It's getting limited Oscar qualifying release and will go wide at the end of the year-early January assuming it does in its limited run. Spanglish is going to need good critical reviews- which isn't ending. Brooks is a big name and people associate him with quality movies which should help. Snickett will do at least 50 million- its only competition is people who haven't seen the Polar Express

The last Jim Carrey comedy opened to 67.9 million. So how is this movie only making 15-25 million with National Treasure officially fading and Polar Express the only real competition

The Lemony Snickett books are wildly popular- in fact they knocked the Harry Potter books off the top. It also has Jim Carrey who appeals to everyone. The movie looks like it's Jim having lots of fun and being crazy which is what sells his movies and makes them hits. There's no competition for the movie. Everyone's seen National Treasure and the Incredibles so the kids will come out for this one.

I work with kids, and i've seen more of a response for The Polar Express, The Incredibles, even Spongebob Squarepants than I have for this. As I said, it'll do at least 30 million opening weekend and hold up well during the holidays. But 50 million? No way.

I have not read the books, but the Harry Potter films made a ton and this one has Jim Carrey attached on top of it. I don't think it will make quite as much as Potter, but it could come close.

It won't have the staying power of Potter, but it could approach it for opening weekend. The second one anyways. I realize it won't get near what Azkaban did in its opening.
