1234-5678 Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Everytime I try to open a folder on my desktop, the computer screen goes blank. It'll come back with other things I was doing, internet explorer, IMs, but no open folder. Any idea what might be causing this or how I could fix it?
MrRant Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 What happens when you right click on it and hit EXPLORE? How long has it been happening?
1234-5678 Posted December 20, 2004 Author Report Posted December 20, 2004 Right click and explore, it does the same thing. It'll look like it is going to open for a second, but, no, screen goes blank for a few seconds, then internet explorer and AIM will come back. I've noticed it for a couple of days now. I've also now noticed I cannot open up "My Computer" or my Control Panel. It seems any type of folder will not open at all, but applications, such as AIM, Smart Explorer, or audio files open without a problem.
1234-5678 Posted December 21, 2004 Author Report Posted December 21, 2004 Norton tells me there is no virus.
1234-5678 Posted December 21, 2004 Author Report Posted December 21, 2004 Does anyone have a solution? Cause this is fucking aggravating as hell.
Jobber of the Week Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Have you updated Norton lately? That part is always important. Otherwise, it sounds like some kind of malware. Probably a drive-by install since you're probably smart enough to not install crazy 3rd party toolbars and extensions.
1234-5678 Posted December 21, 2004 Author Report Posted December 21, 2004 The programs in the folders run, if I just use the "Run" feature, but the folders still do not open, if that helps.
bobobrazil1984 Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 My dad's laptop had a problem like this... it happened after he installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 or whatever the fuck its called (from the windows update automatic thing). All sorts of stuff like that was fucked up. It returned to normal after I uninstalled the service pack from add/remove programs in control panel.
