in week out is just too repetitive. Cena has a good matches with Benoit and Angle.

Benjamin:A natural in the ring. Shelton needs a stong IC title riegn to really get him over. He is tearing the house down with his matches against christian and I think after he is done with that fued he should move onto someone like Batista or Edge.

Carlito:He has a great gimmick but not one that is too predictable. This gimmick allows him to grow his character. We havn't seen enough of him in the ring but he has been a breath of fresh air on SmackDown! and his promos always grab my attention.

For all or any of these wrestlers to be mainstream stars the brand extension needs to end. Imagine the possibilites:

Orton V Angle

Carlito V HBK

Carlito V Benoit

Cena V HHH

To answer your question I think Orton's star is going to grow even brighter. For every great hero there must be a great villian and HHH isnt that at the moment. Wrestler's get over because the crowd is solidly behind them, not because they hate their opponent. It is how Cena got over and it is how Orton is slowly getting over.

These days, instead of drawing heat by talking trash about their opponent wrestlers draw heat by talking trash to the crowd.

Does it really matter which "wrestler" is supposed to be the future? Both of them could probably have had a good shot at it if the booking and writing wasn't so godawfully terrible. Its not like any of these guys are gonna get a push or storyline that isn't somehow botched. I mean c'mon now.

The future of the WWE is Stephanie and her husband taking over when Vinnie Mac leaves.

No one on WWE's current roster really stands out like Austin in '96-97 and Rock in '98. Cena looked promising a year ago, but hasn't done anything since. Orton is a disaster and comes across as a glorified Mid-Carder.

I disagree...Orton looks like a boy band member or a male model, not someone who could kick your ass.

The only match of the four you listed with any potential drawing power is probably Triple H-Cena.

Cena has more potential than Orton imo when you take into account all the safeguards put into Orton. Cena has not been booked to be a super group with HHH and the legendary Ric Flair. Cena did not get the longest I-C title reign since The Rock in 1998.

Cena has been handcuffed with his "raps" which no one brings up. Last week it finally seemed like Cena was not trrying to be toilet funny and cute. If they can keep him cutting more promos of this nature it will only benefit him. He is more believable with what he's saying than Orton with his "density".

Oh, btw, until the wwe has one identifiable champion Triple H will be seen as the major star from the attitude era. There is no clear cut #1 man with two belts, but Trips has the advantage of being a top player that tangled with the likes of Austin and Rock and later Hulk Hogan.

I ahve to admit, I enjoyed when Orton suggested a match lifting the "no title shot" stip, and about 17 people cheered, causing HHH to repeatedly mention the stips, and not getting any better reactions. There was a little bit of panic in their faces.

Haas? Come on now.

I know the dude is a good wrestler but he couldn't (as a face at least) get the crowd to care about his match if his life depended on it.

Why was WGTT broken up?

People who diss Cena's workrate need to understand that not everyone needs to work like Kurt Angle in the ring in order to get over. In fact, most of the guys ion the history of the WWE who made a ton of money were either average wrestlers (compared to their peers) or they had a very limited move set that they used over and over to perfection. I think Cena is heading that way, he's got some moves that work, the fans pop for them, so why change? We've also seen him wrestle good matches when he's in there with the right guy, so its not like he's untalented in the ring or anything.

I agree with this statement so much that if I agreed with the man any further I'd be fucking him up the ass. People need to get off Cena's nuts about his workrate. It's been proven time and time again that guys DO NOT need extraordinary workrates to succeed in WWE.

There's a serious difference between being a bad wrestler and trying your hardest, and being a bad wrestler and just going through the motions. Cena is clearly doing the latter.

Not that Rock was a bad wrestler, but I felt that the energy and enthusiasm he brought to the ring helped greatly in getting him over, and it should be the same for Cena.

The trouble with that is Cena won't show any energy or enthusiasm until he starts doing his own stuff again. With Gewirtz writing his material, Cena's dying a death out there.
