Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 3, 2005 Matt Cava(however the rest of it is spelled); the Offensive Cooridinator for the Ravens was given the boot moments ago. Brian Billick may be on the hot seat too.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2005 Good move, IMO. They need to upgrade Fassel to official offensive coordinator.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2005 (edited) Well, that's good news for Ravens fans. Maybe now they can work a decent offence that features more than Jamal Lewis and Todd Heap... Edited January 3, 2005 by starvenger
Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2005 FUCK YES!!!! HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN OUT BEHIND THE STADIUM AND SHOT THREE YEARS AGO! Ahem. And no, I don't think Billick is on the hot seat. Cavanaugh, though, BADLY needed to go. I've never seen one person call so many 4-yard outs on 3rd-and-9 in my life.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted January 3, 2005 Billick won't be fired. He's too good of a coach. Maybe the Ravens should try to get a real QB? Not some hack who isn't even CFL worthy.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted January 3, 2005 I know this may not really pertain to coaches being fired, but what was the deal with the Ravens being a divided team right now?
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 3, 2005 And no, I don't think Billick is on the hot seat. I was just repeating what they said on the NFL Monday Quarterback edition of ESPNEWS. I doubt he'll be fired too. Billick won't be fired. He's too good of a coach. Maybe the Ravens should try to get a real QB? Not some hack who isn't even CFL worthy. I think he would do fairly well if he had an actual WR or two. I think they'll give him next year and then evaluate from there. He was a first round pick for them, so they can't just abandon him without saying "Ok, we fucked up".

He's no worse than Trent Dilfer, who led them to the Super Bowl.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2005 I know this may not really pertain to coaches being fired, but what was the deal with the Ravens being a divided team right now? The defense probably hates the offense for fucking up their chances at going to the playoffs.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 3, 2005 I think the Ravens draft a WR in the first round. They'll probably grab Clayton unless Edwards somehow falls to their spot.
Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2005 I'd love to see the Ravens draft Edwards, even if they have to trade up to get him. I've also heard speculation that they'll pursue Plaxico Burress in free agency. That would be quite fine with me, too. Both those chaps are tall receivers, and that's where my bias is, since 6'3+ receivers tend to create mismatches against 5'9 DBs. Boller showed some signs of growth this year. Remember that he missed half of last year with an injury, so it wasn't until th emidway point of this season that he'd actually gotten a full year in. He's improving. The problems he has are: 1. Lack of quality receivers. The Ravens' best receiver is Todd Heap, and he's a TE (and a damn good one). 2. The offensive line run blocks better than it pass blocks. 3. Shitty playcalling. I'm hoping the draft and free agency will address (1). A new offensive coordinator (Fassel, I hope) should address (3). Some new personnel on the offensive line, perhaps a new coach, might help with (2).
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2005 Why is Billick a good coach? Because the Ravens won the Super Bowl with their defense. Coached by Marvin Lewis, Billick was the so called offensive genius and funny the Ravens offense has been below average his entire stint in Baltimore. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2005 Id like to see the Ravens trade up and get Mike Williams (if he's eligible for the draft this year) since he's probably the best WR in the draft even though he hasn't played in a year. And Cavanaugh had to go so thats good news.

Cause more times than not he gets the most out of teams no matter what the talent level is. Screw the Super Bowl year, remember two years ago when the Ravens werent supposed to win 4 games and have the No.1 pick in the draft? Well they almost made the playoffs cause they draft really well and b) Billick got the most out of a VERY young team. Also, while I love ripping on Trent Dilfer as much as the next guy (and being a Buc fan that SB almost made me quit the NFL) do you think they would have gone anywhere had Billick not pulled Tony Banks? I think not. I dont care how good that Defense was, Tony Banks would have continued to find ways to lose. Dont get me wrong his QB choices have been suspect to say the least but to say Brian Billick isnt a good coach is absurd.

Mike Williams is available this year. He and Edwards are going to be the best two WRs in the draft. This year is a deep draft when it comes to secondary and O-Line. If you need a good WR you really have to get him early.

It was an obvious choice. As for two years ago, much less pressure with a young team. Where the players are more willing to listen to the coach, and work harder. Where the players are more willing to listen to the coach, and work harder. Here's a comparison for you: Gregg Williams in Buffalo 2001 vs. Billick in Baltimore 2002 both very young teams w/ suspect QB's one goes 3-13 while the other goes 7-9 tell me coaching isnt a factor there. One team listened to their coach and damn near made the playoffs the other fell squarely on their ass. Also dont underestimate him pulling Tony Banks either sure it was an obvious move from a fans perspective but very few coaches (even good ones) have the balls to pull a starting QB with a winning record (Banks was 5-3 as a starter) no matter how bad he's playing.
