Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Ubi Soft says Electronic Arts stake building is hostile Mon Dec 20, 2004 10:25 AM ET PARIS, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Ubi Soft Entertainment said on Monday it would consider U.S. firm Electronic Arts' stake building as "hostile", until it received further details from the company. "Pending further information, we consider this operation as hostle," an Ubi Soft spokesman told Reuters. "We think this operation is aimed at securing the studios of Ubi Soft that are ready to face the next generation of gaming consoles," he added. Electronic Arts said earlier on Monday it was buying about 19.9 percent of the French video game maker, fuelling speculation it might bid for the whole company. Electronic Arts, the world's No.1 video game publisher, is buying shares in Ubi Soft as a block from Talpa Beheer BV, the investment vehicle of Dutch media tycoon John de Mol. http://yahoo.reuters.com/financeQuoteCompa...ac003746_newsml EA: We're Just Getting Bigger, And Bigger, And Bigger... DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 EA expanding beyond sports games is a bad thing? Not necessarily, but EA is being slightly (possible understatement) monopolistic lately which tends to make people angry. Quick question: Does EA still have any stake in Square, or did that whole deal go away when we got Squenix?
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 EA expanding beyond sports games is a bad thing? Yes, because EA is notorious for treating their employees like shit. Quick question: Does EA still have any stake in Square, or did that whole deal go away when we got Squenix I don't think so. The largest amount of stock held by a major outside company I believe is Sony's 8% (after the Enix/Square merger).

El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 That's all we need. I hope the Clancy titles stay the way they are..because I don't want the watered down PS2 versions on my Xbox. The way Ubi develops them now is just fine..but if EA inhales 'em..

The way Ubi develops them now is just fine..but if EA inhales 'em.. Honestly, that's the least of your problem. SPLINTER CELL 4! NOW with licensed songs, including exclusive songs by Snoop Dogg and Linkin Park, reinterpreting classic songs that nobody thought needed changing! "Fisher, contact me on your cell phone. Just open up the large ever-present Cingular logo on the left side of your screen! If you want to, there's a mobile edition of 'The Sims' that you may want to play when you need to kill time. Full version available at your closest software retailer for $30. Headquarters out."

Scroby 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 That and since EA favors Sony, every game will be better on that system than any other system.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 That and since EA favors Sony, every game will be better on that system than any other system. That's my biggest problem with EA, as I've said elsewhere. They develop for both at the same time, so the games are optomized for the PS2, and the Xbox versions are identical. Ubi develops for Xbox/PC first, then scales it down for the PS2, which can't handle a lot of the effects, level size, etc that the Xbox can. (Not to mention that PS2's Splinter Cell was easier..) That's why I'm worried about this.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 That's okay, EPD. This won't be a problem when EA decides that they're big enough to launch their own console and go 100% exclusive to it. Ports? What ports?

Especially since it's nowhere near realitistic, with the incredible amount of static and dropped calls a Cingular phone would typically have.

Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 EA expanding beyond sports games is a bad thing? have you ever played them? last good one I can remember is General Chaos on Sega. Now if they remade that, I might be on board. General Chaos is great, but you won't see an update, because that would mean E.A. made a game that people would want to try more than once. I blame the idiots who just kept buying the successive same 4 sports-franchise- expansion-packs-masquerading-as-games every year. That allowed E.A. to become the hungry ogre they are today. I used to be one of those kids in the 16 bit days, though.
