INJURY UPDATES ON CHRIS BENOIT & LITA AND MORE WWE NOTES

by Mike Johnson @ 12:45:00 PM on 12/7/2004

When Chris Benoit was brought to the back after his tag match last night, he was legitimately knocked out from the Triple H chairshot. He ended up getting a few staples in the back of his head, but was OK later. The referee for the match, Jack Doan, was also busted open and knocked out, legit from the chairshots, and needed to be carried from the ring by the other referees.

Before the Lita vs. Trish Stratus match, WWE staff used 5-6 white towels to clean the blood spots on the ring and most of the towels were stained red by the time they were done. You could see the huge stains in the mat during the main event.

For all those who were asking, Lita was OK after her match with Trish Stratus. As we all saw last night, she has one hell of an angel on her shoulder after that dive.

Gene Snitsky's opponent last night during Sunday Night Heat was Caprice Coleman, who's a pretty good North Carolina worker.

WP -- really upset Benoit's waisting his bump card on nonsense like this. Did HHH really have to be put over as strongly as he was last week?

Trips really got carried away with those first 2 chairshots. I cringed at both of them, especially Benoit's.

As for Lita's bump, I legit thought she rebroke her neck there. After the first replay I was wondering how the hell you could not break your neck with that. And then she finishes the match. I earned quite a bit of respect for Lita after that.

I agree I cringed every time they should a replay of Lita's Suicide bump. Don't know how she can actually be waling after that.

Also, why couldn't Triple H hit Benoit in the Back instead of the neck/head area? After all he did have neck surgury! The ref man all I can say is he deserves a bonus for the chair shot he took!

Awesome. Really.

He's even had a few matches in ROH hasn't he? Not sure, but I've enjoyed the stuff I've seen of him, in LAW for instance here in NC..so, it'd be great if he got the Shelton Benjamin heat push from a few years ago.

He was in a 4-way scramble a few months back I believe.

Think maybe HHH was getting him back for the suplex spot last week?

That's a good point. You never truly know on these things. The bump last week looked like it was preplanned because it just gave HHH a great excuse to leave the ring. People don't usually leave the ring after a suplex your opponnet on your opponent spot but of course this is a triple threat where that sort of thing happens easier than what you get with a normal bout. Who knows?

The bottom line though is HHH injured two people in a row back to back. Whatever way you look at it that's simply not right.

The spot was supposed to be on the chest and Edge landed on HHH's head. Trip would have put his arms up to protect himself if that was planned and instead he turned his head out of instinct, which was even worse. I noticed HHH was a lil more snug on Benoit during that match after the spot as well.

The ref took a wailer. He got clocked. After seeing all that, Dave "Big Pimpin" Batista was all like, "I don't want any of this shit", and he caught the chair like two feet out in front.

I'll have to take a look at that agains and make a point to check for extra stiffness afterwards. Sometimes you don't notice that in Benoit matches with Benoit being well -- Benoit.

I was debating wether that was planned or not. I'd say you're right. It wasn't meant to be on the face and was indeed supposed to be a chest bump. So if it was indeed a screwup that brings us to the fact that HHH let everybody know that he was hit on the face as he sold it like death. The cynic in me would say it was to show 1) Benoit "was sloppy" and 2) he's breaking kayfabe by putting sympthany heat on himself (HHH has never sold like that before) as wrestlers will often sell a screwed up move the way it was supposed to be sold if the move was hit correctly. But still the selling did come at a spot where HHH looked like he was going to take a triple threat vacation outside the ring so the extra selling was probably a good idea. Just convienint for Trips.

Now Benoit took that same riduclous bump at the end of the Ironman and I'm trying to remember if that one was worse than the one after the tag match last night. Did HHH swing just as hard? Was the chair or Benoit's head at a different angle? Can anyone remember? If HHH was indeed being unprofessional than that's pretty stupid on his part because Benoit's been bumping like a maniac for him the last few months (see apron hip toss from Ironman)

I don't think the back-of-the-head chairshot busted Benoit open in the Ironman, but on the other hand, I remember that looking INCREDIBLY sick, like it caught him flush in the head at full speed.

Either way, neither one of them looked particularly swift and painless. And it's DAMN sure not a hit a guy that had spinal fusion surgery should be taking.

I'm laughing at the "Evil Motives" that Triple H apprently had here, it happens countless times where a wrestler overdoes a bump or hits to hard or whatever. I strongly doubt HHH went in there and said to himself "Bust his head open for that suplex spot last week!". In all likihood, it was a mistake that has happened many times before.

actually for a moment there I had thought that HHH's chairshot to Jericho Really hurt Jericho's hand. I saw when Chris went down her was clutching his hand and grimacing as he rolled out of the ring.

i didn't think Benoit bladed because I saw the blood, but they didn't focus on it like they usually do when someone blades. I know it was in the heat of the moment, but Triple H really should have toned it down just a little bit.

Think maybe HHH was getting him back for the suplex spot last week?

If you watched you could clearly see HHH scooting over for the suplex so the conspiracy theory is out the window.

When I first heard those chairshots I thought "Damn is the chair mic'd up because that was extra loud".

I have it on tape and if you re-watch the Ref chairshot is more so a result of bad timing. The ref does put his hands up to protect himself and then just lowers then before the shot even connects. Why I don't know.

I also noticed Jericho instantly clinching his hand.

I just wanna know why Triple H didn't use the sledgehammer instead. :D

I first saw that Lita dive, I was like OH FUCK! Now, I've seen it a million times, have been desensitized, and have it in my avatar. Woot....

I was wondering what all that blood on the side of the ring was. I looked back, and that was one vicious chair shot.

I love how after Jericho took the chairshot, he immediately started holding his hand/wrist.

LOL, yeah. I noticed that too. Jericho put his hand out at front to absorb the chair shot, and that shot was pretty damn hard...

Some of the best chair shots I've seen this year. I don't think the chair was gimmicked either, it looked like it didn't bend at all.

If it was someone over than Trips, it would probably have been passed off as an accident by now.

Well fucking duh. Any other wrestler didn't have Edge dropped on his head, there would be no reason for that wrestler to intentially "get back" at Benoit.
