The Official Orange Bowl Thread

But the point is that Donovan Woods got in on a secondary that didn't have it's best player and was sticking an obviously shitty player and unready player in his place.

With Bassey and Oynegecha out the secondary has looked better regardless of who they were playing. I gurantee you that they wouldn't have given up those long plays with Perkins in. Perkins will probably be all over USC's best wide out all day and Perkins can run with anyone on that team. If Leinart wants to make a big pass play he'd better not throw it in the direction of Perkins. Nor should they kick to Perkins, he tied the record for a reason.

USC's had the same defense in all year and they've looked vunerable. OU hasn't had the same defense in all year that's why you can't make a fair judgement off of those two games. With Perkins they would not have given up those big plays.

And on top of that once Bassey was out and the Walker kid was in the secondary was improved and Reggie McNeal didn't look so hot.

On top of that if Dan Cody gets his hands on Matt Leinart then Leinart won't feel to good the rest of the year.

Cody was the one that took KSU's QB out of the game and I believe he was the one that finished Reggie McNeal off to.

Yeah I know I'm bias as well but this is the only place that I can get my bias out.

I just got a job as an intern for the Oklahoma Daily which is OU's student newspaper. It's like one of the top circulated papers in the state of Oklahoma.

So I have to be objective and not bias in the paper. Even though it does cover Sooner Sports it's pretty objective.

So I can only be bias online.....damn! At least I get to be on the sidelines for OU football games now!

I hope so. Differently. Adverbs, bro.

I understand that. But you don't automatically stop every long ball just because Antonio Perkins is on the field. Very good quarterbacks complete passes; Matt Leinart is a very good quarterback.

Any of those long plays? At all? Even Charles Woodson blew coverages sometimes. You seem to have this really inflated idea of what one "superstar" player can do, especially a cornerback. No one player is going to win this game for either team; both teams are too good for that. What I'm saying is that switching in a couple of guys on defense isn't going to entirely shut down Matt Leinart, one of the most impressive receiving corps in the country, and one of the most precise offensive systems in the game today. Presuming that would be as ridiculous as presuming that USC can hold Adrian Petersen to 50 yards.

different = an adjective

an adjective = something that modifies a noun

write= a verb

an adverb = something that modifies a verb

differently = an adverb

and while we're at it, even though it's been said a million times

bias = a NOUN

biased = an adjective

A noun never ever modifies another noun. It's like saying, the victim was death on the scene, instead of saying the victim was dead.

I'm not much for the grammar and such. My JMC Lab teacher is always like "I love your stories but you need a good editor!" I've always been able to write for school well but I've always made grammar mistakes. I'll probably pick it up better writing for the paper. But now I have to learn AP style.....*looks at AP stylebook*.....damn that things big.

Well they still would've gotten long plays but they wouldn't have burned OU as badly.

What I'm saying is that Matt Leinart isn't going to have a field day on OU like some are thinking after watching the OSU and A&M games.

Yeah he's going to probably throw a TD or maybe two. But he isn't going to light them up like he did ND.

And I don't expect Jason White to throw 4 TD's and 400 yards either.

The hype around here is already reaching a fever pitch.

People are calling into the radio and going wild over the Orange Bowl. People in my classes are spending tons of money on tickets and everyone is ready.

This game is beinng billed as the best possible matchup of the Top 3 and people are saying it's going to be one of the best title games in recent memory.

I'm just worried that it's not going to be able to live up to the hype.

People are expecting a high scoring offensive showcase where White, Peterson, Leinart, and Bush all have huge games that are pleasing to watch and all 4 put up big numbers.

So I am starting to get a sinking feeling all 4 of those guys will have bad games and we're going to end up with a 10-7 defensive battle.

I just thought of a really simplistic comparison to show what's going to happen in the Orange Bowl. Oklahoma is Cal with a slightly better front four and no secondary.

They both have the balanced offense with the two top backs in the country and two top-ten passing games, and their defenses are both pretty solid. However, while OU's tendency to shut down a pure running team is a little more pronounced, their secondary has huge holes and tends to give up the big play in ways that Cal doesn't tend to at all.

Whereas Oklahoma hasn't seen anything like USC's team speed and ability in the passing game, USC's already faced a better version of Oklahoma and come out unscathed.

I think if I find a good online sportsbook to sign up with, a hundred dollars or so might find its way out of my bank account and on to USC before the Orange Bowl starts.

Then you'll be 100 dollars poorer, Iggy.

I think your a bit off on your analysis of Oklahoma to Cal. OU is a better all around team then Cal and their secondary isn't as bad as you make it out to be.

Not to mention that when there secondary gave up two huge plays they had:

-NO Antonio Perkins who is there best secondary player

-A shitty player named Eric Bassey out there

-A decent player who spent all of last year at Junior College in San Fran with a knee injury named Chijoke Oynegecha

Once they got rid of Bassey and put that Walker kid in....wow no holes and no more big plays. Once Perkins came back....wow no huge passing plays given up.

The secondary you base your opinion off of is not OU's secondary. It was a shitty collection of players b/c there best man was injured.

Fact is USC has not seen a team like OU. They saw Cal but OU is worlds better than Cal. And USC had trouble at home against Cal. OU is much better than Cal and they will be at a neutral site.

So come back with an analysis that doesn't ignore obvious facts.

"OU's secondary sucks!"

"They were missing there best player and had a really bad one in there. When the replaced that bad one it tightened up."

"Ummm......ummm........OU's secondary sucks!"

Well, the best passing game Oklahoma's faced since then is probably Colorado. If you want a comparison to the Pac Ten, when Colorado faced a pretty mediocre Washington State team, here were Joel Klatt's passing stats.

12-24 for 78 yards with no TDs and 1 INT.

Basically, any secondary with a pulse would shut down the last three squads Oklahoma's faced, huge holes or not. If shutting down Colorado's passing game is evidence enough to be able to shut down USC, then the Cougs probably shouldn't have Leinart get this line playing little over half the game:

23/28 for 235 yards with 2 TDs and 0 INTs.

They don't even need to go at Antonio Perkins. Jarrett and Bush both have plenty of big play ability, and they can even get Bush free on an end around if they need to. Oklahoma and Texas Tech are the only teams in the Big XII that really have good passing attacks, and the fact is that OU's just not prepared to go against a team with the big play ability that USC has.

The fact is that Texas, aside from being Oklahoma's only top 15 win, is also probably the team that Oklahoma matches up with best out of the entire Top 25. I'm pretty sure that USC's gonna win the Orange Bowl by a pretty decent margin.

One thing is for sure.

If OU loses this game and we get another three way tie next year, the OU fans need to no longer say a damn thing about deserving to be in the title game.

No more.

This is amazing. You're basically acting like OU is some DI-AA team that USC can just walk all over.

That is not the case.

OU's defense is better than you're giving it credit for and the offense is unlike anything USC has seen.

OU has more big play recievers than USC has and USC hasn't met a team with as many playmakers as OU has.

To say USC will handle OU when they couldn't even handle Standford is pretty fucking absurd.

I by no means think OU will manhandle USC but I think they'll win by a TD.

So take your anti-OU glasses off and look at the game objectively and realize that neither team has seen a team like the other. And both teams will be tested.

However USC has not had to come from behind in an extremely hostile environment against a good team while OU has. USC has made comebacks against bad teams and mediocre teams. Frankly I don't think they can keep up with a fired up OU team.

And what do you base that off Kotz? Is your reasoning "Dama likes OU a lot so they must suck b/c I'm tired of hearing about them!"

Seriously Igg's reasoning for USC's victory was weak and pretty much ignored the facts.

Everyone is just basically saying "I don't like OU so they must suck. USC will handle them!"

And to show you how confident I am of this fact if USC wins by more than 17 points I want to be banned from the forum.

No, my reasoning is that USC is 13-20 points better than Oklahoma in a head-to-head matchup. Fuck off, paranoia boy.

But they aren't. It's that simple.

USC had trouble with Cal who isn't as good as OU and they had this trouble at home. They had trouble with f'n UCLA. They had trouble with Stanford.

The two teams OU had trouble with are better than UCLA and Stanford, though not better than Cal.

USC has basically seen a lesser version of OU in Cal and they had trouble against that. Jason White is a better QB than Aaron Rodgers and has more weapons at his disposal than Rodgers on top of that. And Rodgers went nuts against USC.

Holy shit, I thought this nonsense would have ended last season.

Dama, stfu until the Orange Bowl game and do not post in any other college related threads until then. You have shown me that you are totally incapable of interacting with other human beings, who act like pricks, but you are too insecure to let their petty and immature bullshit roll off your back like I've told you to do before. I told you to develop a thicker hide like a year ago but that hasn't happened so now I'm stepping in after you asked me for help.

DO.

NOT.

POST.

AGAIN.

This is so fucking old and I can't believe you haven't changed after dealing with this same shit last year Dama. I'm totally disappointed in you. Grow up man and get a thicker fuckin hide if you want to post at message boards with lameass idiots who bait you (but do so because of your cocky ass win-or-lose posting mentality). Until the Orange Bowl happens, stay the hell out of any college ball related threads. Anything else is okay.

If not, then I'm changing your name to DamaOU in honor of MikeSC who didn't know when to lay his fuckin guns down for folks. Your passion will be your downfall.

This isn't fuckin sports. There are no winners or losers. There are only posters. That's it.

Goddamn.

If anyone else tries to burn Dama's ass in any sort of way after I make this post then consider yourself banned. I am sick and fuckin tired of people egging Dama on but I'm also exhausted from seeing him allow himself to be goaded into slap fights.

Folks, Al and Pete, I apologize for hijacking this thread. This post of mine was way longer than I intended it to be. Sorry.
