Should vitamins be considered.....

Recommended Posts

So I am watching an infomerical the other night and it is some guy who wrote a book about the FDA and Drug companies being in bed together. They were talking about how the FDA has said that "only a drug can cure or help with a disease" That isn't word for word the statement(it was a few nights ago) but it is basically what it is, so for example if a store said, Vitamin C helped with a cold, they could be legally shut down because Vitamin C is not classified as a drug, although the FDA is trying to classify vitamins as legal drugs because then the drug companies can sell them, and probably regulate them, although it would be weird being that you can grow your own fruit and all. The guy covered more topics too, such as how food companies are putting things in food, especially diet food to make people more hungry, and addicted to their product, and it is all being approved by the FDA, because the more we eat the more we spend to get more food, which in turn helps out the drug companies because then we need medicine. He also said how the drug companies are against any natural alternatives because they can't make money off of them. It sounded like the guy wanted to throw in something about medical marijuana, but he refrained and kind of subtly suggested it. Then he had a stat that 70% of the top execs of the FDA eventually end up leaving to take prominent positions in the Drug Industry. He said it was very telling that other countries pretty much refuse to accept our meat because of the continuous lowering of standards and the use of growth hormones. He said this is related to young kids hitting puberty so much sooner, and how this is not so in Europe and other countries. He covered some other topics, and I wish I remembered the title of his book, but maybe I will be lucky and it will come on again.

Has anyone else seen this, and what does everyone think about these issues?

(Trying to bring something fresh to CE Forum).

I don't take vitamins so I don't care.

Like many other things, I know nothing about this subject, so the only comment I can really say (besides OMG FAUX NEWS LOL2004!) is it would depend on what's in the vitamins and if the stuff that's in them can be considered "drug-related."

I'm sure there are some here that know a thing or two about this, and I'd be interested to hear their take...

Wow, this thread went over well, Mike. Say, whatever happened to your buddy that posted that poem? I liked him...

Yeah, I learned my lesson from this thread, more Bush bitching and NOW, lol. I think my friend is starting an online newsletter, so he is kind of making preperations for that.

Vitamins don't need to be regulated. Most of them are water soluble anyway, so even if you eat POUNDS of them, you're just going to piss out what your body doesn't need. The fat soluble ones are almost impossible to be deficient in, anyway. Your own body makes Vitamin D when exposed to sunlight..

They should be given a classification like "food supplement" or some such, otherwise they'd also be regulating everything like weight-gain shake mix, herbal supplements, etc etc, and they're just not drugs in the common sense.

I can't really understand the meat argument given the lack of mad cow disease coming from America...

Well, except for Hillary.

well I am sure there are plenty of other concerns besides Mad Cow Disease.
