DC Comics' Next Big Event after Identity Crisis

Recommended Posts

Well it looks like DC Vice President Dan Didio might have given away the character Batman is holding in the cover

Wizard: Who's going to be your breakout character of 2005 and why?

Dan Didio: Blue Beetle. Integral to everything that's going on in the DCU, and definitely the CATALYST for all the big events of the year.

More news concerning DC Countdown

While DC is not revealing what DC Countdown is leading to or what the issue is about, Wizard provides info on the four mini-series that will follow Countdown and the storyline that began it all.

DC says that the catalyst for everything that is about to happen was the "death" of Donna Troy in TT/Young Justice: Graduation Day(Comment: Surprising to say the least)

DC Countdown will be followed by four mini-series and Wizard provided some info on all four

Day Of Vengeance by Bill Willingham and Justiano

Following the events of Green Lantern:Rebirth, The Spectre is on a mission to destroy the supernatural forces of the DCU. His partner in crime: The new Eclipso! But what role does Captain Marvel play?

The OMAC Project by Greg Rucka and Jesus Saiz

After the shocking revelation in Identity Crisis, Batman is out to ensure that nobody's mind is ever violated the way his was again, but will Checkmate thwart his plans? And what is the OMAC Project?

Rann/Thanagar War by Dave Gibbons and Ivan Reis

With two alien races teetering on the edge of war and other planets ready to take sides, it's up to one Green Lantern and the heroes he gathers to prevent chaos and destruction on a galactic scale.

Villains United by Gail Simome and Dale Eagleham

In the wake of Identity Crisis, an alliance of DCU's deadliest villains has joined forces to strike back against the heroes that altered their minds. But do their plans end there, and if not, what hero or villain will be able to stop them?

Edit: Here is an interview with DC VP Dan Didio discussing Countdown and the four mini-series

DC needs to start telling great stories again. Not going for crappy giant crossovers that are meant to change *everything* about a character only to see all the changes revert back to nothing a couple months later.

Does anybody know what happened to Luthor after the S&B arc? Or is he still in hiding?

He just came back last week, working behind the scenes with the help of Ruin and The Calculator

He made his presence felt in Adventures of Superman #636, Teen Titans #20, and Manhunter #6

I still want to know who the dead guy on the cover of Countdown is.

Current word on the street is that it might be a mortally wounded but still alive Adam Strange, in order to kick off the Thanagar/Rann war storyline...

So who was it.

My guess is that it's Adam Strange and that he's not really dead, just wounded. And that Countdown is one big plug for the Thanagar/Rann War, which is supposed to re-establish the Green Lantern Corps as a force in the DCU....

BTW The Dildo has recently stated that with regards to "How far back will Crisis II/Countdown/IDC goes back towards events being foreshadowed" that everything somehow all connects back to the murder of Donna Troy and that her death is the thing that IDC and Countdown/Crisis II all go back towards in regards to what is the thing that caused all of this to happen....

Does anyone know a good website where I could read up on Blue Beetle, hes one of the DC guys i'm not that familiar with. I know the basics on him but not much else

All you need to know about Blue Beetle is this: He's the second Blue Beetle, the first one was an unlucky dude with a magic scarab that got crushed by rocks by a giant robot. He's medium sized genius and has an air-blast gun and a giant "Bug-Ship" that he and the JLA flies around in. He's best friends with Booster Gold, a fame-seeking time traveler who almost always gets Blue Beetle roped into his various "become rich and famous" schemes. He has his own small-time electronics company and has close ties with Oracle, who he corresponded with on the internet when health problems temporarily sidelined Beetle's super-hero career.

To add more on Blue Beetle, he was originally a Charlton character--when DC bought them they added them in through Crisis on Infinite Earths. There are a few other Charlton characters around--Peacemaker, Nightshade, etc. The three most important ones in the DC world are probably Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, and The Question. Also, the Charlton characters are the inspiration for the Watchmen crew (Peacemaker = Comedian, Nite Owl II = Blue Beetle II, Question = Rorschach, Captain Atom = Dr. Manhattan, etc. etc.) As JasonX said, Beetle (the current one) has no powers--his scarab was crushed. He would have had flight, superstrength, and energy powers. He's popular in the more fun Justice Leauge stories and had his own title back in the day. Also, he took the worst beating in comics history that a normal human did from Doomsday.

The new Adam Strange mini-series is very well written. Everyone should pick it up. The first issue set-up things very well for the series.

If Donna Troy's death was a catalyst, then Outsiders better be prominently featured in this shindig, especially Nightwing and ARSEnal.

Donna's death was lame. I mean, she got killed by a clone for fuck's sakes...

I like the Outsiders but only certain books. The latest arc with America's Most Wanted was something...different. At least Grace's past was somewhat fleshed out okay.

Certain *books* or certain issues? 'cause, as far as I know, Outsiders are only featured in... well, Outsiders. And if such, which issues didn't you like? I've enjoyed the whole series so far, even if the SABBAC arc was a little convoluted.

Most Wanted was fairly awesome though, the end of the second issue in that arc was a definite *holy shit* moment.

I did not like America's Most Wanted really. I liked how it fleshed out Grace at least. Winnick is a writer who I have a love and hate relationship with. I thought his first two dozen or so issues of Exiles was top notch shit. His run on Green Lantern helped kill off any hope for the book not getting axed and turned into Hal-lite (which actually did happen).

Outsiders was a book I was hesitant about liking since Winnick was writing it. But, I like the personalities of the characters. I didn't care for how Nightwing got a dressing down from the team or how Arsenal's life was nearly taken and dangled in front of fans so early into the book's run. That's poor pacing and story telling to me.

Yeah, the one big beef I have with Winnick is how he blew his wad with Jade taking over the team. It's kinda like how the WWE pushed Orton.

However, I disagree that dangling Arsenal's life before us so early was a bad thing. Anyone who cared about Arsenal was immediately sucked into that story, and it wasn't as if they did permanent damage to the guy.

Besides, having Huntress in their for a couple issue was hands down awesome.
