Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 14, 2004 Interestingly enough, Carrey was on Letterman tonight and took a shot at the academy when he was asked who was nominated along with him and he replied "Jamie Foxx. which is great...In Living color alums...and someother people. No! Paul Giamatti and Kevin Kline and Spacy" and then Letterman made a question about his chances and Carey replies straight forwardly " if It's by performence? I got in the bag but if it's by body of work...well then Kevin has it". and also slammed his newest movie by pretty much going "I have to be here. It's contractual obligations." and went "It's all right". Then he saves face by going "No, it's a lovely movie" after the clip. I really think Carrey is too bitter. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 Well remember- This is a guy who made the Majestic just to get an Oscar nod. I'd be bitter too if I were him
CBright7831 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 Yeah, he didn't even get a Golden Globe nod for The Majestic. At this point, Carrey should go the Bill Murray route: "Awards are meaningless to me, and I have nothing but disdain for anyone who actively campaigns to get one. It's a really unattractive sight to see an actor or actress who really wants an Oscar. And you often see it on the show - you see their faces and the desperation is so ugly." - Bill Murray moments after losing the Best Actor Oscar to Sean Penn
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 That's because the Majestic was a boring piece of shit. Carrey's the only one who never realised that
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 14, 2004 I think he did and was hoping the Academy would buy into it and give him a sympathy nod and he'd go "YOU SEE! YOU GUYS DONT KNOW SHIT!"
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 Carrey's given interviews where he defended the movie and dismissed people who didn't like it. I'm telling you- I think he's the only one who liked it. I don't think he would kill his dramatic career just to prove a point but if he did- that's awesome
the max 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 It's great that Michael Chiklis got a nod, even if he probably will lose. It's also strange that Kiefer Sutherland and James Gandolfini got shut out. I can't speak for the Sopranos, but season 3 of 24 wasn't really Kiefer's best. Outside of his heroin addiction he really didn't add much of anything for me. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 I'm sad Without a Trace got snubbed. I don't know how TV shows work for the Golden Globes (if they submit episodes or something else) but some of the episodes they've done (ie Wannabe) is some of the best stuff on TV. TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 I totally agree Bob. Without a Trace is currently my favorite show on TV and Anthony Lapaglia is excellent and definetely deserves a nomination.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 SOOO happy that Deadwood got noticed. Especially McShane. Also...Eternal Sunshine was so great that I'm happy to see it on the list. Carrey OWNED that movie. More than anything else he's done.
MDH257 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 I hate the arbitrary way Comedy is handled, Desperate Housewives is not a comedy, neiter was Ally McBeal all those years it was getting nominated and winning in those catagories. The writers and performers aren't under the same pressure to be funny as the people who make Scrubs, Arrested Development, or even Will & Grace. I also hate how Musical is thrown in with Comedy. The movies that in recent years got nominated are clearly drama (Chicago, Evita, Mulan Rouge) and they alway win because there going up against comedies that no one takes seriously no matter their merits. It's also qustionable to seen movies like Eternal Sunshine and As Good as it Gets labled as comedy. Look at what competing it the comedy film and acting catagories: Ray, Beyond the Sea, De-lovely, Phantom of the Opera. They're all dramas.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 Actually, when Jim says "it's alright" then that usually means it's a good movie. When he's singing the praises of it, that means he hated it and never wants to speak of it again. If you hear an interview where Jim is talking about how great this new movie he is in is? Run from it, cause it sucks to high heaven and back. I've learned this from his interviews on E!, ET, and LETTERMAN. He's the reverse film seller.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 14, 2004 I kind of don't get why Tarrantino movies get love, but he doesn't get much love for directing them. I consider TARRANTINO to be about 90% of the reason his movies come off with that "cool" feeling, and being different from everything else. I mean could imagine ANY OTHER director trying to tackle Kill Bill and having it come out so good? No, but it's funny trying to imagine what they would have been like being directed by Oliver Stone...
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 14, 2004 That's because the Majestic was a boring piece of shit. Carrey's the only one who never realised that That's bullshit. I remember watching Carrey on Jay Leno, I believe it was for Eternal Sunshine, and Jay asked him how he was ,and Carrey replied something along the lines of.. "Oh you know Jay, I'm fine. I was a little down, a bit depressed for a while, I made the Majestic, you know... But now I'm fine!" So I found it funny he took a shot at the Majestic. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 I think he was joking. I've read articles where he sounded bitter and upset about the failure of that movie. I believe in EW when they did an article about Bruce Almighty he talked about it.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 so am I the only one who really loved The Majestic?
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 14, 2004 Majestic was a all right movie that in hindsight is even better when you realize that what carey's intention here was.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 The Majestic is the only movie Carrey's been in starting with Liar Liar that I didn't see in the theatre. I tried watching it a while back and was bored to tears
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 14, 2004 still; wasn't his worst movie. That honor squarely belongs to The Mask and Ace Ventura
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2004 I hate both those movies so I wouldn't disagree. He only did Ace Ventura because he had to and I think it shows. Carrey said he would do another sequel either

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 15, 2004 Well then, that's good to hear. I'm going to check out Sideways tonight. I'd been interested in the movie ever since I saw the trailer for it and found out Paul Giamatti's the lead actor. I loved his performance in American Splendor (a movie I highly recommend and was even semi-pimping in my avatar for a while), and am excited to hear he did a great job in Sideways as well. I hope it lives up to expectations. I still haven't seen Ray yet, as I pegged that as one of my future DVD rentals and I'll probably leave it at that, along with Saw and a variety of other movies I'm semi-interested in seeing but haven't gotten around to quite yet. I do want to check out Closer and Kinsic (I believe that's the name of it) as well.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2004 I think you mean Kinsey. It's a shame Closer is getting poor word of mouth- I don't think people expected the film to be so depressing and disturbing.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 15, 2004 I have to tell; you have to see Ray at the theater. It wouldn't be the same on your tv even if you have the best Home Theater in the world.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 16, 2004 Yeah I meant Kinsey, I'm sorry. They actually played the trailer for that before Sideways, and now I'm extremely interested in seeing it. Oh, and I absolutely loved Sideways, I thought it was an extremely underrated comedy. The golf course scene was my personal favorite part. Giamatti deserves the nod for this one, though I don't think it beats out Carrey, no matter how similar the characters they played are. I think Carrey goes through a wider range of emotions than Giamatti did in Sideways, but you get to see the development of Giamatti's character more physically as the movie went on. Both films had a similar ending as well, actually. I'd recommend it pretty strongly, and I wish Giamatti would get a lot more work similar to the past two movies I've seen him in, since I've liked what he's done so far.
