Special K 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 I never really believed wrestling was real (the Undertaker v 20 or so match at RR convinced me of that) but what worked angle made you buy it? I have 2. HBK collapsing after the owenzuigiri. Looking back on it the sell is kind of corny, but the announcers 'owen' reaction had me sold believing Shawn was fucked. Bret v Diesel whatever, I was a huge Bret fan, and when he collapsed after being set up for the powerbomb, I thought he was fucked up pretty bad. as pretty brutal matches go, he rivalled Shawn in pain in this one. Mike Awesome v Spike Dudley: I don't know the date of this ECW PPV, but honestly, I thought Spike was going to die, every move.He was fucking brutalized, and I liked Spike. He took a shit-kicking maybe unlike I have ever seen.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 I'm so cynical I never believe it even when it is real.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Mike Awesome vs Spike Dudley are some of the most brutal matches ever. And not just the PPV ones either. I remember once he awesome-bombed Spike three times in a row. By the end, he was literally pulling Spike up by himself; Spike was limp as hell. Such sickness. I too bought the concussion thing for a while, because they never really did an injury angle like that before (that I had seen) so I couldn't imagine that it was anything but legit. CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Speaking of LSD, anyone remember Massacre on 34th Street vs. Rhino? Rhino won with a pretty sick looking chokeout.
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 5, 2005 If you want to see brutal, try watching Stan Hansen trying not to kill someone with his lariat.
MikeJordan23 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Taz vs. Tajiri at HeatWave (I believe) when he went to get the barbwire and the camera man wouldn't show the action close. For a second I thought Taz was going a little outta the script.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Mick Foley, in his first book, attributes the brutality of Hansen's lariat to two things: Making the move look good by violent force Inability to see what the hell he's doing, as he doesn't wear his glasses in the ring. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I've seen that lariat look like crap from time to time.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 The only match that I've watched in recent history where it really fealt like things were going to break loose at any time (whether it be between the wrestlers or with the crowd even) was the AJ Styles vs. Kid Kash X division street fight. There had been months of "real" heat between them...so from Kash getting into it with a fan before the match...until it ended...it just fealt like things were heading out of control. Oh, I was just crediting him as being blind as a bat in the ring.
