Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I'm a pretty big STP fan. Having "Core", "Purple" and "NO. 4". I just got "Thank You" for my birthday from my father. Is there any point in picking up "Tiny Music" or "Shangra La Dee Da"? I always avoided them because I heard they weren't that good. But I liked the stuff I heard on "Thank You" from those two release "Big Bang Baby, Days of the Week, and one that escapes me, but its something about a dancing girl". Should I grab them, or do I have all the good stuff?
Guest ian. Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Tiny Music is probably their best album, actually. It sounds more together, and it's just great. You should pick it up. Can't speak for Shangra, though....haven't heard it.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Tiny Music...Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop is a good album. Alot of people were turned off by it simply because Weiland changes his vocal style. I think it's a fucking great album with some great tracks, like "Lady Picture Show", "Big Bang Baby", "Another Pop Suicide" and "Art School Girl."
Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I'd also have to agree with the previous two posters. Tiny Music was certainly an underrated album by them. I was initially weary when I saw the Big Bang Baby video, but after buying the album, it became a favourite of mine. I definitely recommend it. I wouldn't suggest Shangri La though. To its credit, I did like it for about a week, but I became bored with it quickly. It just seemed lacking to me, and was not up to their previous efforts. It was a major disappointment, IMO. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Agreed on the Tiny Music love, though you can tell that was the point where Weiland was deep in his drug addictions...but it's OK, it made for fun music...Tripping On A Hole In A Paper Heart is another good single from there that got decent radio play back in it's day... TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I like Shangri-La Dee Da myself. It's a mature, mostly sober STP playing really good music. It's not great, though, as a lot of the "edge" that they had early on has kind of worn off.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 I'm a huge Stone Temple Pilots fan, but Tiny Music From the Vatican Gift Shop was a TERRIBLE album. Probably one of the worst albums from a "big name" rock band in the last ten years. Outside of "Trippin' On A Hole in a Paper Heart", every song on that album is either a complete rip-off ("Big Bang Baby", meet "Jumping Jack Flash") or a sad distillation of their older music ("Lady Picture Show"). I'm not even touching Shangri-La Dee Da. Core is pretty good and there are a couple of nice tracks on No. 4, but the real quality is on Purple, incidentally. "Lounge Fly", "Vasoline", "Interstate Love Song"...even "Pretty Penny" steals some good Beatles stuff.

Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Upon extensive listening of "Thank You". My only complains regarding ommited songs are "Heaven and Hotrods" and "Sex and Violence" from No. 4, as well as "Crackerman" from Core. The lone inclusion from Shangra "Days of the week" doesn't impress me. I do like "Big Bang Baby" and "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart", but "Lady Picture Show" doesn't sit well with me. So I'm still up in the air on whether I should buy "Tiny Music.....Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop"
