I have both and honestly i hadn't played my ps2 at all this year until Gta:SA and SD vs Raw came out, I love the fact that with the xbox you don't need memory cards, it really just comes down to what kinds of games you like and alot of the more popular games come out for ps2.

If you like Sport games, then I suggest X-Box.

The only reason to get a PS2 is for Final Fantasy and if you are impatient San Andreas (its comin to X-Box next year)

What would be the best games on each. I like sports games and shooting games.. Is the Xbox controler easy to use with all the buttons and the large shape. and which one is best for online play?

Just about everything is better than Xbox. If you play a lot of multi-platform games, Xbox always has better image quality and faster loading times. However, if you're an RPG freak, having a PS2 is a good choice, though I'm entertained by Fable at the moment, and Xbox also has KOTOR and Morrowind, both of which are excellent RPGs as well. Xbox has KOTOR 2 and Jade Empire coming out as well, so the RPG genre is expanding, though obviously not as much as on PS2.

It's a shame the Xbox didn't sell as well in Japan, otherwise they'd have a lot more simulation and RPG games. I'd still recommend Xbox as well, the online service is tons better than PS2's.

I used to be one of the most vocal fans against the X-Box. Of course, that was when all the Halo fanboys were around as I absolutely despise that game. Halo 2 as well. Both aren't fun to me. I'd rather play FPS titles on the PC.

Then I got to play a modded X-Box. So, it was basically a Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis & MAME machine for me.

Since then, a lot of X-Box games have come out that I've really enjoyed. Granted a lot of them are on both consoles. Tiger Woods 04 & 05. Madden, NBA Live, Fable, X-Men Legends, etc. I've had fun with the X-Box.

As far as the PS2 is concerned, I still think it has the best controller on the planet. I agree with the above poster though. Until San Andreas came out, it was really just collecting dust. I've had problems with the X-Box controller. Especially as far as six-button fighting games are concerned.

I'd go with an X-Box just for the modding availability. I don't play on-line at all on consoles, so that doesn't factor into my opinion. I'm going on the meer fact that you could play all the old games you enjoy and the new titles that come out. Besides, renting a game and copying it to your harddrive for six bucks is a lot cheaper than buying a new game each Tuesday for fifty.

are you going to play Final Fantasy or Halo?

What a joke. No system ever comes down to one fucking title. Especially when you're talking about a system that will see play from more than one person.

If you base your decision of buying a system off of one title, don't start bitching in a month (if that long) when you're bored of it and don't have anything to play.

You can mod your X-Box to play classic SNES, NES, SEGA games as well as other emulating games.

Though once you modded your X-Box, kiss the X-Box live away.

Does it cost money to play online with either system and how much does the hardware cost.

I'm not sure what the cost in US funds, but you can get the X-Box live bundle, and the first year is free.

Afterwards I think its like 6.99 a month or 59.99 for the year subscription.

If you're like me, and mostly are into old-school and Japanese-style games, PS2. There's next to nothing I want on X-Box that's exclusively for it. That's just me, though. The games that the X-Box fans tout do nothing for me. More games, better selections of games, better controller, and Japan actually *likes* PS2.

"Does it cost money to play online with either system and how much does the hardware cost. "

PS2 only requires a Network Adapter (30 used or 40 new, though), and broadband connection (okay, there are some dial-up games, but I could only imagine how bad the quality of the game experience would be, since as it is I have lag and disconnects on PS2). The actual use of online play costs nothing, though.

X-Box Live costs money, though (mentioned above), although it's not all that much.

I can certainly see Coffey's points--but there is no one around here that mods X-Boxes, and I'd never go through the expense and trouble to *mail* it to get it modded anywhere.

Plus, even the "new" X-Box controller sucks, IMO.

I used to be severely outspoken against the XBox, until two things happened. KOTOR came out, and the price came way the hell down. Then I bought one for my birthday, which is in fact, today. I bought KOTOR and NFSU2 for it and I am HOPELESSLY addicted to them both, though I have spent the last two days playing NFSU2... the possibilities... sheesh.

I still love my PS2, just because the wide variety of games out for it and the 20+ that I have for it. Though I think I am going to get my XBox modded, as I really have no use for the Live component.

PS2 Online Requirements: Dial-Up or Cable Network Adapter (Sold Seperately, except with PS2 Online Bundle); Phone Cord for Dial-Up Access (Sold Seperately) or Ethernet Network Cable for Cable or DSL Modem (Sold Seperately); Monthly or Annual Charge for Network Access(?)

X-Box Live Requirements: Modem/Network Adapter built into X-Box Console, no extra hardware required; Ethernet Cable; Monthly $5.99 Subscription Fee, Annual $49.99 Subscription Fee

I checked the Official PlayStation Website, but I didn't find any information about monthly or annual subscription fees.

Personally, I prefer the X-Box for Online play. Overall, the X-Box console is a much better built machine, especially the graphics. Also, except for the PS2 Exclusive games such as SOCOM and SOCOM II, most of the online games that are on the PS2 will also be on the X-Box.

Try it. It feels real damn good, and there's no buyer's remorse or guilt. :P

Buy neither unless you want to be out of the gaming loop for several years and don't fancy shelling out another grand.

Yeah, I'm 36 years old now, and I make enough money that I can do that, and I don't expect gifts from anyone that I am close to. The only one who did was my mother, and she died earlier this year.

So yeah, I ponied up $250 and bought an XBox, KOTOR, and NFSU2. And I am not regretting that purchase in the slightest. So yes, I am now drinking the XBox Kool-Aid.

And liking it.

Eh, nothing wrong with liking XBox (I may need to turn my SONYRULZ~! card now...). But if you start proclaiming Bill Gates as your Lord and Saviour, then I'll accuse you of drinking the Kool-Aid...
