DMann2003 Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 I'm surprised there isn't a thread on this yet, I know there's a fair contingent of Nirvana fans (and detractors) on this board. I picked it up today (27.98 at Target), it's pretty interesting to see the band's evolution, I haven't watched the DVD yet but I'm looking forward to it. Feel free to post on it those who got it or are thinking of getting it, I'll answer any questions about the set that I can.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 what the hell is it?
DMann2003 Posted November 24, 2004 Author Report Posted November 24, 2004 what the hell is it? It's the long delayed 3 disc (plus 1 DVD) set of outakes, demos, early recordings by the band.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 Listening to the outakes and shit will only cheapen Nevermind and In Utero for me. Sometimes less is more.
Matt Young Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 Nirvana isn't one of my top 5 favorite bands ever like they were when I was in high school, but I still like them and since I have some extra cash, I planned on picking up the set. I went to Target tonight, though, and they were all sold out. I refuse to go elsewhere and pay more seeing as how I only have $42 to my name.
Spaceman Spiff Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 I'll probably end up throwing it on my Christmas list.
Big McLargeHuge Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 Amazon delayed my order. It was supposed to arrive today, but they're lazy fuckholes. I'm pumped for it. I love outtakes and demo shit. If it's anything like The Beatles Anthology, it'll be great. And you might even find an alternate version of a song that you find superior. For instance, I much prefer the acoustic version of 'Opinion' Kurt did on a local radio show, as opposed to the heavier studio version. And I found the Anthology version of "I'm looking through you" much more appealing than the cleaned up take on Rubber Soul. Is the DVD just the music videos or are there home videos of the band as well?
Spaceman Spiff Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 I don't believe any of their music videos are on the DVD. The DVD consists of early/rare rehearsal/performance footage, including the 1st performance of "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
Guest Wart Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 The In Bloom video from sub pop is on it, thats the only music video. I downloaded it last Thursday when it leaked, and bought it at Target for about $30 after tax yesterday. Its pretty good.
Matt Young Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 I called Wal-Mart last night after hearing that they had it for the same price as Target and they told me that they had some copies. I picked it up for $27.84- well, exactly $30 after tax. If anyone else is planning on buying it, do it now. The regular tag price is $45, so if you get it this week you'll save $15+. I watched the DVD and listened to the first 15 songs (of 23) on disc 1. I'm loving it so far. It's reminding me why I loved Nirvana so much, and it gives me even more incentive to play my guitar again (which I just got back after a year, and haven't played in a year and a half total). You get 81 tracks total on 3 CDs and a DVD, 65 or so of which were previously unreleased. There's also a 60 page full color booklet included. The sound quality ranges from horrible-pretty good, but the actual song/content quality for the most part is top-notch. Question for others who own it- Did the cardboard thing with the track listings on the back fall off your boxes? The cheap ass glue didn't hold it on mine. I tried taping it on, but that didn't work too well either. I finally decided to just scrape the ugly glue off and store the cardboard thing inside the case in the pocket that holds the booklet.
Guest Wart Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Yeah, its not supposed to stay on. The back and part of the inside of the box are heat-sensitive too, so if you place your hand on it for about 10 seconds(assuming your hand isnt cold), some words will appear on the papers that are pictured on the box.
DrainYou42 Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 I picked it up on Tuesday, and while I had quite a few of the unreleased songs from various bootlegs, the quality is much better, and it reminds me after all of these years, why I'm still a Nirvana fan.
Guest Vitamin X Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 I don't believe any of their music videos are on the DVD. The DVD consists of early/rare rehearsal/performance footage, including the 1st performance of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Probably the only time they liked/actually wanted to perform that song. And anyone who's seen the track list.. Is the song "Marijuana" on there, and if it is, how good/bad is the quality? It's a delightfully oddball song.
Guest Wart Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 Marijuana is also called Moist Vagina right? If so, its there, but its titled "MV" on the tracklist.
Guest Real F'n Show Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 My girlfriend's getting it for me for Christmas. How long is the DVD part?
Guest Wart Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 I think the DVD is about 100 minutes.
Special K Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 The local radio station has been playing tracks nonstop (hey, it's Seattle) All the tracks I've heard so far are good-great. If you like Nirvana, that is.
