AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 I think I'd end up liking the guy if they gave him something good (as in not "Chief Morley") to run with. What was wrong with Chief Morley? I thought he showed some fine, very natural acting in the role, worked some good matches, and cut some great promos during that time. He made the best of it and was *this* | | close to finally breaking away from the stupid porn gimmick... And then they--well, you know the rest.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted November 30, 2004 Sadly, It might be because of his personal Politics. Vince is a diehard Republican and Morely is a hardcore libertian. there stands to reason, perhaps at some point Morely and Vince had a big political clash or something and vince holds him down for that reason. Dumb? yes. McMahonesque? completely.

Dumb? yes. McMahonesque? completely. Vince is a Democrat I think, although I don't know if he cares for many of the current Democrat leaders. WWE certainly seemed to be pro-Bush in 2000, though. Libertarians have at least some viewpoints that both sides agree with to an extent, and Morely's Canadian anyway, so it isn't as if he didn't vote the way Vince wanted him to. Here's my problem with that gimmick: It relied pretty much on Bischoff. It wasn't self-sufficient and made him look like a lackey. The idea of a "fighting" authority figure is interesting: someone wants something, they have to beat the authority figure to get it. The authority figure gets in a feud with a wrestler and so on, like Regal was for a time. What you had with Morely was a glorified lackey. I think that's why he didn't take off. While he did well in that role, he couldn't shake the 'assisstant' label and gain some credibility on his own.
Dimensions 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 Got this from Wrestlezone.com who had no reported source on the article. Here are MAJOR RAW Spoilers for tonight: The show will open the the battle royal to see who gets a title shot against Triple H. It's going to be treated as if Hunter made the choice for the battle royal. Hunter won't be in the battle royal, but instead will face the winner of the battle royal in the main event of Raw. Randy Orton will have to figure out how to handle the main event of the show due to a controversial ending of the royal. Orton will announce Jerry Lawler vs. Ric Flair in a battle of legends. He'll also announce La Resistance vs. William Regal & Eugene and Lita & Victoria vs. Trish & Molly,. Randy will ALSO announce a WWE Diva Lingerie Showcase (the diva's outfits will be auctioned off by WWE online afterward). There will be a huge segment with Maven stemming from the battle royal that further develops the direction of his character. No new vignette this week for Hassan & Daivari. ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 I would kinda like to see Flair/Lawler. Have they ever had major matches with each other in the past?
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted November 30, 2004 doubt it since Lawler worked Memphis his whole career and Flair worked NWA and they never crossed paths until Flair arrived in 2001. (Lawler debuted late 1992 as flair was leaving).

(Lawler debuted late 1992 as flair was leaving). Well, I know that Lawler and Flair were both in the 1993 Royal Rumble at the same time...when Lawler had one of the UGLIEST outfits of his entire career (and that's saying something) But still, this could be interesting. ...would have been REALLY interesting back when they were both in their primes. Guest bigm350 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 I'm sure Flair has wrestled Lawler before. Probably back in the territory days, when Flair was the touring NWA champ. I think I read that somewhere before.

While he did well in that role, he couldn't shake the 'assisstant' label and gain some credibility on his own. Okay, I understand now, but I'm looking at it from the perspective that, while far from perfect, it did a hell of a lot more for his stock than any Val Venis return ever would, and, if they'd booked him well after that, he could be out of that gimmick's long, sticky shadow and into a decent role. They blew it though, basically shafting him back to the Val gimmick and having completely taken off the main shows for a while. However, the reason for the Morely role and the real reason perhaps it happened was that Morely wasn't 100% at the time and it gave him a chance to wrestle part-time but take time off from the ring when he needed it. Fortunately, he's been healthy for quite some time now, but they may not consider him worth pushing now, which is really a shame.

Kardo 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 I've seen Venis before on Heat, I used to watch it every single Sunday night up until a few weeks ago, and I can't remember him EVER having an ovation like he did on Sunday night. He was more over than any other face on RAW last night. Ever since he debuted, I've seen superstar written all over this guy. If ever I've wanted someone to get a push who has never really had one, it's him. He's been there for years. Has never publicly complained, has a good look, and is a good worker. I don't get why Val has never been seriously pushed. Must be the HHH syndrome. You should see OVW, he had a **** 12 minute match with Batista in October of 2001.
