Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Prince's Sign 'o' the Times concert was playing on Showtime in the background as we feasted on our Christmas Eve dinner. Hilarity ensued when "If I Was Your Girlfriend" played during my father's pre-meal 'grace'.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I watched Shaun of the Dead earlier, which was dull, and some of the Arrested Development season 1 DVD, which was very much not dull. Still waiting to get drunk.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I bought some mistletoe so that should make the party I'm attending tonight a little bit more exciting.

Guest SP-1 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I watched Shaun of the Dead earlier, which was dull, and some of the Arrested Development season 1 DVD, which was very much not dull. Still waiting to get drunk. I thought Shaun was going to be pretty average but I actually found it to be pretty funny for some reason.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 As with every holiday, I got to hang out with my dad's latently racist cousins. After a black player returned a fumble for a touchdown in one of today's football games: "I bet now he wants to put some white devils in a boiling pot to celebrate!" At dinner: "Do the blacks at your school graduate?" Too many people in my family also really like Christmas music and talk about the Apprentice and American Idol. It's awful. My family is America's target demographic.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I went to my dad's family. Me and Girlfriend sat there and small talked to other cousins in our bracket. Got the cards and collected about 700 bucks and went home. Was behind an uncle, his tire went flat. I got out and helped put his spare on. Got home. She's asleep now and we'll get up about 9 for my intermeditate family.

Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 My entire family is asleep, but I've been drinking a very gaseous and disgusting off-brand Dr. Pepper knock off all day, and am thus too loaded with caffiene to sleep any time soon. So I am going to sit here at my computer and eat an entire box of Krispy Kreme donuts until I'm sick and sluggish enough to pass out. Merry Christmas. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 You people who get cash from relatives are lucky. I don't get shit. We always do a gift exchange/ party thing at my aunt's on Christmas Eve. This year was awkward since my one aunt's ex showed up since he's taking her son back to Chicago with him tomorrow. He brought one of his co-workers with him, which was odd as hell, since they're both married. I can only imagine what he thought of our whacky family. Keeping with tradition, few of the gifts were serious. I was the recipient of a pair of god-awful CDs from Big Lots (something along the lines of motivational music and dance songs for the new millennium) and some sort of canned meat. We did one of those things where we put the serious gifts on the floor and drew numbers and grabbed a gift from the pile. I wound up trading for the massaging slippers I brought for the exchange. P.S. I'm highly disappointed with them. My brother also gave me some t-shirts, including a Simpsons one that he doesn't remember buying, nor does my mom. Dummies. He also got me some TMNT game for PS2, which makes me wonder what sort of drugs he's taking these days.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I didn't get loaded tonight. Quite unfortunate, but it was of ym own volition. I consumed far too much sugar, and because of it tonight, I think I may have diabetes.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I just got back from my night out; earlier in the day, I promised my mother I'd be at her house at 10am. A decision I now regret. But this place I went to was having an 80s night, wherein they played Echo and the Bunnymen's "The Killing Moon," so it was worth it, really.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I endured an incredibly boring but fairly wealthy aunt and uncle last night, as well as my parents and younger brother for the better part of four hours without a cigarette. I got a fifty dollar best buy gift card, some free movie passes to the theater he owns, and a couple free dinners at this decent local chinese buffet. I got them steaks, but she can't cook worth a damn and neither does he, which is why all they ever fucking talk about is restaurants where they eat. Mom outdid herself as usual with the meal, and I've got a gallon-sized ziploc bag of cookies. Oh shit yes.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I don't expect yanks to get Shaun of the Dead fully, but watch it again, and you'll see stuff you missed. Very well made film.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I don't know what I missed; I caught the Stone Roses gag in the scene where they're throwing records at the zombies, after all. Anyway, the suspense was handled well, but the characters were just so achingly boring.
Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I got a ton of cds and dvds and gift cards and clothes. It was a very good Christmas. Edit: and Ulysses. Now, if I ever get a chance to read it is another story.

Anyway, the suspense was handled well, but the characters were just so achingly boring. Well, Britain is fairly dull. That's part of the idea, I only noticed about the fourth time I watched how much background noise (sirens, army trucks etc) was going on with the main characters completely oblivious and preoccupied with their relationship crises etc. Honestly, you will have missed stuff, the record throwing sequence isn't really that obscure. Golgo 13 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I didn't do anything last night, although my brother and his girlfriend did get into an amusing fight. Today is when the real festivities are since the entire family is coming by, meaning I'll stick close to my room and avoid them as much as I can.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 The comment about the record sequence was sarcasm. As for the rest, I've seen enough British movies to where nothing in Shaun was lost on me (a Yank); the movie wasn't that obscure.
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Merry Christmas, everyone. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I got a fifty dollar best buy gift card, some free movie passes to the theater he owns... Wow, that was thoughtful. Better half's at church and I'm typing on a message board. We'll be going to my future brother/step-sister in-law's place at 5 for family fun, which will consist mostly of laughing at my future crackhead sister in-law as she lays wasted on the couch... PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 hehehe looks like i'm getting a swish suit from my mother (who is damn good at buying me clothes, bizarrely enough) the damned album from my kid brother is much appreciated, not opened the rest. The turkey looks fucking awesome, I'm not above killing my family, sticking it on a skewer and eating it like a lollipop for the next day or so.

I think that's one of the best things ever, and am curious to gauge a Yank reaction to it.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I actually got my major Xmas gift (new laptop) last week, as it was a combination birthday/Christmas gift. We do Christmas Eve at my grandmother's, and I got the expected lot of cards full of money. This morning in addition to the laptop I got clothes from my parents, and Dodgeball from my sister, though I've already got it and will exchange it for something else tomorrow. Dinner and dessert is at my house, so I'm going to have both sides of the family here all day. Joyous.
