They only come around when the Steelers are winning too. Otherwise they hide in their apartments crying into their terrible towels remembering days gone by. I think your statement applies more towards Eagles fans than anything. Except they've never won a Super Bowl, only a couple NFL Championships that predate the Super Bowl era. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 3, 2005 Also decided my wildcard/playoff thoughts would be more appropriate in this thread: Â If Pittsburgh's BACKUPS can beat a surging Buffalo squad that easily, I'm starting to wonder if anyone can rise up and beat them. They do everything exactly how a Super Bowl champion is supposed to: They defend well against the run, don't commit idiotic turnovers or penalties, and the offensive line plays extremely well, allowing the offense to take their time and do what they need to do. They're also blitzing the shit out of the quarterback (Blitzburgh!) without giving up much on the ground. Â I think the NFC is totally up for grabs, and I believe the only teams that have a fair chance of beating Pittsburgh out of the NFC are the Falcons and maybe the Packers, considering that now without TO, Green Bay probably has the best offense from the conference (aside from the underachieving Vikings and Rams). The question is if they'd be able to stop Bettis/Staley and the trio of receivers. Â Pittsburgh has the complete package right now in the AFC, but the Patriots know how to win in any circumstance, the Colts' defense is, scarily enough, playing well enough to let their offense rest easy, and I'm not so sure about the Jets' or Broncos' chances, since both haven't done well when their season is on the line (like today for example, or quite a few weeks in Denver's case). The Chargers may be the most complete team in the AFC right now outside of Pittsburgh, and they deserve a lot of credit for what they've done, and it might even take them to the Championship game, where their lack of a true big-play receiver (sorry McCardell doesn't count, and Gates plays tight end) will keep them from the big game, as Eagles fans have come to know now for 3, possibly going on 4 years in a row. Â In the NFC, it's hard envisioning the Seahawks or Rams doing much of anything, though I'd been wondering what the hell is the difference between last year's Rams squad that earned one of the top two seeds in the conference and was looking very good, and this year's mediocre team? The Hawks don't have it quite together, but they're good enough to beat the Rams even if they haven't done it this season. That may be a reason why they'd fail though. I think the Packers' chances go as far as Ahman Green's legs will take them, since that'll control the ball and not let the other team have much of a chance with the passing game, and that'll help. Philadelphia's become too reliant on TO, but we don't know yet how much he means, since he was injured before they started sending out their JV squads the last two weeks, though the comments raised in the TO thread made some interesting points about how long their offense can sustain drives without him, and thus putting pressure on their defense to step up as well, obviously something they haven't had to be concerned with as much. I believe the winner of the Seahawks/Rams game goes to Philly afterwards, so that should be interesting to see how the Eagles perform with all that rust. And I think this year's Falcons are like the 2001 Bears, but with added RIDICULOUS MICHAEL VICK HYPE~! Jim Mora's a hell of a coach, I loved the move he made making everyone play this week after throwing away last week's game. He's going to keep their heads in the game, but the passing game will have to show up for them. The Vikings are serious underachievers, it could be argued they should have won the Super Bowl with Moss a LONG time ago, but won't as long as Tice is still coaching. Let's see if maybe Minnesota's chances won't rely solely on Tice's coaching ability, because everytime it does, the Vikings don't stand a chance, no matter who they're up against. San Diego is clearly a better team than the Jets are at this point, and the Colts beat the Broncos by over 30 points last year when the Colts were worse and the Broncos better. Denver is dead this week. Last time I remember this happening was back in 2000 when the Rams won at New Orleans in Week 17 to back into the playoffs thanks to Detroit losing to the last place Bears and then getting beat at New Orleans against the Saints A-Team the next week. Same thing here although it won't be as close. Â In the NFC we have two divisional matchups in which one team won both. Of those, the North matchup is easier to predict given the way Minnesota has been playing lately and they are a dome team going outdoors. The Packers lead by a field goal at halftime, when Moss declares that the game is over and decides to get an early flight home. It might be closer than some people think, but Minnesota is too sloppy to handle Packers running game over the long haul outdoors at Lambeau. Â Seahawks/Rams could go either way, but both teams are so inconsistant I can't see either of them winning 3 straight over anybody, possibly even San Fran. That and the fact that the Rams stink outdoors after the Canadian Thanksgiving, has me picking Holmgren. Â Colts, Chargers, Packers & Seahawks are advancing. Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 It's kind of funny how little respect the Steelers are getting for being a 15-1 team, especially when they've beaten the two best teams in the league back to back, have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, and they have a quarterback who just wins. Hopefully no moron brings up the example of the Vikes as a team that was 15-1 and lost, poor analogy in my opinion. No need to delve into that one. But yeah, why are they getting no respect? Most dominant team in the league, essentially perfect since they lost in Week Two with a vastly inferior QB, and they're just clicking on all cylinders right now. Â With all that said, I still can't bet against the Patriots until they actually lose, even without Ty Law. I hope they lose to the Colts next week though, I'd be happy for Peyton at the very least, since it's stupid that people are all like "OMG HE CANT BEAT NEW ENGLAND IN NEW ENGLAND THIS IS THE HUMP HE MUST GET OVER~!!!~!!!" when he's played them ONCE in the playoffs.
