Vern Gagne Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 If ESPN could it would be an all Red Sox special. But other sports most be involved. Baseball-Something to do with Boston. Probably the 4 wins over New York. Football-Super Bowl is a lock, and should be number 1. College Football-since no Bowl games stood out. USC/Cal or Louisville/Miami. College Hoops-Oklahoma St/St.Joe's or Duke/UCONN.
Guest Vitamin X Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 You could fashion a list just from this past weekend's NFL games alone. Good God....
Kurt Angle Mark Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 The NBA representative will surely be Lakers/Spurs game 5 the 00.4 game
Vern Gagne Posted December 20, 2004 Author Report Posted December 20, 2004 Forgot about that game. Great Finish, not great game.
Kurt Angle Mark Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Forgot about that game. Great Finish, not great game. True However last year Miami/Ohio State for the BCS championship won game of the year and that was a crappy game with an incredible ending.
Red Baron Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 and ESPN will ignore hockey once again.
mike546 Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Julu 1st Yankees/Sox should be there.
Slayer Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 and ESPN will ignore hockey once again. Hockey doesn't exist
CanadianGuitarist Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Let's hope they don't ignore hockey, and post any game from the Canucks-Flames Western Conference quarters, Game 6 or 7 in particular. Can I count the final round of the Masters as a game?
KingPK Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Probably sometime next week (around New Years) They're definitely going to put ALCS games 4-5-6 on there, and maybe WS game 4, since that was the clincher. I'd also put NLCS game 5 on there, the greatest game barely anyone saw. Pats-Panthers is a given as well.
mike546 Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 The only ALCS games on it should be 4 and 5. Those were the only awesome games.
KingPK Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 6 had Schilling's performance, and ESPN eats that stuff up, so it will be on there.
Guest OSIcon Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Game 6 of the ALCS definitely shouldn't be on it. Top moments of the year? Fine. Same with a 'Top Performances of the Year' list or something like that. As a game it wasn't much. There should probably on be one game from the ALCS on there and Game 4 and 5 were MUCH better all around. Some of the good NLCS games might not find a way on which would be a shame.
mike546 Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 If your going to put on game six because of Schilling, HELL, why not 1 and 2 for Mo? Its pretty sad that nobody remembers he lost his grandson, and came back from the funeral to pitch the SAME day.
bob_barron Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Mo didn't lose his grandson. His wife lost some family- it's sad but I don't think he lost any blood relatives
Slovakia Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Can I count the final round of the Masters as a game? I dunno, can we count golf as a sport?
the max Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Honestly, I'm betting that the ALCS gets lumped into one slot on the list.
Guest PlatinumBoy Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Can I count the final round of the Masters as a game? I dunno, can we count golf as a sport? If anything, golfers are in better shape now than ever before. Plus, the final round of the Masters was one of the greatest sports moments of the year. Sorry to do the old hated cliche of "Wrestling analogy in a non wrestling folder", but Mickelson winning was like Benoit winning WM 20 for golf only bigger. Add in Vijay's amazing year, Ernie Els getting shafted at all the majors, a GREAT Match Play tourney at the beginning of the season with some good matchups (Love vs Mickelson, Love vs Tiger) and you have a good year of golf.

Golfers are definitely in better shape now than before. Look at Tiger when he won the Masters in 97, and look how much more muscular he is today. Find a close up shot, his loose shirts don't really highlight how muscular he really is. Check out Mickelson in 2002 and his enormous man boobs. He at least looks fit now. Well, Stadler's still fat, but he's on the Champions now, so he can at least have an excuse. Yes, The Masters is among the best sports moments of the year, top 10. You kind of have to be a golf fan to appreciate how big this was. Mickelson's performance made it easy to overlook the end of Arnie's era. The Benoit analogy is extremely accurate. A fine year of golf indeed, lots of comeback players, couple players to watch to return in 2005, great tournaments, Singh taking over, Els's shaft.......Best I've seen in some time.

One of my friends freaking got to go to the Masters. The idiot doesn't watch Arnie's last hole. He calls me the next day like "What was the big deal, just some old guy retiring!" I was dumbfounded. Also--look at Vijay. Guy works out HARDCORE in the weightroom and hits balls for like 4 hours a day. When people like you and I play golf we think "I can hit my 9 iron 150-175ish" for example. Guys like Singh and Mickelson know EXACTLY how far they can hit it with any given power. It's pretty amazing.

Guest Vitamin X Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Can I count the final round of the Masters as a game? I dunno, can we count golf as a sport? If we can count baseball as one...
Conspiracy_Victim Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 I'm going to be a homer and say NLCS game 5. Yes, the OTHER series. A tense pitching matchup involving a near rookie facing the spotlight (Brandon Backe), great defensive plays (Rolen's grab down the 3rd base line, Beltran's diving catch in center), and a Hollywood type ending with a 9th inning game winning homer. Tense and exciting baseball.
MrRant Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 I'd add in that shoot out between Manning and Favre but that's me.
KingPK Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 The special was on ESPN Classic tonight. Can't remember the whole order offhand, but the whole ALCS was #1 (the July 1st Yanks/Sox game was there as well), Mickelson's Masters win was #2, and the Superbowl was #3. Events I can't remember the ranking: Duke/Maryland ACC tourney final, Andy Roddick's nearly three hour loss in the Australian Open final (that was #10), UConn/Duke (where the UConn women's win streak was snapped), Lightning/Flames game 6, Pistons/Nets game 5, and Georgia/Purdue Capital One Bowl.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 ESPN always finds a way to get the UConn women's team on every single list they do.
CanadianGuitarist Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Not to generalise, but holy shit! Fucking Americans actually recognised hockey somewhat! Game 6 was pretty good, but there was lots of better hockey this year. Canada/US Prelim at the WC, for example. I'm not into college sports, for example, but I can appreciate talent in any sport when I see it....credit where credit is due. And this might sound like sour grapes, but I don't honestly think if the Flames had won it all that ESPN would have recognised it. Again, I don't mean to generalise, I could be preaching to the choir.
