Meltzer on Batista

Recommended Posts

I got it from the way I interpreted your post. You dont have to spell anything out for me. I cant see a Batista reign lasting either, but in the longer run it does open up programme possibilites.

But anyone "new" in that position opens up "programme possibilities", but would it work? Would it draw? would it be good?

I meant it as that they have been good to each others careers.

Benoit has been good for Batista, Batista hasn't been good for Benoit.

By putting the crossface over as he did. Even JR did a good job that time. By putting him over maybe?

Batista at that time was nothing. He and Flair were Evolutions job guys. Benoit had tapped out Brock Lesnar at the time, he didn't need anything from Batista, and there was nothing Batista could offer.

Yes I do. When has there ever been a decent $$$-off recently in the WWE?

It certainly wasn't with Jericho-Trish. That storyline peaked at WMXX, and it certainly wasn't drawing the numbers that that show did and didn't really have that good of a resolution (there was a resolution?). Jericho/Christians "pay-off", from their 6 monthish feud, was that cage match was a RAW. Yippee.

I mean it as he doesnt get the title till Bad Blood.

So there's like 6 more months of this crap? Can't sustain it. The kind of overness Batista has doesn't last long.

I was referring to the fact that I prefer Batistas character to Diesels and his ring work. Of course, the ideal is work and drawing, then work and overness. But who has achieved the ideal recently?

There were many people at the time who liked Diesels character and ring work, also. I'm seeing very similar things between the two. Why do you keep asking "who has done this recently?"

Some good stuff here. They have done a good job with the Elimination Chamber match as it's the first time in a long time where people aren't up in arms about Trips regaining the title because he might not.

Another scenario where this can lead is either putting the strap on Edge whom I hate or give it to Orton(whom is testing my damn nerves). Now hear me out. I think the boyhood dream idea being played again for Mania is a good idea. HBK heading in as champion defending against Edge has some oomph. It won't be any big seller, but it will help Edge and hopefully HBK will be in his making a star mode and crown Edge the champion at Mania. I mean a reversal where Edge gets his boyhood dream of winning the title at Mania(and they have the footage from WM 6) with fans throwing things at him would be hilarious and doing so against HBK who did it at WM 12 is a great story. Hell, they could even throw in a ladder and play off that WM history. They could also have HBK face off against Orton at the Rumble and win the title from interference from HHH which will increase the Orton/HHH heat hopefully since HBK is a hated foe of HHH, yet he still rather HBK be the champ than Orton. They could have Edge win the EC and go on to Mania to defend the title against HBK. I think leaving the title out of the Orton/HHH/Batista stuff will be better as all men cost each other the championship. However, we got the rumours of Orton going to smackdown as world champion and Cena coming to raw as wwe champion. If this is true how else can they build to this without having HHH regain the title with Orton taking it away from him? The question mark is the free tv match though where Orton went over Triple H. I think if it was Orton/HHH at Mania with Orton finally regaining the title it would have HHH winning on monday. They already gave away the babyface ending which is why I'm leaning towards Edge/HBK. Batista can't win the title because where would that go? Batista jobbing to Triple H at Mania? The possible reason why they want Orton switching to smackdown is to have him reign without any interruption from Trips. Things would be so much easier if Trips had the same kind of influence he did in like 1997 and 1998.

Someone asked the question about Cena and Orton both winning titles at Mania and I think if the plan truly is for them to switch we might see Orton win the title on Sunday and they will have Cena crowned champion at Mania. I swear they are going to ruin Cena if that's the plan. You know the job would be coming. He will just be Benoit 2005, but this time he won't get away like Benoit did from the jobbing in 2004. Then again, when Batista turns if he turns what will happen to Trips' character? He will get new members for Evo?

Before Edge wins the title, I think he needs to change his finisher. The spear doesn't look like it would particularly knock a guy out for the three count. That DDT thing he use to do would be better.

As it goes for a Batista/HHH blowoff at WM... The Would Title is not needed for this fued. Nothing that Batista has done in his recent vingettes has shown any desire to be champ. He just wants to show HHH what kind of a man he is. Its purely personal.

For Edge, Randy and Benoit to be in a significant fued in 3 months, the would title should involve. (Edge can get away with a HBK blowoff, but I see that for Royal Rumble). I would forsee at least one and probably 2 of these three to be involve in the World Title Match, purely because there has been a lot of guys built as legit Title contenders (finally)

I'm hoping he uses the Edgucator (the submission move) more often. The spear should be a signiture move. It's good for a near fall. Make it like Jericho's Lionsault.

I've pretty much pulled this idea out of left feild, but it's what I would like to see happen to Batista in the near future.

At the moment Batista is HOT and is on the brink of facedom. However, Raw has an excess of faces and no real heels, so a title win and a face turn would probably be the wrong move as he doesn't really have any challengers.

It would also be a bad move because Batista is to big and dominating to play the underdog against HHH and anyone going for his title. He won't be able to play the "Against all odds" guy because he wouldn't fit that mold at all.

My idea for him is to win the title belt in the Elimination chamber and then feud with the only logical challenger HHH. After defeating HHH, Batista would look far too strong to be the underdog, but with Orton, HHH, Benoit, Edge, Michaels and Jericho all fighting for his title he could become insecure about it, especially after being a member of Evolution for so long and seeing how obsessed and underhanded people can be about getting to the title.

At this time, Bichoff will show increasing frustration in not being in control of Raw and Raw's direction. He begins to whisper into Batista's ear how dangerous things are for him and his title until Batista is completely insecure (in an angry Batista way). Batista will then become the instrument through which Bischoff controls Raw, as with the champion on his side he can push things in the direction he wants too. In return Bichoff will protect Batista from the challengers (Such as making all of his matches 1vs1 (no more of the 3 way champion at a dissadvantage bullshit). But it would be subtle, more of an evening the odds or a slight tilt rather than a Stacking the odds up against the faces.

Their relationship wouldn't be a managerial one, but more like a symbiosis, where both are powerhungry and align with eachother to maintain and increase their power.

This would keep Batista a heel, maintaining his buisness like aproach to wrestling as well as his monster status, and allow Benjamin, Benoit, Jericho, Orton and whoever to be the underdog faces.

HHH and Edge could allign as they're both wanting the title and need to beat the above faces to get to it. HHH could play the role of Batista's disgruntled mentor turned envyous of Batistas new found power.

As I said, it comes out of left field, but I think it would do nothing but increase Batista's credibility as a Main eventer, and also give the others someone to chase.

Got to play the odds croweater. They turned Orton and should have kept him as a hot tweener, but instead turned him into some shitty babyface.

More than likely they will turn Batista into some shitty babyface instead of a hot tweener taking on anything in his way. Playing by his rules. Drinking protein shakes and working out at the gym, then wearing snazzy suits at night banging chicks by the fistful.

I know this isn't entirely about Batista, but I do think he'll win the title at NYR.

Why else would they 'strip' HHH of the title? For him to just win it back again would be dumb as hell as their would be no point to strip him of the belt in the first place. My only thought is that this was the only way they could possibly get the belt on Batista right now and have it make sense. HHH/Batista couldn't happen in a straight up match as that'd ruin the big 'wait' to finally see Dave whoop up on HHH.

That and maybe HHH refused to lay down for Batista so they did it this way so he wouldn't have to.

Your right, WWE would screw it up :(

Benoit has been good for Batista, Batista hasn't been good for Benoit.

Has the WWE ever been good to Benoit. IMO Benoit has got more from Batista, then he has UT or Austin for example.

Batista at that time was nothing. He and Flair were Evolutions job guys. Benoit had tapped out Brock Lesnar at the time, he didn't need anything from Batista, and there was nothing Batista could offer.

He was being portrayed as a monster then, not to the level he is now, but still a monster.

Ok, Ok. I personally liked the Jericho-Trish angle. :(

So there's like 6 more months of this crap? Can't sustain it. The kind of overness Batista has doesn't last long.

He faces HHH WM non-title, wins. Faces somebody else at Backlash, wins. Gets the title at Bad Blood.

There were many people at the time who liked Diesels character and ring work, also. I'm seeing very similar things between the two. Why do you keep asking "who has done this recently?"

Who is over, draws and works? I think you have to go back to 1997 to answer that question.

RRR, you are obviously more knowledgable about wrestling than I am. Everybody knows that here. I was just giving my opinion.

Also it amazes me how many people can't see Michaels turning in the EC match.

What purpose does it serve?

If anything, I can only see HBK doing the same tired old 'reluctant' three-count he did at Summerslam '97. Who would he face as a heel ? It also prevents the obvious Edge-Shawn Michaels matchup.
